Bournemouth University is a public university in Bournemouth, England, with its main campus situated in neighbouring Poole. The university was founded in 1992; however, the origins of its predecessor date back to the early 1900s. The university currently has over 16,000 students, including over 3,000 international students. The university is recognised for its work in the media industries. Graduates from the university have worked on a number of Hollywood films, including Gravity, which was awarded the Achievement in Visual Effects Oscar at the 86th Academy Awards in 2015.In 2023, Bournemouth University received a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, a government assessment of the quality of undergraduate teaching in universities and other higher education providers in England.

Talbot Village is located on the boundary of Bournemouth and Poole in Dorset, England. The old Talbot Village was built between 1850 and 1862 because of the generosity of two sisters, Georgina and Mary Talbot. Georgina and Mary divided their year between Surrey and Hinton Wood House on the East Cliff of Bournemouth with their family and it was while living in Bournemouth that the sisters discovered the many poor who were suffering in the region. Between them, they sought to employ the poor to clear the land to build cottages — these were completed between 1850 and 1862. The workers were allowed to stay in the cottages and slowly, Talbot Village began to develop. The original cottages were built on an acre plot and each had a well, animal pens and fruit trees. The residents were charged a rent of between 4 and 5 shillings per week. Georgina Talbot then had 7 almshouses built for the elderly and widowed. The school was built for the village in 1862 and held 68 children. It has since been extended over the years and in 1992 an extension increased the school's capacity to 420 children.

Glenmoor Academy is a secondary school for girls located in the Ensbury Park area of Bournemouth in the English county of Dorset.The school was first established in 1877 as Winton British School, educating boys and girls up to age of 13. In 1911 the school relocated to a site on Coronation Avenue which was split into Winton School (boys) and Moordown School (girls). Following a major reorganisation of schools in the area in 1957, The secondary section of Moordown School relocated to the current site on Beswick Avenue and was renamed Glenmoor School. In 1995 Winton School relocated to a site on next door to Glenmoor School on Winton Way. Winton School is now known as Winton Academy. Previously administered by Bournemouth Borough Council, Glenmoor School converted to academy status on 1 September 2013 and was renamed Glenmoor Academy. The school is now part of the United Learning trust which also includes Winton Academy.

Bournemouth Football Club ( BORN-məth) is an English football team currently playing in the Wessex League Premier Division, in the ninth tier of the English football league system. Their nickname is "The Poppies", and they are often known as Bournemouth Poppies to avoid confusion with the Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. The West Hants Club (often known simply as West Hants) is a sports and fitness club situated in Bournemouth, Dorset in the south of England. The club is primarily a tennis club but also incorporates a gym, swimming pool and squash and racquetball courts. West Hants was opened in 1926 and two years later the club began hosting the British Hard Court Championships, an event that was held there for 55 years until 1983. The 1968 British Hard Court Championships was the first 'open' tournament of the so-called Open Era, where both professionals and amateurs could compete.Between 1996 and 2000, the Bournemouth International men's singles and doubles events were played at the club.
