Mangfall

Gmund am Tegernsee is a municipality in the district of Miesbach in Bavaria in Germany. The town is located on the north shore of the Tegernsee Lake, and near the source of River Mangfall. It is 46 kilometres (29 mi) from Munich and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the district capital, the town of Miesbach. Famous personalities who lived in Gmund were the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Ludwig Erhard, who is buried in Gmund's cemetery, the architect Sep Ruf and the clockmaker Johann Mannhardt. Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler and his family maintained a home there from 1934 to 1945. Gmund is served by a station on the privately owned Tegernsee-Bahn railway, and is linked to Munich by trains of the Bayerische Oberlandbahn.

The Tegernsee is a Zungenbecken lake in the Bavarian Alps in southern Germany. The lake is the centre of a popular recreation area 50 kilometres (31 mi) south-east of Munich. Resorts on the lake include the eponymous Tegernsee, as well as Bad Wiessee, Kreuth, Gmund, and Rottach-Egern. The lake is some 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) in length, 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) across at its widest, and spans an area of 8.934 square kilometres (3.449 sq mi). It reaches a maximum depth of 72.6 metres (238 ft), with an average depth of 36.3 metres (119 ft), and the normal water level is 725.5 metres (2,380 ft) above sea level. The lake flows into the River Mangfall, a tributary of the River Inn and thence the River Danube. The buildings of the former Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee Abbey lie on the banks of the lake. Now in private hands, they are now known as Schloss Tegernsee. The area around the lake is linked to Munich by rail through trains of the Bayerische Oberlandbahn, which, in the final part of their journey, travel over the tracks of the privately owned Tegernsee-Bahn. Pleasure boat services serve several points on the lake, and are operated by boats of the Bayerische Seenschifffahrt company. Adolf Hitler owned a house on the shores of Tegernsee and reclused here following the suicide of his niece and girlfriend, Geli Raubal, in 1931.

The Neureuth is a 1,261-metre-high (4,137 ft) mountain in the Bavarian Prealps east of Lake Tegernsee in Bavaria, Germany. It is a popular destination for the citizens of Munich. The summit with the much-visited Neureuth Inn can be reached by an easy hike from the town Tegernsee or from the village Gasse (Gmund am Tegernsee). Even in winter the Neureuth is accessible without special equipment. The Neureuth Inn operates all year round. Alternatively, one can also descend on the 1,335-metre-high (4,380 ft) Gindelalmschneid and Gindelalm to Schliersee.

Bad Wiessee (Central Bavarian: Bad Wiessä) is a municipality in the district of Miesbach in Upper Bavaria in Germany. Since 1922, it has been a spa town and located on the western shore of the Tegernsee Lake. It had a population of around 4800 inhabitants in 2014. The word "Bad" means "spa" or "baths", while "Wiessee" derives from "Westsee", meaning "western part of the lake". Bad Wiessee was first documented in 1017 in the tax book of the Tegernsee Abbey, encouraged to pay goods to the abbey. Bad Wiessee is known for its healing sulfur-fountain, discovered by the Dutch oil explorer Adriaan Stoop in 1909 while he was drilling for oil. He built the first iodine sulfur bath in 1912 after oil production had been exhausted. People spend their holidays in Bad Wiessee because of its quiet atmosphere and its location at the north side of the Alps.Tourism is one of the main sources of income for the population of Bad Wiessee. Although spa tourism has declined in the last decades, Bad Wiessee is still very popular for its casino and with wealthy people, many of them buying a second home or condo to spend their holidays or retirement there. The hotels, shops and restaurants cater for the medium-price-category traveller but traditional B&B and reasonable priced accommodations are still available all year round.

The Tegernsee station (Tegernsee Bf) is the railroad station of the town of Tegernsee in the district of Miesbach, Upper Bavaria. It is the terminus of the railroad line coming from Schaftlach. Tegernsee station was built as part of the extension of the railroad line from Gmund station and was ceremonially opened on May 1, 1902.
