Maungataketake

Ihumātao is an archeological site of historic importance in the suburb of Māngere, Auckland. Once a pā site, it stands on the Ihumātao Peninsula, at the base of Ōtuataua, part of the Auckland volcanic field. Its scoria cone reaches 64 metres (210 ft) above sea level. Māori first settled in the area as early as the 14th century CE. During the Invasion of the Waikato in 1863, the local Māori had their land confiscated by the New Zealand government as punishment for supporting the Kīngitanga movement. The name Ihumātao translates as "cold nose".The land was largely used for farming until late 2016 when the construction-management company Fletcher Building acquired the site as part of a housing-development project. A group of local activists, led by Pania Newton, opposed the development of the site and staged protests and an occupation of the land over the next three years. In December 2021, the site was purchased by the government with the proposal that it be used for housing purposes. As of July 2022 a steering committee to decide on the future of the land was still being appointed.

Pukeiti is one of the volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field. The spatter cone is the smallest volcano in Auckland, reaching 30 metres (98 ft) above sea level, and has a shallow crater over 30 metres (98 ft) wide. The crater rim was quarried on the south and east side. Extensive lava poured out from this vent to form a lava flow field to the north and east. It is now part of the Otuataua Stonefields reserve. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "cabbage tree hill" for Pukeitī.

The Oruarangi Creek is a stream in Māngere, in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows from Māngere into the Manukau Harbour.

Villa Maria Estate is one of New Zealand's wine companies. Their vineyards are located throughout New Zealand, with production bases in Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Marlborough and Auckland.Sir George Fistonich founded the company in 1961, upon leasing a 5-hectare (12-acre) plot of land on Kirkbride Road in Mangere, Auckland from his parents. The company relocated to a larger site on Montgomerie Road in the same suburb. In 2021 the company was bought by Indevin.

Waitomokia (also Moerangi, Gabriel Hill or Mount Gabriel) is a volcano in the Auckland volcanic field. Waitomokia's 600 m (2,000 ft) wide tuff crater contained three small scoria cones up to 20 m (66 ft) high, one with a crater, which were quarried in the 1950s.

Puketutu Island, also known as Te Motu a Hiaroa, is a volcanic island in the Manukau Harbour, New Zealand, and is part of the Auckland volcanic field. European settlers called it Weekes' Island, but this was eventually abandoned in favour of the historical Māori name. The island is joined to the mainland via a causeway known as Te Ara Tāhuna. Te Motu a Hiaroa means "the island of Hiaroa" in reference to an ancestor who arrived on the island after journeying on the Tainui waka. Puketutu refers to one of the several maunga (mountains) and puke (hills) on the island. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "tutu shrub hill" for Puketutu.

The Statue of Jean Batten is located outside Auckland International Airport, New Zealand, and honours the life of New Zealand aviator Jean Batten. The bronze statue is the work of Anthony Stones. It was unveiled on 5 October 1989 by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Paul Reeves. It depicts Batten holding flowers in her left arm and waving with her right.

Airport Oaks is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand, located north of the Auckland Airport boundaries. It is mainly commercial, with warehousing, some hotels and changes into residential towards the north. The suburb is in the Manukau ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland Council.

Auckland Airport (Māori: Taunga Rererangi o Tāmaki-Makaurau) (IATA: AKL, ICAO: NZAA) is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand, with over 16 million passengers in the year ended August 2023. The airport is located near Māngere, a residential suburb, and Airport Oaks, a service-hub suburb 21 kilometres (13 mi) south of the Auckland city centre. It is a domestic and international hub for Air New Zealand, and the New Zealand hub of Jetstar. The airport is one of New Zealand's most important infrastructure assets, providing thousands of jobs for the region. It handled 71 per cent of New Zealand's international air passenger arrivals and departures in 2000. It is one of only two commercial airports in New Zealand that can handle Boeing 747 or Airbus A380 aircraft (the other being Christchurch). The airport has a single 3,535 m (11,598 ft) runway, 05R/23L, which is Cat IIIb capable (at a reduced rate of movements) in the 23L direction. It has a capacity of about 45 flight movements per hour, and is currently the busiest single-runway airport in Oceania. In November 2007 work began on a new northern runway, to be built in several stages and to be used mainly by smaller aircraft, freeing up capacity on the main runway. The project was delayed several times and as of 2023 no date has been announced for its completion. Auckland Int'l Airport currently covers 1,500 hectares (5.8 sq. miles) of airport property.Currently there are two terminals: International and Domestic. In 2023 the airport announced plans for all jet flights to use a single, expanded terminal, with turboprops continuing to use the domestic terminal.

On 4 July 1966 an Air New Zealand Douglas DC-8-52 with the registration ZK-NZB crashed on takeoff on a routine training flight from Auckland International Airport killing 2 of the 5 crew on board.

Butterfly Creek is a wildlife facility located adjacent to Auckland Airport, Auckland, New Zealand. Situated on approximately 8 acres of land, it was initially established a walk-through butterfly garden (the butterfly house remaining the flagship attraction of the place) and has now expanded to having a number of both native and exotic animal species including two saltwater crocodiles (the only two of their species to be kept in New Zealand) named Goldie and Scar who were brought from Australia in 2009 after initially being removed from the wild by wildlife authorities after concerns for locals and livestock in the area. The park has become regarded as a secondary zoo for people living in the Auckland city region as-well as a tourist attraction for visiting domestic and international visitors due to its location near the airport. Another feature of the park stated to be a significant drawcard of visitation is lifelike replicas of extinct and mythical creatures such as the extinct moa bird of New Zealand, animatronic models of dinosaurs and models of some mythical creatures. These like the wildlife residence are exhibited throughout the gardens of the park.

Māngere Lagoon is a lagoon in the Manukau Harbour, New Zealand. It occupies a volcanic crater or maar which is part of the Auckland volcanic field. Oval and about 600m long, it has a small restored scoria island remaining in the centre.
