Foix station

The Church of Saint-Volusien is an abbatial church in Foix, Ariège in southwestern France. It already existed in the 12th century and was re-built and renovated several times.

The canton of Foix is an administrative division of the Ariège department, southern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Foix ( fwah, French pronunciation: [fwa] ; Occitan: Fois [ˈfujs, ˈfujʃ]; Catalan: Foix [ˈfoʃ]) is a commune, the former capital of the County of Foix. It is the capital of the department of Ariège as it is the seat of the prefecture of that department. Foix is located in the Occitanie region of southwestern France. It is the second least populous French departmental capital, the least populous being Privas. Foix lies south of Toulouse, close to the borders with Spain and Andorra. It is only the second biggest town in Ariège, the biggest being Pamiers, which is one of the two sub-prefectures, the other being St Girons. Foix is twinned with the English cathedral city of Ripon, with the Spanish towns of Sarroca de Lleida, Lleida and the Andorran capital Andorra la Vella.

Les Épines de Lespinet (2500 m2) is a private botanical garden specializing in cactus and succulents. It is located at 38, Les Hauts de Lespinet, Foix, Ariège, Midi-Pyrénées, France, and open by guided tours; an admission fee is charged. The garden is intended to recreate a semi-desert American landscape amid banana, citrus, and Mediterranean vegetation. It contains nearly 400 taxa of cacti and succulents, primarily Agave, Opuntia, and Yucca, as well as Nolina and a collection of palm trees from temperate and subtropical regions.

The Château de Foix (Languedocien: Castèl de Fois) is a castle which dominates the town of Foix in the French département of Ariège. An important tourist site, it is known as a centre of the Cathars. It has been listed since 1840 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

The arrondissement of Foix is an arrondissement of France in the Ariège department in the Occitania region. It has 115 communes. Its population is 47,572 (2016), and its area is 1,818.5 km2 (702.1 sq mi).

The Foix Tunnel is a tunnel located in Foix in the French department of Ariège on the RN20. Construction began in March 1996 and the tunnel opened on 30 October 2004. It has one tube with a length of 2,159 m.

Communauté d'agglomération Pays Foix-Varilhes is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the town of Foix. It is located in the Ariège department, in the Occitania region, southern France. Created in 2017, its seat is in Foix. Its area is 443.8 km2. Its population was 31,947 in 2019, of which 9,493 in Foix proper.
