Port Republic is a city on the Mullica River, located in Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 1,101, a decrease of 14 (−1.3%) from the 2010 census count of 1,115, which in turn reflected an increase of 78 (+7.5%) from the 1,037 counted in the 2000 census. It is a dry town, where alcohol is not permitted to be sold by law. Geographically, the city, and all of Atlantic County, is part of the South Jersey region of the state and of the Atlantic City-Hammonton metropolitan statistical area, which in turn is included in the Philadelphia-Reading-Camden combined statistical area and the Delaware Valley.

The Battle of Chestnut Neck was fought on October 6, 1778 in southern New Jersey during the American Revolutionary War, at Chestnut Neck, a settlement on the Little Egg Harbor River (now known as the Mullica River) near the present-day city of Port Republic, New Jersey, which was used as a base by privateers. The British retrieved some supplies and destroyed others, as well as destroying some residences and other buildings. Learning that Count Casimir Pulaski was on the way, the British quickly left by ship the following day. They had an encounter with Pulaski's forces a week later and caused heavy losses.

The Port Republic School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade from Port Republic, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising one school, had an enrollment of 104 students and 15.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 6.7:1. In the 2016–17 school year, Port Republic was the 12th-smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 118 students.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Cedar Creek High School, which is located in the northern section of Egg Harbor City and opened to students in September 2010. The school is one of three high schools operated as part of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District, which also includes the constituent municipalities of Egg Harbor City, Galloway Township, Hamilton Township, and Mullica Township, and participates in sending/receiving relationships with Port Republic and Washington Township (Burlington County). Cedar Creek High School is zoned to serve students from Egg Harbor City, Mullica Township, Port Republic and Washington Township, while students in portions of Galloway and Hamilton townships have the opportunity to attend Cedar Creek through the school of choice program or through attendance in magnet programs offered at Cedar Creek. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 930 students and 73.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7:1.

The Port Republic Historic District is a 100-acre (40 ha) historic district located in the city of Port Republic in Atlantic County, New Jersey. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 16, 1991, for its significance in architecture, engineering, industry, and maritime history. The district has 110 contributing buildings, including the individually listed Amanda Blake Store, and four other contributing sites.

The Amanda Blake Store is a historic building located at 104 Main Street in the city of Port Republic in Atlantic County, New Jersey. Built in 1884 as a general store, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 1979, for its significance in commerce and social history. It is now a privately-owned house. The building was listed as a contributing property of the Port Republic Historic District in 1991.

The Bass River is a 4.7-mile-long (7.6 km) tributary of the Mullica River in southeastern New Jersey in the United States. The river is located primarily in Bass River, New Jersey, which was named for the river, which was in turn named for Jeremiah Basse, who served as governor of both West Jersey and East Jersey.It rises in the Pinelands of southeastern Burlington County and flows generally south, through Bass River State Forest, and joins the Mullica from the north approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) upstream from its mouth on Great Bay. The lower 2 miles (3.2 km) of the river forms an arm of the estuary of the Mullica. The river is part of the watershed of the Mullica that drains an extensive unspoiled wetlands region of New Jersey. The majority of the land within the drainage basin is forested, and under state protection. Near the mouth and lower parts of the river, there is tidal influence.

The Bass River Township School District is a non-operating public school district that serves students from Bass River Township, in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States.Based on the results of a study performed by the Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center of Stockton University, and in the wake of declining enrollment and rising costs, the district decided tp send all of its PreK-6 students to the Little Egg Harbor Township School District, starting in the 2020-21 school year. The board of education will oversee what becomes a non-operating district.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising one school, had an enrollment of 106 students and 12.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.3:1. In the 2016–17 school year, Bass River had the 10th-smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 102 students.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "CD", the sixth-highest of eight groupings. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students in seventh through twelfth grades attend the schools of the Pinelands Regional School District, which also serves students from Eagleswood Township, Little Egg Harbor Township and Tuckerton Borough. Schools in the district (with 2018–19 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics) are Pinelands Regional Junior High School with 811 students in grades 7-9 and Pinelands Regional High School with 744 students in grades 10–12. The district's board of education includes nine members directly elected by the residents of the constituent municipalities to three-year terms on a staggered basis, with three seats up for election each year. Bass River Township is allocated one of the nine seats.

New Gretna (pronounced /gɹ'εtnʌ/) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Bass River Township in Burlington County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 08224.As of the 2010 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 08224 was 573. The population for the ZCTA as of the 2000 United States Census was 543.The Bead Wreck Site at New Gretna is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as site #88001899. New Gretna was named after Gretna Green in Scotland.

The Pilgrim Academy is a private Christian school located in Egg Harbor City, in Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Founded by Dr. Warren Allem in 1971, the school teaches children from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school is accredited by the American Association of Christian Schools through September 2021. The school is also part of the Garden State Association of Christian Schools.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 334 students (plus 17 in PreK) and 30.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.1:1. The school's student body was 69.8% (233) White, 13.8% (46) Black, 12.0% (40) two or more races, 2.4% (8) Asian and 2.1% (8) Hispanic.

Emmell's Septic Landfill (ESL) is located at 128 Zurich Ave, Galloway Township, New Jersey and takes up about 38 acres of space. The landfill was in operation from 1967 until 1979. ESL disposed of liquid and solid waste including many chemicals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Trichloroethene and Vinyl chloride which all had their own effect on the environment and community. These chemicals affected the groundwater required millions of dollars to reconstruct the groundwater pathways and provide clean water to residents. The landfill holds a Hazardous Ranking Score of a 50/100, qualifying for the Superfund National Priority List. In August 1999, the state acknowledged the site's contamination and held town meetings and provided research upon the site such as groundwater samples. In July 1997, a sitewide investigation was called upon by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In total the clean up was estimated to cost $5 million to fund this superfund site, and a grant of $3.9 million was given by the Federal Government under the Recovery Act Funding (Previti). Today, the project is still ongoing however, greatly improved since the landfill was discovered.

Smithville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Galloway Township, in Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, that was established as part of the 2010 United States Census. Smithville is located 15 miles (24 km) north of and inland from Atlantic City. As of the 2010 Census, the CDP's population was 7,242.Although Smithville has existed as a community since the American Revolutionary War, most of the community remained very rural until the 1960s when the Smithville Towne Center, a tourist attraction containing over 80 shops, opened. The Towne Center was expanded to include numerous rides and other shops named "The Village Greene", which was the centerpiece of a large planned community developed since the 1980s.

Stockton University is a public university in Galloway Township, New Jersey. It is part of New Jersey's public system of higher education. It is named for Richard Stockton, one of the New Jersey signers of the Declaration of Independence. Founded in 1969, Stockton accepted its charter class in 1971. At its opening in 1971, classes were held at the Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City; the campus in Galloway Township began operating late in 1971. Nearly 10,000 students are enrolled at Stockton and it is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
