Notable buildings include the McDaniel-Sutton House (1904), J. C. Raspberry Rental House (c. 1898), Wooten-Black House (1913-1914), George W. Sumrell House (c. 1899), E. T. Turnley House (c. 1925), J. D. Arnold House (c. 1931), and Lizzie Grady House (c. 1912).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Grainger Stadium is a sports venue located in Kinston, North Carolina. It is the home ballpark for the Down East Bird Dawgs, which joined the Frontier League for the 2025 season, as well as the annual Freedom Classic between Navy and Air Force. Grainger was previously home to the Down East Wood Ducks, the Kinston Indians and all the professional Kinston baseball teams since 1949.

It is faced with a limestone veneer and accented by streamlined, stylized ornament. It features a tetrastyle in antis portico of square fluted piers.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad Freight Depot was a historic freight depot located at Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. It was built in 1900 by the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad, and is a two-story Romanesque style building faced in tan brick. It had a standing seam tin gable roof with a monitor roof and 11 freight bays.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 but nevertheless was razed in 2009.

It encompasses 30 contributing buildings in a mixed commercial and industrial section of Kinston. The district is considered a boundary increase to the previously listed Queen-Gordon Streets Historic District. The buildings include notable examples of Art Deco and Romanesque style architecture and date between 1896 and 1941. Notable buildings include the Carolina Theatre (1935), Cash Supply Store Building (c. 1914), Spence Motor Company Building, and Ellis Carriage Factory (1908-1914).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Hotel Kinston is a historic hotel building located at Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. It was built in 1927–1928, and is an 11-story, steel frame Art Deco style building. It is sheathed in red brick with cast stone Moorish stylistic details at the main entrance and top floors. It was operated as a hotel until the 1960s. It houses senior citizen apartments.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

It encompasses 20 contributing buildings in a mixed commercial and industrial section of Kinston. The buildings include notable examples of Classical Revival, Beaux-Arts, and Romanesque style architecture and date between 1895 and the mid-1930s. Notable buildings include the Gordon Street Christian Church (1912-1915), (former) U. S. Post Office/Federal Building (1915), Citizens / First National Bank Building (1903), (former) Farmers and Merchants Bank (1924), Canady Building (1899), and the LaRoque and Hewitt Building (c. 1900).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. The Kinston Commercial Historic District is considered a boundary increase to the Queen–Gordon Streets Historic District.

B. W. Canady House is a historic home located at Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. It was built about 1883, and is a two-story, "L"-shaped, Italianate style frame dwelling. It has a gable roof, gabled two-story projecting central entrance bay, and one-story rear wing. It features a wraparound front porch, pendant eave brackets, a paneled frieze, and tall brick interior chimneys with elaborate panelled stacks and corbelled caps.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Sumrell and McCoy Building is a historic commercial / industrial building located at Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. It was built in 1910, and is a two-story and basement brick structure of heavy post and beam construction, using both wood and steel members. It features a raised parapet, topped by tile coping. The building measures 30,000 square feet and housed a wholesale grocery business.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Hill–Grainger Historic District, also known as the North Queen Street Area, is a national historic district located at Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina, USA. It encompasses 172 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Kinston. The buildings include notable examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture and date between 1900 and 1941. Notable buildings include the (former) Grainger High School, Sarahurst (1902-1904), Vernon Hall (1913-1914), (second) H. C. Hines House (1929), Canady-Sutton House (c. 1925), Hobgood-Sparrow House (1926), (first) H. C. Hines House (c. 1917), and the Fields Rasberry House. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Standard Drug No. 2 is a historic commercial building located in Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. It was built between 1918 and 1924, and is a two-story, brick Commercial Style with street level, plate-glass windows. The interior retains an Art Deco-style lunch counter and pressed metal ceiling. Sit-ins were held at the lunch counter in 1960 and 1961, to protest segregation.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

CSS Neuse was a steam-powered ironclad ram of the Confederate States Navy that served in the latter part the American Civil War and was eventually scuttled to avoid capture by rapidly advancing Union Army forces. In the early 1960s, she produced approximately 15,000 artifacts from her raised lower hull, the largest number ever found on a recovered Confederate vessel. The remains of her lower hull and a selection of her artifacts are on exhibit in Kinston, North Carolina at the CSS Neuse Interpretive Center State Historic Site, which belongs to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The ironclad is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
