Greensted Green

Epping and Ongar Rural District was a rural district in the county of Essex, England from 1955 to 1974.

Clatterford End is hamlet in the civil parish of Stanford Rivers, and in the Epping Forest District of Essex, England. The hamlet is situated between the parish villages of Toot Hill and Stanford Rivers. It should not be confused with Clatterford End, Fyfield or Clatterford End, High Easter.

Blake Hall is a disused former station on the London Underground in the civil parish of Stanford Rivers, and south from the village of Bobbingworth in Essex. It was latterly on the Central line, between North Weald and Ongar, but was originally served by the Epping to Ongar shuttle service branch line.It was opened in 1865 and named after Blake Hall, a country house located a mile or so to the northeast and inhabited by a family of substantial local land-owners. The station was closed in 1981.

Greensted Church, in the small village of Greensted, near Chipping Ongar in Essex, England, has been claimed to be the oldest wooden church in the world, and probably the oldest wooden building in Europe still standing, albeit only in part, since few sections of its original wooden structure remain. The oak walls are often classified as remnants of a palisade church or, more loosely, as a kind of early stave church, dated either to the mid-9th or mid-11th century. The Grade I listed building lies about a mile west of Chipping Ongar town centre. Its full title is The Church of St Andrew, Greensted-juxta-Ongar. It is, however, commonly known simply as Greensted Church. Greensted is still a functioning church and holds services every week.

Hundred of Ongar was an ancient hundred in the west of the county of Essex, England. Hundred of Ongar was centred on the town of Chipping Ongar. Stanford Rivers is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The parish, which is approximately 11 miles (18 km) west from the county town of Chelmsford, contains the village of Toot Hill and the hamlet of Little End, both settlements larger than Stanford Rivers village, and the hamlet of Clatterford End. The village is 2.0 miles (3 km) south-east of Chipping Ongar, 3 miles (5 km) south-west of North Weald Bassett and 3 miles north-west of Kelvedon Hatch. The parish covers an area of 1,749 hectares. The nearest London Underground station to the village is Epping, 5 miles (8 km) to the west, the terminus of the Central line. Harlow Town Station, a National Rail station operated by Greater Anglia, is 8 miles (13 km) to the northwest.

Greensted is a village and (as Greenstead) a former civil parish, now in the parish of Ongar, Essex, England, strung out along the Greensted Road approximately one mile to the west of Chipping Ongar. In 1961 the parish had a population of 711.

Toot Hill is a village in the Stanford Rivers civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. It is 2.3 miles (4 km) south-west of Chipping Ongar and 3.5 miles (6 km) east of Epping. Toot Hill is less than a mile from the small hamlet of Clatterford End. The Toot Hill Country Show (held a short distance away at Stanford Rivers) has taken place each year since 1953.

Dial House is a farm cottage situated in south-west Essex, England that has been a self-sustaining anarcho-pacifist open house since 1967. The house is located in the countryside of Epping Forest in Ongar Great Park. It has been used as a base for a number of cultural, artistic, and political projects ranging from avant-garde jazz events to helping found the free festival movement. Perhaps the best-known manifestation of the public face of Dial House was the anarcho-punk band Crass. Following the DIY punk ethic, Crass combined the use of song, film, sound collage, and graphics to launch a critical polemic against a mainstream which they considered to be built on foundations of war, religion, and consumerism.

Blake Hall is a country house within the civil parish of Bobbingworth, to the northwest of Chipping Ongar, in the county Essex, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II* listed building, and its park and garden are Grade II listed.

Bobbingworth is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The village is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-west from Chipping Ongar, 10 miles (16 km) west from the county town of Chelmsford, and lies off the A414 road. Bobbingworth is in the parliamentary constituency of Brentwood & Ongar. Bobbingworth covers an area of 2,595 acres (10.50 km2). According to the 2011 Census the parish had a population of 280.A notable building in Bobbingworth is Blake Hall, which, after the bombing of the North Weald Aerodrome in September 1940 (during the Second World War) became the R.A.F. Station Headquarters. Blake Hall tube station, now closed and to the south of the village, was named after the building.
