Hasselt University (Dutch: Universiteit Hasselt or UHasselt) is a public research university with campuses in Hasselt and Diepenbeek, Belgium. It has more than 7,000 students and 1,700 academic, administrative and technical staff (2023). The university was officially established in 1971 as the Limburg Universitair Centrum (LUC) and changed its name to Hasselt University in 2005. UHasselt is ranked 35th out of 605 in the 2023 Times Higher Education ranking of universities younger than 50 years. In the European Commission's U-Multirank 2022, UHasselt scores a top ten overall result, with fifteen excellent indicators. Hasselt University has an extensive regional, national and global network, fostering collaboration in education, research and innovation. As of October 2020, Rector of Hasselt University is Prof. Bernard Vanheusden. Vice-Rector for Education is Prof. Wanda Guedens, Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Ken Haenen.

The Trixxo Arena is the largest multipurpose arena in Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium used for music concerts, sports (tennis, indoor cycling, jumping, etc.) and other large events. It opened in September 2004 at a total construction cost of €11.7 million. The arena complex can hold up to around 21,000 people, with the Main Hall holding a maximum of 18,000.The Trixxo Arena is a part of Park H and the complex has a surface of 25,000 square metres (270,000 sq ft), with the Main Hall covering 13,600 square metres (146,000 sq ft). At the end of 2005, "Plopsa Indoor Hasselt", an indoor attraction park for children, opened next to the arena and is unique in Belgium. Until 25 August 2021, the Trixxo Arena was known as the Ethias Arena.

Park H in Hasselt, Belgium is one of the biggest event complexes in the Benelux. The first halls, the Grenslandhallen, were built in 1983. In 2002 one of the first halls has been transformed into a congress theatre for musicals, concerts, ... up to 5000 people. In 2004 the complex has been extended with the "Ethias Arena" (now Trixxo Arena), the biggest arena in Belgium, for more than 21,000 people.In 2018, the Grenslandhallen, were renamed to Park H. The whole complex has now a surface of almost 35,000 square metres. Plopsa Indoor Hasselt is an indoor attraction park for children.

The Japanese Garden of Hasselt is a park in the Belgian city of Hasselt. Designed in the traditional 17th-century style, it was donated to the Belgian city by the city of Itami. It is the largest Japanese garden in Europe.

Bokrijk is a railway station in the Bokrijk area close to the town of Genk, Limburg, Belgium. The station opened on 3 March 1874 and is located on line 21A. The station was closed on 2 October 1949 and reopened on 26 May 1979. The train services are operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS).

Kiewit Airfield (ICAO: EBZH) is a recreational airfield located near Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium. It has a single grass runway of 600 m length. It is operated by Aeroclub Kiewit. There is mixed activity of airplanes and gliders.It is also home to gliding club Albatros.

Pukkelpop is an annual music festival that takes place near the city of Hasselt, Belgium, in mid- to late August. It is held within a large enclosure of fields and woodland—adjacent to a dual carriageway called Kempische Steenweg—in the village of Kiewit, approximately 7 km north of Hasselt. It is one of the largest music festivals in Belgium, with an attendance of 180,000 over the course of the event in 2009.The program is noted for its wide variety of alternative music, spanning styles such as rock, pop, electronic, dance, hip-hop, punk and heavy metal. The event's organizers aim for a "progressive and contemporary" musical event. Notable acts that have performed at previous editions include Beastie Boys, Papa Roach, Rihanna, Within Temptation, Sonic Youth, Placebo, Ramones, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Metallica, PJ Harvey, Green Day, Blink-182, Guns N' Roses, Pixies, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Nine Inch Nails, Iron Maiden, Björk, The Stone Roses and Eminem. "Pukkel" is the Dutch word for "pimple".

Kiewit is a railway station in Kiewit, close to the city of Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium. The station opened on 28 May 1974 and is located on line 21A. The station was closed on 3 June 1984 and reopened on 28 May 1989. The train services are operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS). The station was opened close to the location of the Philips factory in an attempt to reduce the congestion caused by people travelling to work at the factory by car. The station is also used by students travelling to nearby schools and people travelling to the Pukkelpop music festival.

Diepenbeek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdipə(m)beːk] ; Limburgish: Diepenbik) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg near Hasselt. On January 1, 2012, Diepenbeek had a total population of 18,337. Its total area is 41.19 km² (15.9 sq mi) which gives a population density of 430 inhabitants per km² (1,203/sq mi). The municipality includes the communities and hamlets of Bijenberg, het Crijt, Dorpheide, Keizel, Lutselus, Pampert, Piannesberg, Reitje, Rooierheide, Rozendaal, and Zwartveld. It is home to Hasselt University, slowly expanding towards Hasselt itself. The Limburg Science Park is located on the university campus.

Kiewit (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkiʋɪt]) is a Belgian parish and village within the northernmost extension of the Flemish municipality of Hasselt. It also borders on the municipality of Zonhoven to the north and Genk to the east, with Kuringen, another part of Hasselt, to the west.

Diepenbeek railway station is a railway stop on the Hasselt–Liège railway in the Belgian municipality of Diepenbeek. The station was opened in 1856 along the new railway line between Hasselt and Maastricht. In the end of the 1950s, the station lost importance and was closed. After the Limburg University Center was established near the former station in 1973, there was an increasing demand from students to reopen the station. This finally happened in 1991, when a stop was opened at the site of the former station. In the context of the Spartacus plan, all level crossings in Diepenbeek will be removed, including the one in Stationsstraat. They will be replaced by passenger underpasses. In addition, the platforms will be renewed in 2021 and raised to the new standard of 76 centimetres (30 in).

Diepenbeek Castle (Dutch: Kasteel van Diepenbeek, also known as the Rentmeesterij van Alden Biesen) is a castle in Diepenbeek near Hasselt in the province of Limburg, Belgium. The building consists of a 15th-century keep with a 17th-century main block. It was once the establishment of the steward (Dutch: Rentmeester) of the nearby Commandery of Alden Biesen, whence the alternative name.
