Burches Run Wildlife Management Area, formerly Burches Run Lake WMA, is located on 55 acres (22 ha) near Wheeling in Marshall County, West Virginia. Until 2005 the wildlife management area contained a lake impounded by a dam at risk of failure. The name change occurred after the dam was removed. The terrain climbs gently above Burches Run and is covered by a mature oak-hickory second-growth forest.

Bishop Donahue Memorial High School was a private, Roman Catholic high school in McMechen, West Virginia. It was part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. It was named after Bishop Patrick James Donahue (1849–1922), who served as the third Bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling from 1894 until his death in 1922. At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Bishop Donahue High School closed. It was opened for 62 school years (1955 - 2017) and graduated 59 classes (1959 - 2017).

The McMechen Lockmaster Houses on the Ohio River, also known as the Ohio River Lock & Dam No. 13, were a set of two historic homes located at McMechen, Marshall County, West Virginia. They were built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1910, to house the lockmaster's family and engineer. They were set side by side and are mirror images of each other. They were 2½ stories high, with a brick first floor and aggregate stucco above in the Tudor Revival style. They feature vertical wood half-timbering, angled on the gable ends.They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Elm Grove Stone Arch Bridge, also known as the Monument Place Bridge, is the oldest extant bridge, built in 1817, in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The bridge carries U.S. Route 40 over Little Wheeling Creek in Elm Grove. The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 1981.

Benwood is a city in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States, along the Ohio River. It is part of the Wheeling, West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,269 at the 2020 census.Benwood was chartered in 1853 and incorporated in 1895. The name of the city is derived from "Ben's Woods", as Benjamin McMechen (1777–1855) inherited that portion of land from the estate of his father, William McMechen (1724–1797), and built his homestead upon it. The neighboring city of McMechen is named after William McMechen and his family, who were among the earliest settlers of this area.
