Molesey

Molesey Football Club is a football club based in West Molesey, Surrey, England. They are currently members of the Combined Counties League Division One and play at Walton Road.

Hurst Park Racecourse was a racecourse at Moulsey Hurst, West Molesey, Surrey, near the River Thames. It was first laid out in 1890 and held its last race in 1962. There was racing at nearby Hampton for many years until 1887. The first meeting at Hurst Park was a jumping fixture on 19 March 1890. The opening race was the Hurst Park Cup, worth £199, over two miles. It was won by Mr. Dougall's Sir Benedict, who also rode it. The first flat meeting was held on 25 March 1891. The Inauguration Plate of £188, over six furlongs, was the first race; it was won by Ready, ridden by W. Wood.The racecourse was the scene of an arson attack by Kitty Marion and Clara Elizabeth Giveen. The two suffragettes were establishing a revenge attack following the death of Emily Davison at the Derby in 1913.Hurst Park's most notable flat race was the Victoria Cup, a handicap over seven furlongs, which transferred to Ascot after the closure of Hurst Park. The Triumph Hurdle, over two miles for four year olds, was run here from 1939 until the course closed. It was then run at the Cheltenham Festival in March. The last race to be held here was the Byfleet Stakes, the 4.30 on Wednesday 10 October 1962, was won by the 11/8 favourite Anassa. Mansfield Town F.C. bought one of the grandstands for later use as the West Stand at Field Mill and Ascot Racecourse purchased 20 acres of turf which was used to lay down Ascot's new National Hunt racing course.Hurst Park was a right-handed oval of 1 mile 3 furlongs, with a home straight of about four furlongs. The five furlongs course was straight, but races over six and seven furlongs had a slight, left-handed elbow. The inner steeplechase course was sharp, with eight fences, five down the back straight, including the water jump, and three in the home straight.On the outbreak of World War II, Royal Engineers companies of 1st London Division of the Territorial Army mobilised at Hurst Park Racecourse before proceeding to France to join the British Expeditionary Force. In October 1941 "A" Company of 70th Battalion The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) moved into Hurst Park Racecourse for several months before moving to Hounslow Barracks with the rest of the Battalion. Some of the racecourse was kept as public access to the riverside Hurst Park, with the remainder sold for the building of the present varied height residential housing in 1962. In the summer of 2018 the site of the course's pre-parade ring became temporarily visible due to the dry conditions caused by the 2018 British Isles heat wave.

Moulsey Hurst is in West Molesey, Surrey on the south bank of the River Thames above Molesey Lock. It is one of England's oldest sporting venues and was used in the 18th and 19th centuries for cricket, prizefighting and other sports. This area is now called Hurst Park; the area currently called Molesey Hurst is smaller, and some 500m to the south. The site can be reached from Hampton across the river by Hampton Ferry when it is running in the summer.

The Island Barn Reservoir lies south of the River Thames in England at West Molesey and north of Lower Green, Esher. The reservoir is 122 acres (0.49 km2) large with a capacity of 992 million gallons and is managed by Thames Water. It is within the borough of Elmbridge and is surrounded by the River Mole to the west and the River Ember to the east. Queen Elizabeth II Reservoir is a larger reservoir to the West.

The River Ember is a short river in the north of Surrey, England — a channel of the River Mole which splits in two south of Island Barn Reservoir, between East Molesey and Lower Green, Esher. The Ember, the larger channel, flows in an easterly and then northerly direction around the reservoir, past part of Esher; the Mole flows around the other side past West Molesey. The two rivers then flow side by side approximately north east and merge 400 metres before joining the River Thames at the eastern end of East Molesey opposite Hampton Court Palace on the south side of the last non-tidal reach, which is above Teddington Lock.

Garrick's Ait (or Garrick's Eyot on Ordnance Survey maps), previously known as Shank's Eyot, is an ait in the River Thames in England on the reach above Molesey Lock, the nearest land being Moulsey Hurst (park) on the Surrey bank and the opposite bank being a much narrower riverside park of Hampton. It is the only island in the United Kingdom named after an actor.

Hampton Ferry is a seasonal foot (and cycle) ferry across the Thames in England. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) upstream, west, of Hampton Court Bridge. The bridge links a busy zone of activity on both banks including Hampton Court Palace. The ferry links a large riverside park to the oldest parts of the town of Hampton, London, including its church, inn and various listed buildings such as Garrick House which is private apartments and Garrick's Temple to Shakespeare beside a narrow strip of sloped bank. This is known as Saint Albans Riverside, as it was owned by one of the Dukes of Saint Albans, seated at Hanworth House and Park, about two miles away. On the north side, this part of former Middlesex became outer-most London in 1965 by an Act of 1963. The towpath on the south side is for about 400 metres each way in public grassland with picnic places and beyond, for about 1 mile (1.6 km) shaded by trees, east and west.

Benn's Island, previously named Church Eyot, Kember's Eyot and sometimes referred to as Benn's Ait, is a private 0.1-acre (0.040 ha) ait (island) on the River Thames south-west of London. It is among a string of narrow islands above Molesey Lock and due to its clubhouse and size — the second-smallest named island on the Thames — it has deep foundation pilings to raise the building more than 1 m above the water line.

Garrick's Temple to Shakespeare is a small garden folly erected in 1756 on the north bank of the River Thames at Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Grade I listed, it was built by the actor David Garrick to honour the playwright William Shakespeare, whose plays Garrick performed to great acclaim throughout his career. During his lifetime Garrick used it to house his extensive collection of Shakespearean relics and for entertaining his family and guests. It passed through a succession of owners until coming into public ownership in the 1930s, but it had fallen into serious disrepair by the end of the 20th century. After a campaign supported by distinguished actors and donations from the National Lottery's "good causes" fund, it was restored in the late 1990s and reopened to the public as a museum and memorial to the life and career of Garrick. It is reputedly the world's only shrine to Shakespeare.

Astoria is a grand houseboat, built in 1911 for impresario Fred Karno and adapted as a recording studio in the 1980s by its new owner, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. It is moored on the River Thames at Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Gilmour purchased the boat in 1986, because he "spent half of [his] life in recording studios with no windows, no light, but on the boat there are many windows, with beautiful scenery on the outside".

Hurst Park Club Ground is a cricket ground in East Molesey, Surrey. The ground formerly occupied the round area inside Hurst Park Racecourse. The first recorded match was in 1890 when it hosted its only first-class match between Hurst Park Club and the touring Australians. The ground moved to the far east of the park. 93 years later, Surrey played a single List-A match at the ground against Northamptonshire.In local domestic cricket, the ground is the home venue of East Molesey Cricket Club. The pavilion at the ground was constructed in the 1950s.

St Mary's Parish Church, Hampton, is an Anglican church in Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
