Crosshill and Codnor railway station was a railway station which served the villages of Crosshill and Codnor in Derbyshire, England It was opened in 1890 by the Midland Railway on its branch between Langley Mill on the Erewash Valley Line and Ripley

Butterley Tunnel is a 3,083-yard (2,819 m) disused canal tunnel on the Cromford Canal below Ripley, in Derbyshire, England, opened to traffic in 1794. Along with Butterley Works blast furnaces, part of the canal tunnel and its underground wharf were declared a scheduled monument in 2013.

Waingroves is a large village in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England, approximately two miles away from the town of Ripley. It is in the civil parish of Codnor. In woodland to the south of the village, there are remains of a colliery site.

Golden Valley is a small hamlet in Derbyshire, England. It is between the larger villages of Codnor and Riddings, and near Ironville and Codnor Park to the east. There was once a road to Ripley, but this is now disused. It is best known for the now derelict Cromford Canal, being at the eastern portal of Butterley Tunnel, from which the canal merges into Codnor Park Reservoir, which has an unexploded German bomb from World War II marooned at the bottom. The Pinxton arm of the canal also starts at Golden Valley. It is also known for its picturesque cottages on the canalside, which were originally built to accommodate miners, and also the Newlands Inn, which closed down in 2007 and is currently in a state of disrepair. On 6 August 2011, a fire broke out and the building was gutted. As of 2018, the site still remains derelict.

The Ripley Academy was a founding member, along with the West Bridgford School.In the late 1990s, under the leadership of headmaster Tony Stephens, Mill Hill School had a good reputation, with around 60% of students scoring 5 or more GCSE grades A*-C.

The school was formed from the combination of Benjamin Outrams Comprehensive School and Ripley Technical School and became known as Mill Hill School. The school gained specialist status in English. Prior to this, Mill Hill specialised in the Media and liberal arts curriculum in 2009. Mill Hill School converted to academy status in September 2014 and became The Ripley Academy.

Swanwick Hall School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Swanwick, Alfreton, Derbyshire, England. In 2004 Ofsted noted that the school had strong university links and had Training School status.It was formerly a country house belonging to the local Wood family.
