St Olaves Priory, Herringfleet

St Olaves was a station in St. Olaves. It was on the Great Eastern Railway between Great Yarmouth and London. It was first opened in June 1859. After just over a century it was closed in November 1959 when the connection it stood on was cut, and services transferred to another route to make roughly the same journey. Today St Olaves is most closely served by Haddiscoe railway station, which is over the two rivers which separate the two villages.

St Olaves is a village in the English county of Norfolk. The village is situated on the River Waveney, 6 miles (10 km) south-west of the town of Great Yarmouth and the same distance north-west of the Suffolk town of Lowestoft. It is within The Broads national park.Today the village forms part of the civil parish of Fritton and St Olaves, which in turn is within the district of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. Prior to local government reorganisation in 1974 however, the village was part of the parish of Herringfleet in the Lothingland Rural District of Suffolk.St Olaves Bridge, a suspension bridge, is the first bridging point on the Waveney above Great Yarmouth. Haddiscoe railway station, on the Wherry Lines service between Norwich and Lowestoft, is across the bridge approximately 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from the centre of the village. St Olaves used to have its own railway station, which closed in 1959. The village is the location of the remains of a 13th-century Augustinian priory. St. Olaves Priory was dedicated to St Olav. On the site there are parts of the refectory, cloisters, and the priory mill.

This was the original Haddiscoe railway station serving Haddiscoe, Norfolk. It was opened in 1847 by the Norfolk Railway and closed in 1904. Upon closure it was replaced by Haddiscoe Low Level railway station which was later renamed Haddiscoe railway station and remains open. There was also a station nearby on a higher level known as Herringfleet Junction which later became Haddiscoe High Level and closed in 1959.

Fritton and St Olaves is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The parish comprises the villages of Fritton and St. Olaves, together with the surrounding rural area.The civil parish has an area of 7.63 km2 (2.95 sq mi) and in the 2001 census had a population of 543 in 236 households, the population reducing to 524 at the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, the parish today falls within the district of Great Yarmouth. Prior to the 1974 reorganisation of counties in England the entire area of the parish was part of the Lothingland Rural District of Suffolk, with the St Olaves portion of the parish of Herringfleet and Fritton as a separate parish.

The Yarmouth–Beccles line was a railway line which linked the Suffolk market town of Beccles with the Norfolk coastal resort of Yarmouth. Forming part of the East Suffolk Railway, the line was opened in 1859 and closed 100 years later in 1959.

Haddiscoe railway station (formerly Haddiscoe Low Level) is on the Wherry Lines in Norfolk, England, named after the village of Haddiscoe, some 2 miles (3.2 km) distant, although the village of St Olaves on the other side of the River Waveney is closer.[1] It is 16 miles 11 chains (26 km) down the line from Norwich on the route to Lowestoft and is situated between Reedham and Somerleyton. Its three-letter station code is HAD. It is managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving the station. Haddiscoe station is remote, positioned as it is at the end of a minor road, though it does have a car park.

Haddiscoe High Level was a railway station in Haddiscoe, Norfolk serving the now closed Yarmouth-Beccles Line. It obtained its name due to its close proximity to Haddiscoe railway station which served the Wherry Lines. The station was closed in 1959 at the same time as the line it served.

Fritton is a village and former civil parish in county of Norfolk, England. The village is located 6 miles (9.7 km) south-west of Great Yarmouth and 16 miles (26 km) south-east of Norwich, along the A143 between Gorleston-on-Sea and Haverhill. In 1961 the parish had a population of 192.

Herringfleet Mill or Walker's Mill is a Grade II* listed smock mill at Herringfleet, Suffolk, England, Now in a bad state of repair with two of the 4 sails removed.

Herringfleet is a place and former civil parish in the north of the English county of Suffolk. It is located 5.5 miles (8.9 km) north-west of Lowestoft in the East Suffolk district. The parish was combined with Somerleyton and Ashby to create the parish of Somerleyton, Ashby and Herringfleet in 1987.The western edge of Herringfleet is marked by the River Waveney. Prior to local government reorganisation in 1974, the former parish included the village of St Olaves to the north. This was combined with the parish of Fritton and the new parish of Fritton and St Olaves transferred to the county of Norfolk. Previously the entire area south and east of the Waveney was part of Suffolk.Prior to the loss of St Olaves, the population of the former parish was 262 at the 1961 United Kingdom census. At the 1981 census it was 58 and the current population of Herringfleet is estimated to be around 50. There is no village centre, with the population spread across a number of scattered farms and small settlements. Much of the land within the area of the former parish is owned by the Somerleyton Estate.

Haddiscoe is a village and civil parish in the South Norfolk district of Norfolk, England, about 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Norwich. The parish is on the county boundary with Suffolk, about 7 miles (11 km) west-northwest of Lowestoft. The parish includes the hamlet of Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Haddiscoe village.The civil parish has an area of 19.88 km2 (7.68 sq mi). The 2011 Census recorded its population as 487 people in 210 households.

Somerleyton Swing Bridge is a railway swing bridge over the River Waveney on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. It was built in 1905 to carry the double tracked Norwich to Lowestoft Line over the river, replacing a previous single tracked bridge. It is 400 metres (1,300 ft) west of Somerleyton railway station and near to the Suffolk village of Somerleyton. It is one of only four remaining railway swing bridges crossing rivers in The Broads.
