Danville Community College (DCC) is one of the twenty-three two-year colleges in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). It is located in Danville, Virginia. Unlike many of the other VCCS schools, it predates the formation of a statewide body for junior colleges. Its roots began in 1936 as Danville Textile School. In addition, a branch campus of Virginia Tech located in Danville was folded into the college in 1968. Danville Community College also has a baseball team, which won the Virginia Community College System state baseball championships in 2006 and 2007. Danville Community College is an 86-acre (350,000 m2) institution of higher education serving the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County. The main campus is located on South Main Street in Danville, consisting of 11 college buildings. Beginning as early as 1890, the campus of Danville Military Institute (1890 to 1939) housed prisoners of war during World War II (1944–1945), was home to the off-campus engineering division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (named VPI Extension - fall 1946 to 1950, Danville Branch of VPI - 1950 to 1965, and Danville Division of VPI - 1965 to 1968), and shared the campus with Danville Technical Institute (formerly Danville Textile School) from 1945 to 1966, until DTI merged with the Danville Division of VPI to form Danville Community College. Danville Community College is governed by an advisory board of nine members. The college is supervised by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and State Board for Community Colleges, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033–4097) to award associate degrees to those students successfully completing a curriculum.

Danville National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Danville, Virginia. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 3.5 acres (1.4 ha) and, as of the end of 2005, it had 2,282 interments. It is managed by Salisbury National Cemetery.

Sovah Health – Danville, previously known as Danville Regional Medical Center is a 250-bed hospital located in Danville, Virginia, US. It was formerly known as The Memorial Hospital and changed its name in 1993, before being purchased by Lifepoint Hospitals in July 2005.The hospital is certified by the Joint Commission.

Langhorne House, also known as the Gwynn Apartments, is an historic late 19th-century house in Danville, Virginia later enlarged and used as an apartment house. Its period of significance is 1922, when Nancy Langhorne Astor, by then known as Lady Astor and the first woman to sit in the British Parliament, came to Danville to visit her birthplace and promote Anglo-American relations. The original dwelling was built in 1874 as a one-story, central-passage plan structure with a rear ell. It was enlarged in 1878 to add a second story and Italianate-style porch. In 1921, the house was moved to the next lot and further enlarged, with conversion for use as four apartments. The house was attached to a three-story apartment building constructed at its original site. The front facade features a two-tier porch with fluted Doric columns in the Classical Revival style and multiple entries. In 1990, the structure was restored to its appearance in 1922, when Lady Astor made a speech to 5,000 people from the second-story porch of the house. Named after Civil War veteran and business magnate Chiswell Langhorne, the dwelling was the birthplace of his and his wife's several daughters, all noted for their beauty. Nancy Langhorne (1879-1964) moved to England as a young woman, married Waldorf Astor and won his former seat in the British Parliament in 1919. She returned to Virginia in 1922 to visit her birthplace and to promote relations between the important allies. Her visit to Danville received national coverage in the United States and is significant in local history.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Owned by the Lady Astor Preservation Trust, it is located in the Danville Historic District and is open to the public on Saturday afternoons or by appointment.

Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, also known as the William T. Sutherlin Mansion and the Confederate Memorial, is a historic home and museum building located at Danville, Virginia. It was built for Major William T. Sutherlin in 1857–1858, and is a two-story, five-bay, stuccoed building in the Italian Villa style. It features a one-story wooden porch, a shallow hipped roof surrounded by a heavy bracketed cornice and topped by a square cupola ornamented with pilasters and a bracketed cornice. While at the house, which served as his temporary residence from April 3 to April 10, 1865, on April 4, President Jefferson Davis signed his last official proclamation as President of the Confederate States of America. On April 10, Davis was at dinner at the house when he learned of the surrender at Appomattox.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. It is located in the Danville Historic District. The house is owned by the city and was used as the Danville Public Library from 1928 to 1972. This mansion, after being sold to the city, became a “whites only” public library from 1928 to 1972. In the summer of 1960, Black students would decide that they wanted the library to be integrated, and staged a sit-in. To resist desegregation efforts, the library would be shut down, and would not open again until the fall of 1960. While the library now had to allow Black people into the library, it did not have to provide comfortable accommodations; and the library re-opened without chairs.

