Saint Alkmund's Way Footbridge

St Mary's Church is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Derby, England. A Grade II* listed building, it stands on Bridge Gate overlooking St Alkmund's Way. The church was designed by architect A. W. N. Pugin and according to Simon Jenkins, it is one of Pugin's "few complete works".

Saint Alkmund's Church was a Victorian church, which stood in a Georgian square between Bridgegate and Queen Street in Derby; this was the only Georgian square in the city. The church and its yard were demolished in 1968 for construction of a road to improve traffic flow. Churches dedicated to Saint Alkmund had been constructed on this site since the 9th century. Artefacts recovered from this site include a stone sarcophagus and remains of a 4-metre (13 ft) tall stone cross, both now held at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery. The building was replaced with a modern church on Kedleston Road, St Alkmund’s (new) Church, Derby.

The Cathedral Quarter is one of five areas within Derby city centre, based around the name of the Cathedral. It is bound by St Alkmund's Way and Ford Street to the north and west, the River Derwent to the east, and Albert Street, Victoria Street, Wardwick and Friargate to the south. It is a shopping, business, retail and cultural quarter, containing many key arts and tourist venues. These include Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Derby Central Library, Derby Local Studies Library, The Silk Mill, Déda, The QUAD, The Assembly Rooms, The Guildhall, Derby Tourist Information centre and, of course, Derby Cathedral. The Silk Mill is at the start of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site, marking the city's important role in the birth of the Industrial Revolution. Many outdoor events take place within The Cathedral Quarter, mostly centred on The Market Place or Cathedral Green.

Ye Olde Dolphin Inne is a Grade II listed pub, on Queen Street, in the city of Derby, England.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the late 16th century, with the licence said to date from 1580, and is the oldest pub in Derby. The timber-framed exterior of the building was remodeled in the early 20th century. The pub appears on the 1620 map of John Speed.The 18th-century extension, on the left-hand side of the building in Full Street, was originally a doctor's house, wherein he dissected the bodies of criminals who had been hanged.

With the arrival of the railways in the 19th century, Derby became a centre of the British rail industry. Despite having a cathedral since 1927, Derby did not gain city status until 1977. Derby is a centre for advanced transport manufacturing. It is home to engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce and Alstom (formerly Bombardier Transportation) has a production facility at the Derby Litchurch Lane Works; Toyota's UK headquarters is located in the south-west of the city at Burnaston.

The Cathedral Church of All Saints, Derby, better known as Derby Cathedral, is a cathedral church in the city of Derby, England. In 1927, it was promoted from parish church status to that of a cathedral, creating a seat for the Bishop of Derby, which new see was created in that year. The original church of All Saints was founded in the mid-10th century as a royal collegiate church, dedicated to All Saints. The main body of the church as it stands today is a Georgian rebuilding by James Gibbs, completed in 1725. The tower dates from the 16th century, and a retroquire was added in the 20th century.

Derby power station supplied electricity to the town of Derby and the surrounding area from 1893 to 1969. The power station was built and operated by Derby Corporation and started generating electricity in October 1893. It was located in Silkmill Lane in the town centre adjacent to the River Derwent from which it drew its cooling water. The power station was extended in the 1920s and 1940s. It was closed in 1969 and was subsequently demolished.
