St Bartholomew's Church, Richard's Castle

Richard's Castle is a village, castle and two civil parishes on the border of the counties of Herefordshire and Shropshire in England. The Herefordshire part of the parish had a population of 250 at the 2011 Census, the Shropshire part, 424. The village lies on the B4361 road, 5+1⁄2 miles (8.9 km) south of the historic market town of Ludlow. It is a dispersed settlement, with an older core near the castle, 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km) to the north-west of the larger main part of the village which is on the B4361. On the B4361 is the village hall, and The Castle Inn traditional public house.

High Vinnalls is a hill in the English county of Herefordshire, though commonly considered a member of the Shropshire Hills. It is located in the parish of Pipe Aston, near the town of Ludlow, and is covered by Mortimer Forest (and ancient hunting forest). The Mortimer Trail runs for 30 miles (48 km) between Ludlow and Kington and passes over High Vinnalls.Before the Norman Conquest of 1066, High Vinnalls marked the western edge of the manor of Richard's Castle. The Mortimer family were then the Norman lords of the region for around 300 years.

Moor Park School is a coeducational preparatory day and boarding school in the village of Richard's Castle, near Ludlow, England. It educates about 300 children and is located within the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

Orleton is a small village and civil parish in northern Herefordshire, England, at grid reference SO493672. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 794. The village is midway between the market towns of Ludlow and Leominster, both 5 miles (8.0 km) away. The village church is dedicated to St George, and contains a Norman nave, 14th-century stained-glass windows, and a 13th-century west tower. The c.1200 door was moved and reset, The early 13th-century chancel has lancet windows. The tie-beam roof may be 14th century. The vestry is Victorian. Fittings include a c.1100 Norman font with nine disciples standing under arches, a 17th-century Jacobean pulpit, two thirteenth-century dug-out chests, a clock dating from about 1700, and a Norman carving of a dragon, later used as a clock weight. The 13th-century Bishop of Hereford, Adam Orleton, took his name from this village, may have been born here, and was a constant supporter of Roger Mortimer, the lord of the manor.

Mortimer Forest is a forest on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border in England, near the town of Ludlow. It covers hilly terrain, including the marilyn of High Vinnalls, rising to 375 metres (1,230 ft).

Overton is a small village in south Shropshire, England. Overton lies west of the River Teme, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of the town of Ludlow and close to the border with Herefordshire. The B4361 (until 1979 the A49) road runs through. It is in the civil parish of Richard's Castle (Shropshire), the village to its south. In the Domesday Book it is recorded as the manor of Avretone, which included Richard's Castle. This manor at the time was recorded as belonging to the hundred of Cutestornes, a hundred of Herefordshire. Around the time of Henry I (1100-1139) the hundreds of Shropshire were greatly reformed and the hundred of Munslow was created; this hundred took in Overton.

Pipe Aston is a small village and civil parish in the far north of Herefordshire, close to the border with Shropshire. It has a population of about 24.It is situated on the Wigmore to Ludlow road. National Cycle Network route 44 passes through, en route between Ludlow and Leominster. The village is just north of Elton. Mortimer Forest is in the vicinity and the High Vinnalls hill is in the parish. The village features the 12th century St Giles parish church.

Elton is a hamlet and civil parish in the far north of Herefordshire. It is situated on the Wigmore to Ludlow road. The village is northeast of Leinthall Starkes and south of Pipe Aston. National Cycle Network route 44 passes through, en route between Ludlow and Leominster.

The Woofferton transmitting station is owned and operated by Encompass Digital Media, as one of the BBC's assets which were handed over as part of the privatization of World Service distribution and transmission in 1997. It is the last remaining UK shortwave broadcasting site, located at Woofferton, south of Ludlow, Shropshire, England. The large site spreads across into neighbouring Herefordshire. The station was originally built by the BBC during World War II to house additional shortwave (HF) broadcasting transmitters. When it officially started broadcasting on 17 October 1943 it had six 50 kW RCA transmitters, obtained by lend-lease. The site has been modernised many times over the years and is now DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) capable providing daily digital radio programmes. Woofferton is used to broadcast shortwave radio programmes on HF 4 MHz – 26 MHz to Europe, Russia, North/Central Africa, Middle East and South America for BBC World Service, Deutsche Welle, Voice of America, and Voice of Vietnam, among other international broadcasters. The site is also used for satellite communications and monitoring.

The Elan aqueduct crosses Wales and the Midlands of England, running eastwards from the Elan Valley Reservoirs in Mid Wales to Birmingham's Frankley Reservoir, carrying drinking water for Birmingham.It delivers enormous quantities of water by gravity across the mid-Wales countryside, through north Herefordshire, south Shropshire and into the West Midlands through eleven major river valleys. The aqueduct is 73 miles (117 km) long, down which the water travels at less than two miles per hour (3 km/h), taking one and a half days to get to Birmingham.

Ashford Bowdler is a small village and civil parish in south Shropshire, England, near the county border with Herefordshire.

Woofferton railway station was a station and railway junction near Woofferton, Shropshire, England, where the Tenbury Railway joined the Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway (S&HR). The station opened on 6 December 1853 as part of the southern extension of the S&HR from Ludlow to Hereford. It became a junction station in August 1861 when the Tenbury Railway (operated by the S&HR) opened a 5-mile branch line. In August 1864 the GWR-operated Tenbury and Bewdley Railway opened, completing the 'Wyre Forest Line' to Bewdley. In 1889 a bay platform, known as the "Back Platform", was added to serve the Wyre Forest Line. This was accessed via two diamond crossings in the main lines and continued in use until being removed in 1957.The station closed on 31 July 1961, the same date as the closure of the former Tenbury Railway. The line through the station, the Welsh Marches Line, remains in use.
