Schwyz

Battle of Schwyz im Muttenthal occurred on 14–15 August 1799 between French forces commanded by General of Division André Masséna and Major General von Franz Jellachich's brigade. The French lost 500 killed, wounded or missing, and the Austrians lost 2,400 men and six guns.

Schwyz District is a district of the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland. It is both the largest and most populous of the six districts of the canton of Schwyz, accounting for around half its surface area, and 40% of the population. It has a population of 56,125 (as of 31 December 2020). The district contains a total of 15 municipalities, of which the town of Schwyz is the capital.

Sparkasse Schwyz AG is a regional savings bank in the Swiss Canton of Schwyz, founded in 1812 and thus one of the oldest banks in continuous operation in the world. The bank has offices in Schwyz, Brunnen, Goldau and Küssnacht am Rigi. As of 2008, it had 61 employees. It is associated with RBA-Holding. The bank's main shareholder is the municipality of Schwyz.

The Museum of the Swiss Charters of Confederation (German: Bundesbriefmuseum; up to 1992 the Federal Charter Archive) is a history museum in Schwyz. It was built in 1936 as a national shrine for the Federal Charter of 1291, which was believed to be the founding document of the Swiss Confederation. Today, the museum explains the national myth and the actual history of the Old Swiss Confederacy. It features a collection of original documents and flags.

Ibach is a village in the municipality of Schwyz, itself in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It lies some 1.5 km (0.93 mi) to the south of the town centre of Schwyz, at the point where the road from Schwyz to Brunnen bridges the Muota river. A Swiss knife manufacturer Victorinox, known for its Swiss Army knives, was founded in Ibach, where it operates to this day.

Rickenbach is a village in the municipality of Schwyz, itself in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It lies some 1.5 km (0.93 mi) to the east of the town centre of Schwyz. The Rotenfluebahn, a gondola lift, links Rickenbach with the summit of the Rotenfluh mountain, which is, in summer, a popular vantage point over the Lake Lucerne region, and, in winter, a ski area.

Schwyz railway station (German: Bahnhof Schwyz) is a railway station in the municipality of Schwyz, the capital of the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Opened in 1882, it is owned and operated by the Swiss Federal Railways, and forms part of the Gotthard railway, which links northern Switzerland and Immensee with Chiasso and Italy, via the Gotthard Tunnel.The station is located in the village of Seewen in the middle of the Schwyz valley, about 2 km (1.2 mi) northwest of the town centre, between the Grosser Mythen and the Urmiberg.

Seewen is a village in the municipality of Schwyz, itself in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It lies some 2 km (1.2 mi) to the west of the town centre of Schwyz, and near the shore of Lake Lauerz. The outfall stream of the lake, the Seeweren, passes through the village on its way to join the Muota river. Schwyz railway station, on the Gotthard railway, is located in Seewen. The A4 motorway passes just to the west of the village, and an adjacent motorway junction provides access to it.

Stoos is a village located in the municipality of Morschach. It is situated at 1,300 m (4,300 ft) in the Swiss canton of Schwyz and has about 100 inhabitants (population was counted at 106 during a 2007 census). It is used as a small ski resort with a cable car leading to the Fronalpstock. The village is car-free and is accessible via the Stoosbahn funicular railway. This place has top spots, for example: 1. The Stoosbahn, also known as the Schwyz–Stoos funicular or Standseilbahn Schwyz–Stoos, is a funicular railway in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. It connects the Hintere Schlattli in the municipalities of Muotatal, Morschach, and Schwyz with the village and mountain resort of Stoos, above Morschach. On a length of 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi), it overcomes a height difference of 744 metres (2,441 ft). It opened on 15 December 2017 and replaces the older Schwyz-Stoos funicular, operating since 1933 on a different route. The carriages are barrel-shaped and rotate to maintain a level floor surface for passengers. Construction took five years and cost 52 million Swiss francs.The new line has a maximum gradient of 110% (47.7°) and is the steepest funicular railway in Switzerland and Europe, superseding the Gelmerbahn. It has been widely claimed to be the steepest in the world, and although the Katoomba Scenic Railway in Australia is steeper, with a maximum gradient of 122%, it uses a winch system and is, therefore, an incline lift and not a funicular railway.

The Grosser Mythen (also Grosse Mythe) is a mountain in the Schwyzer Alps of Central Switzerland. The mountain lies in the canton of Schwyz, to the east of the town of Schwyz, and to the south of the village of Alpthal in the valley of the river Alp.It is accessible from the Holzegg by a hiking trail which is opened during the summer months only. Geologically the Mythen is a penninic Klippe. The name is pronounced [ˈmiːtən]; it is in origin the plural referring to the Grosser and Kleiner Mythen collectively, each of which had the name Mythe (feminine) in the singular. The name is unrelated to the now-homographic German word for "myth"; Weibel (1973) derives it from Latin meta "cone, pyramid". Until the late 19th century, the name of the mountain was still feminine, die Grosse Mythe; after c. 1870, the masculine gender became increasingly common in written German although dialectically the feminine remains current.

The Mosi Tunnel is a motorway tunnel in Switzerland which opened in 1964. It is situated on the A4 and also the main part of the bypass of Brunnen SZ which leads between Brunnen North and Brunnen South. The two lane tunnel (one lane for each direction) is 1100 metres long and links the motorway A4 with the Axenstrasse. It is the longest road tunnel in the Canton of Schwyz and will be until the Morschacher Tunnel opens in 2020 between Brunnen North and Sisikon. Then the Mositunnel will lose its status as a motorway tunnel and will “only” be a main street tunnel.
