Fox Amport

Amport House is a country house near the village of Amport, Andover, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building. The house was built in 1857 by John Paulet, 14th Marquess of Winchester. After being requisitioned during the Second World War, the house had various military uses and was the home of the Armed Forces Chaplaincy Centre until March 2020, when it was sold by the Ministry of Defence.

East Cholderton is a hamlet in the civil parish of Amport in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. Its nearest town is Andover which lies approximately 4.5 miles (6.7 km) east from the village, just off the A303 road.

Thruxton is just off the A303 road five miles (8.0 km) west of Andover. It is a village with a Manor House, thatched cottages and village green. Pillhill Brook runs from Thruxton Down through the grounds of the Manor House and along the village street to Mullen's Pond, a natural habitat for many species of migratory birds and wild plants.

Royal Air Force Thruxton or more simply RAF Thruxton is a former Royal Air Force station located 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Andover, Hampshire. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. During the war Thruxton was used primarily as a combat fighter airfield. However, paratroops who participated in the Bruneval raid (Operation Biting) in which German radar technology was captured took off from here in Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bombers on the evening of 27 February 1942. Also, gliders used in the D-day landings operated from here. After the war it was closed in 1946. Today the site is occupied by the Thruxton Circuit. It remains an active aerodrome at the same time, now named Thruxton Aerodrome.

Grateley is a village and civil parish in the north west of Hampshire, England. The name is derived from the Old English grēat lēah, meaning 'great wood or clearing'.The village is divided into two distinct settlements, 0.75 miles (1.21 km) apart: the old village and a newer settlement built around the railway station on the West of England Main Line. The hamlet of Palestine adjoins the railway station settlement, although it is located in the civil parish of Over Wallop.Grateley lies just to the south of the prehistoric hill fort of Quarley Hill. The parish covers 1,551 acres (6.28 km2) with 616 people living in 250 dwellings. The village has one pub, a thirteenth-century church dedicated to St Leonard, a primary school, a school for children with Asperger syndrome, a railway station, a small business park, a golf driving range, and is surrounded by farmland with ancient footpaths and droveways. King Æthelstan issued his first official law code in Grateley in about 930 AD. Recorded in the early 12th century Quadripartitus text, which referred to a ‘great assembly at Grateley’ (magna synodo apud Greateleyam). The legestaive assembly and construct of the Grateley law code acted as a manifestation of the peripatetic nature of Anglo-Saxon kingship.In the 20th century Grateley was one of many ammunition dumps during the World Wars.The economic history of Grateley is agricultural, but less than 10% of the village population now rely upon agriculture as an occupation.

Quarley is a village and civil parish in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. It is about 7 mi (11 km) west of Andover and according to the 2001 census had a population of 161, reducing to 150 at the 2011 Census. An Iron Age hillfort, Quarley Hill, lies immediately to the southwest.

Thruxton Aerodrome (ICAO: EGHO) is located in Thruxton, 4.5 NM (8.3 km; 5.2 mi) west of Andover, in Hampshire, England. The airfield was opened in 1942 as RAF Thruxton. Postwar, it was reopened by the Wiltshire School of Flying in 1947, and private and club flying operations continue to the present time. Thruxton Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P544) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee, Western Air (Thruxton) Limited.Motorbike racing began on a track using the runways and perimeter roads in 1950. Thruxton Circuit, which follows the line of the perimeter road, has been used for motorbike and car racing since 1968.Many air cadets were trained here on Flying Scholarships and gained their PPLs. The training was carried out by the Wiltshire School of Flying on DH.82 Tiger Moth and Jackaroo aircraft.

The Thruxton Circuit is a 2.356 mi (3.792 km) motor-racing circuit located near the village of Thruxton in Hampshire, England, United Kingdom, about 30 miles north of Southampton. It has hosted motorsport events including the British Touring Car Championship, British GT Championship, British Formula One Championship, British Formula Three, and GB3 Championship. It is often referred to as the "Fastest Circuit in the UK" where drivers can reach speeds of over 190 mph (300 km/h) and has earned the reputation of being a true driver's track. To illustrate this, Damon Hill drove his Williams Formula One car around the circuit at an average speed of 147 mph (237 km/h) in 1993. The site also houses the headquarters of the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC).

The Hawk Conservancy Trust is a bird park and conservation charity that cares for and displays birds of prey. It is located in Weyhill, Hampshire, England, near to the A303 road and the town of Andover. The site is home to more than 130 birds of prey and it spans 22 acres of woodland and wildflower meadow. Founded as a zoo by local farmer Reg Smith and his wife Hilary, the park was incorporated as the Hawk Conservancy Trust in 2002. It is also the site of the National Bird of Prey Hospital, a veterinary hospital that takes in injured birds of prey. The Hawk Conservancy Trust funds its charitable work mainly from the running of its bird of prey visitor centre. In 2016, a male secretarybird that was kept at the Hawk Conservancy Trust was studied by researchers. They tested its kicking ability with experiments. The findings had implications for studying how other species move, including extinct birds. It was also suggested that this type of research about extreme examples of animal movement could help design fast-moving robot limbs or prosthetics.
