Bradfield, Essex

Bradfield railway station served the village of Bradfield in Essex. It was on the Manningtree to Harwich branch line, which is today known as The Mayflower Line. It closed in 1956. Consisting of just two through platforms it had no sidings for working local goods traffic, which was the normal scenario in rural East Anglia. The station buildings on the up platform were particularly splendid for a very small station and were captured by the well known and popular transport artist Malcolm Root FGRA. The facilities on the down platform were very modest by comparison. The station had a very restricted catchment area and with a local population of just 730 in 1901 and 811 in 1961, passenger numbers were always very limited. A level crossing at the west end of the station was controlled by a signal box on the up side with just 12 levers.

Wrabness Nature Reserve is a 27 hectare Local Nature Reserve on the south bank of the River Stour, west of Wrabness in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.This site has grassland, marsh, scrub and woodland. It has a diverse bird life, such as yellowhammers, whitethroats, song thrushes and short-eared owls. There are also winter visitors including black-tailed godwits, grey plovers and turnstones. Plants include corn mints and hairy buttercups, and there is a wide variety of invertebrates. The grassland is grazed to prevent the vegetation from becoming too coarse.There is access from Whitesheaf Lane.

St Mary's Church is a Grade II listed Anglican parish church in the village of Wix, Essex, England. Formerly associated with a priory from the Middle Ages, the present church dates largely from the 18th century.

Wix Priory was a Benedictine nunnery in Wix, Essex, England, founded in around 1125–1135 and dissolved in 1525. The buildings have not survived except for the priory church, which is still in existence as St Mary's Church, Wix.

Priory Halt railway station served the district of Tendring, Essex, England, from 1920 to 1965 on the Mayflower Line.

Oakfield Wood is a 2.8-hectare (6.9-acre) nature reserve west of Wrabness in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.This is former farmland which is being converted into a "green burial ground", overlooking the Stour Estuary. A native broadleaved tree is planted for each burial with a wooden plaque at the base. When the burial ground is full, it will be managed by the trust as a nature reserve.There is access to the site carpark from Wheatsheaf Lane by a track which leads through Wrabness Nature Reserve carpark.

Wix is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of north-east Essex, England. It lies in a small valley about 2 miles (3 km) south of the Stour Estuary. The valley drains east towards Harwich. Formerly an important crossroads on the route to Harwich, it has now been bypassed by the A120 road. The place-name 'Wix' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Wica. It appears as Wikes in 1191 in the Feet of Fines, and as Wiches in the Curia Regis Rolls in 1198. The name is the plural of the Old English 'wic', meaning a dairy farm.St Mary's Church, Wix has a detached belfry, which stands in the churchyard and contains one bell. In 1961, the then owner of Wix Abbey Farm was ploughing in the church which was overgrown when he struck a large piece of dressed limestone, which with further investigation revealed a large stone coffin with a skeleton inside. Archaeologists were called in and dated the coffin to circa 1140, due to the decorative cross on the lid having Saxon influences. The skeleton is very likely that of Alexander de Wix, a founder of Wix Priory, which occupied the church grounds until the 12th century. This coffin is now on show, or was until recently on display in Colchester Castle. An almost identical but slightly smaller coffin from the same site can be found in the bellhouse, in the churchyard. There is one pub, The Waggon at Wix, which on Saturday evenings has live bands. There is also a village shop in Colchester Road next to Anglian Timber. There is an equestrian centre in Clacton Road which hosts dressage, show jumping and carriage driving.

Stutton is a small village and a civil parish approximately seven miles south of Ipswich in Suffolk, United Kingdom, on the Shotley peninsula. The village has two pubs, a community shop, a primary school, a village hall, a vets and a hair salon, an 18th-century period self-catering holiday cottage, bed and breakfast, and a holistic therapy centre. The village church of St. Peter's lies almost a mile from the village centre. The village is home to Stutton Hall, a 16th-century Tudor house. Stutton Hall was built by Sir Edmund Jermy (Knight) c. 1550. The hall is a red-brick house composed of an older east wing and a newer west wing. Stutton is surrounded by farming country. Close to the village lies Alton Water reservoir, popular for windsurfing and sailing, and about two miles east of Stutton in the neighbouring village of Holbrook is the Royal Hospital School. Stutton has two pubs: the Kings Head and the Gardeners Arms. They are both bars and restaurants.

Bradfield Heath is a village in Essex, England. It is located in between the A120 road and the B1352 road. It is the location of the former Bradfield Hall, which was demolished c.1955. Bradfield Hall was the home of Sir John Raynsford (c.1482-1559) (MP for Colchester and High Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire for 1537–38) and Sir Harbottle Grimston, 1st Baronet (c.1569–1648) (MP for Harwich and Essex and also High Sheriff). Sir Harbottle was a leading Parliamentarian during the Civil War.

Wrabness is a small village and civil parish near Manningtree, Essex, England. The village is located six miles (10 km) west of Harwich. Wrabness railway station is served by trains on the Mayflower Line. Wrabness had a population of approximately 400.
