On the night of December 28, 2017, a fire tore through an apartment building in the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx in New York City. Thirteen people died, and fourteen others were injured. At the time, it was the city's deadliest fire in 25 years, being surpassed a little over four years later by another apartment fire in the Bronx that killed seventeen people.As a result of the fire, the New York City Council passed ordinances mandating self-closing doors and child-safety knobs in apartments, as well as better communication about fire safety between the New York City Fire Department and families with children.

St Barnabas Hospital is a non-profit teaching hospital founded in 1866. The hospital is located in the Belmont neighborhood of The Bronx in New York City. It is a level II adult trauma center and is a major clinical affiliate for clinical clerkship of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Tremont Avenue is a street in the Bronx, New York City. Its west end is at Sedgwick Avenue in Morris Heights, and its east end is at Schurz Avenue in Throggs Neck, running almost the entire width of the Bronx. Around 2009, part of East Tremont Avenue renamed to Hector Lavoe Avenue, in honor of the late salsa musician.

Westchester Avenue is a major east-west street in the South and East portions of the Bronx, New York City. It runs from Third Avenue and 150th Street in the Hub to Pelham Bay Park in the Pelham Bay section. The IRT White Plains Road Line (2 and ​5 trains) runs over Westchester Avenue from Brook Avenue to Southern Boulevard and the IRT Pelham Line (6 and <6>​ trains) runs over Westchester Avenue from Whitlock Avenue to its terminus at Pelham Bay Park. The Bx4/Bx4A buses use Westchester Avenue between Bergen Avenue and Parkchester (Bx4A) or Westchester Square (Bx4) while the Bx24 uses Westchester Avenue north of Westchester Square. The Bx8 and Bx27 use the road for short segments.

Southern Boulevard is a street in the Bronx, New York City, United States. It stretches from Bruckner Boulevard in Mott Haven to Mosholu Parkway in Bedford Park. From 1981 until 2011, the portion north of Fordham Road, adjacent to the New York Botanical Garden, was also named Dr. Theodore L. Kazimiroff Boulevard. In 2011, the name of Kazimiroff, a Bronx historian and a founder of The Bronx County Historical Society, was changed to an honorary designation for this portion of Southern Boulevard after the New York City Department of Transportation, having been lobbied by Fordham University, decided that the designation was little known and confusing to those unfamiliar with the area.The 2 and ​5 trains run directly above Southern Boulevard from Simpson Street to 174th Street. The 6 and <6>​ trains also run under Southern Boulevard from East 143rd Street to Hunts Point Avenue. The Bx9 and Bx19 also serve Southern Boulevard, with the Bx19 serving Southern Boulevard between East 149th Street and New York Botanical Garden and the Bx9 serving Southern Boulevard between East 180th Street and Fordham Road. The Bx5 and Bx26 serve short portions of the street.

Twin Parks is a housing development in the Bronx, New York City. Its buildings were designed by leading architects, and were widely hailed as "the cutting edge of public design" when constructed in the early 1970s. The project, divided into Twin Parks West and Twin Parks East, consists of 2,250 apartments, three schools, and three day care centers; it is located in the central Bronx. The two segments of the Twin Parks development are located several blocks from each other in the East Tremont, Tremont and Fordham neighborhoods, with Twin Parks East situated adjacent to Bronx Park and Twin Parks West near Webster Avenue. The development is named after Bronx Park and Crotona Park, which also is nearby.Despite its early promise, Twin Parks was deemed a failure because the project was beset by violence and failed to curb neighborhood decline. It was the site of a fire that claimed 17 lives and injured 44 others on January 9, 2022.

The 183rd Street station was a local station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line in the Bronx, New York City. It was opened on July 1, 1901, and was one of three stations built when the line was extended to Fordham Plaza. It had three tracks and two side platforms. The station was located near what is today Saint Barnabas Hospital Pediatrics, and was five blocks east of the former New York Central Railroad station of the same name along the Harlem Line. The next stop to the north was Fordham Road–190th Street. The next stop to the south was 180th Street. The station closed on April 29, 1973. This station was very famous for Dondi's "Children of the Grave: Part II"
