The Kilgore Mill Covered Bridge and Mill Site, near Bethlehem, Georgia, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The bridge, built in 1894, has also been known as the Bethlehem Bridge, the Apalachee River Bridge, and the Briscoe Mill Bridge It is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southwest of Bethlehem, across the Apalachee River (which is the boundary between Barrow County and Walton County).It is a single-span Town lattice truss bridge, 117 feet (36 m) long.

The major employer in town is Harrison Poultry, which is the largest non-government employer in Barrow County. The town was named after a local church, Bethlehem Methodist Church, and has a strong Christmas theme, with many of the street names being references to the nativity of Jesus, such as Mary, Joseph, and Manger. After the introduction of a 1967 stamp in Bethlehem, the town became known as a popular location for sending mail from during the holidays, as the post office sends letters marked "from Bethlehem."

Fort Yargo State Park is a 1,816-acre (7.35 km2) U.S. state park located in Winder, Georgia, situated between Athens and Atlanta. The park is located 1 mile south of Winder and is accessible by Georgia State Route 81. There is a 260-acre (1.1 km2) lake with a public beach. Available activities at Fort Yargo include GeoCaching, hiking, mountain biking, disc golf, boating (including Jon boat, pedal boat, and canoe rentals), lake swimming, fishing, picnicking, and miniature golf. The park also features a log fort built in 1792 by settlers, for protection against the Creek and Cherokee. The park also hosts Camp Will-A-Way, an accessible camp designed for individuals with developmental disabilities, in partnership with Camp Twin Lakes.

Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy, also known as BASA, is a STEM and arts-focused high school near Winder, Georgia, United States, serving grades 9–12. It has an enrollment of 1,064 students. The school has the highest graduation rate in Barrow County, at 97.8%. Unlike traditional high schools, BASA runs on a lottery system that any high school student can enter regardless of their location in the county. The school is home to the BASA "Blazers." During the Covid-19 pandemic, face masks were optional at the school. In 2023, the school announced they would no longer have a track team, sparking arguments with the school board.

On September 4, 2024, a mass shooting occurred at Apalachee High School near Winder, Georgia, United States. The suspect, 14-year-old Colt Gray, allegedly shot eleven people. Two students and two teachers were killed, while seven others were injured by gunfire. Gray was taken into police custody and charged with four counts of felony murder. His father, Colin Gray, was also charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in relation to the shooting, having bought his son the gun allegedly used in the shooting. The shooting is the deadliest school shooting in the history of Georgia.
