Chino Creek

Prado Dam is an earth-fill dry dam across the Santa Ana River at the Chino Hills near Corona, California in Riverside County with the resulting impounded water creating Prado Flood Control Basin reservoir. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam in Lower Santa Ana River Canyon. Its primary purpose is flood control and it is the downstream element of the Santa Ana River's flood control system, which is a natural constriction about 30.5 mi (49.1 km) upstream from the ocean. The area upstream from the dam contains 2,255 sq mi (5,840 km2) of the watershed's 2,650 sq mi (6,900 km2). The dam's construction was authorized in 1936 and the flood of 1938 demonstrated its necessity. Construction was completed in 1941. Prado Flood Control Basin also provides water storage for groundwater recharge operations.

Prado Reservoir is a reservoir in northwestern Riverside County and southwestern San Bernardino County, a couple of miles west of the city of Corona, in the U.S. state of California. The reservoir has a capacity of 362,000 acre-feet (447,000,000 m3) and is formed by Prado Dam on the Santa Ana River. The dam is composed of rock-fill and has a height of 106 feet (32 m) above the original streambed. It was built on the upper end of the Lower Santa Ana River Canyon, where there is a natural constriction in the river. It is below 2,255 square miles (5,840 km2) of the 2,450-square-mile (6,300 km2) Santa Ana River watershed. The dam was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and was completed in 1941. Prado Dam and Prado Reservoir provide flood control and water conservation. Their operation is coordinated with the facilities upstream. Prado Reservoir is not a storage reservoir, so water is released as quickly as possible while still allowing for groundwater recharge. When the water level reaches the top of the buffer pool, whose size changes depending on time of year, water is released at the maximum rate that the downstream channel will safely allow. As of 2006, the capacity of the channel is 5,000 cubic feet (140 m3) per second (140 m³/s), but channelization will eventually increase the capacity to 30,000 cubic feet (850 m3) per second (850 m³/s). During flood season, the buffer pool only has a capacity of 8,437 acre-feet (10,407,000 m3), while outside of flood season, the capacity increases to 25,760 acre-feet (31,770,000 m3). Since this is 2.3 and 7.1 percent of the reservoir's total capacity, respectively, the reservoir is usually fairly empty.

The Freeway Complex Fire was a 2008 wildfire in the Santa Ana Canyon area of Orange County, California. The fire started as two separate fires on November 15, 2008. The Freeway Fire started first shortly after 9 am with the Landfill Fire igniting approximately 2 hours later. These two separate fires merged a day later and ultimately destroyed 314 residences in Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda.

Temescal Creek (shown on federal maps as Temescal Wash) is an approximately 29-mile-long (47 km) watercourse in Riverside County, in the U.S. state of California. Flowing primarily in a northwestern direction, it connects Lake Elsinore with the Santa Ana River. It drains the eastern slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains on its left and on its right the western slopes of the Temescal Mountains along its length. With a drainage basin of about 1,000 square miles (2,600 km2), it is the largest tributary of the Santa Ana River, hydrologically connecting the 720-square-mile (1,900 km2) San Jacinto River and Lake Elsinore watersheds to the rest of the Santa Ana watershed. However, flowing through an arid rain shadow zone of the Santa Ana Mountains, and with diversion of ground water for human use, the creek today is ephemeral for most of its length, except for runoff from housing developments and agricultural return flows.

Corona–West station is a Metrolink station in west Corona, California, on the 91/Perris Valley and Inland Empire–Orange County lines. Thirty-five Metrolink trains serve the station on weekdays.The station is located at 155 S. Auto Center Drive, and has 504 parking spaces. Like all Metrolink stations in Riverside County, this station is owned by the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

Corona Municipal Airport (ICAO: KAJO, FAA LID: AJO), formerly L66, is three miles northwest of Downtown Corona, serving Riverside County, California, United States. The airport has a few businesses, such as a cafe, "Flying Academy" flight training center, and aircraft maintenance and repair.Most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, but Corona Municipal Airport is AJO to the FAA and has no IATA code (Aljouf, Yemen has IATA code AJO).

Coronita (Spanish for "Small crown") is a census-designated place in Riverside County, California. Coronita sits at an elevation of 630 feet (190 m). The 2010 United States census reported Coronita's population was 2,608.

Prado Regional Park is a 2,000-acre (8.1 km2) park in Chino, California within the jurisdiction of San Bernardino County. It offers fishing, archery, camping, a golf course, horseback riding, and a shooting range, which was the site of the 1984 Olympic shooting events. The park traces its origins to the Santa Ana River floods of 1937 and 1938, which prompted the construction of the Prado Dam in 1939. A state legislative report in 1961 judged that the area around the Prado Dam did "not possess the necessary features or meet the criteria for inclusion in the State Park System." However, the report recommended a county level administration of a park. In 1972, after community efforts, the State Water Commission approved a $1.3 million grant to help construct a county regional park at the Prado Dam. Prado Park officially opened on July 2, 1976.

The Yorba–Slaughter Adobe is a historic adobe house located at 17127 Pomona Rincon Road near Chino, California. Built in the early 1850s, the adobe is typical of the building style prevalent during and around California's period of Mexican governance. Raimundo Yorba built the adobe on land thought to be part of Rancho El Rincon, a land grant owned by his father, Bernardo Yorba; however, a later survey determined the adobe was not part of the rancho. The younger Yorba lived in the adobe until 1868, when Forty-Niner and Mexican–American War veteran Fenton M. Slaughter bought the house. Slaughter, who later served in the California State Assembly, lived in the house until his 1897 death.Slaughter's daughter, Julia Slaughter Fuqua, began rehabilitating the adobe in 1928. The adobe was designated a California Historical Landmark on June 20, 1935. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 7, 1975.The adobe now functions as a branch museum of the San Bernardino County Museum and includes an 1890s period general store.

Rancho El Rincón was a 4,431-acre (17.93 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Bernardino County and Riverside County, California given in 1839 to Juan Bandini by Governor Juan Alvarado. El rincón means "the corner" in Spanish. The grant, located south of present-day Chino, was bounded on the east by Rancho Jurupa, on the south by the Santa Ana River, on the west by Rancho Cañón de Santa Ana, and extending northerly from the river one league. The rancho lands include Prado Regional Park.

California Institution for Women (CIW) is a women's state prison located in the city of Chino, San Bernardino County, California, east of Los Angeles, although the mailing address states "Corona," which is in Riverside County, California.