The Danville Historic District, also known as the Millionaire's Row and Old West End Historic District, is a national historic district located at Danville, Virginia. In 1973, the 110-acre (45 ha) district included 272 contributing buildings. They are considered the finest and most concentrated collection of Victorian and Edwardian residential architecture in Virginia. It includes notable examples of the Gothic Revival and Romanesque Revival styles. Located in the district is the separately listed Langhorne House, Penn-Wyatt House, and the Sutherlin Mansion, the last official residence of President Jefferson Davis.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Danville Tobacco Warehouse and Residential District is a national historic district located at Danville, Virginia. The district includes 532 contributing buildings, 3 contributing sites, and 2 contributing structures in the city of Danville. The district reflects the late-19th century and early-20th development of Danville as a tobacco processing center and includes residential, commercial, and industrial buildings reflecting that growth. It also includes archaeological sites related to early Native American settlements in the area. Notable buildings include the American Tobacco's Harris Building, the Imperial Tobacco Company Building, Cabell Warehouse, Patton Storage Units (c. 1940), Crowell Motor Company, Municipal Power Station (1912), Riverside Cotton Mill #1 (1886), and a variety of "shotgun" houses and bungalow workers housing. Located in the district are the separately listed Danville Municipal Building and Danville Southern Railway Passenger Depot.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, with a boundary increase in 2009.

American Legion Field is a stadium in Danville, Virginia. Located in this Southside Virginia city's Dan Daniel Memorial Park, just north of the Dan River, it is primarily used for baseball and is the home field of Danville Otterbots in the Appalachian League, a summer collegiate baseball league. It previously hosted the Danville Braves Minor League Baseball team from 1993 to 2020. It was built in 1993 and was named for American Legion Memorial Post 325, which serves the city's northern half. It holds 2,588 people, in a V-shaped configuration of several disconnected units running from the first to third base side. The venue hosted the 2002 American Legion Baseball World Series won by West Point, MS Post 212. It also hosted the 2001 and 2008 Big South Conference baseball tournaments, both won by Coastal Carolina.

Schoolfield School Complex is a complex of historic school buildings located at Danville, Virginia. The complex consists of Building A, built in 1912 or 1913, Building B, built in 1936 or 1937, and Building C, built in 1939 or 1940. Building A is a 2 1/2-story, Prairie School style brick building with deep eaves that cap a narrow elongated structure, multi-paned massed windows, and horizontal masonry banding. It has an entry tower and addition built in 1933. Building B is a vernacular brick building that operated as a vocational center. Building C is a one-story, brick Colonial Revival style elementary school building. It was originally built as a Public Works Administration project and housed Schoolfield High School. The complex was built by the Riverside & Dan River Cotton Mill Company as part of the mill worker neighborhood called "Schoolfield Village."It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Penn–Wyatt House, also known as the Hoffman House, is a historic home located at Danville, Virginia. It was built in 1876, and modified between 1887 and 1903. It is a two-story, stuccoed brick dwelling with Italianate and Second Empire style architectural elements. It features projecting bay windows, a central three-story entrance tower topped by a bell-cast mansard roof, brownstone quoining, a one-story porch with Ionic order columns, and a multi-gable roof.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located in the Danville Historic District.

Averett University is a private Baptist university in Danville, Virginia. Founded in 1859 as a women's college, Averett became a 4-year, coeducational institution in 1969. In 2011, the university restored its Baptist affiliation, renewing a relationship that had existed from Averett's founding until 2005.

The Schoolfield Welfare Building is a historic function hall at 917 West Main Street in Danville, Virginia. The architecturally eclectic brick two story building was built 1916-17 by Dan River, Inc. as a social center for its workers. The building has a Mission-style tile hip roof, with extended eaves supported by brackets. The building housed meeting spaces, a day-care center, and a medical clinic, as well as providing a large function space. A kindergarten playhouse made out of false logs and daubing was added to the property in 1938. It is now owned by a non-profit organization.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
