Aspetuck Reservoir

The Bradley-Hubbell House is an historic house located at 535 Black Rock Turnpike in Easton, Connecticut. Built in 1816 for Aljah and Elizabeth Bradley, it is a Colonial with a traditional center-chimney plan and a few Federal-style ornaments, including oval windows in the gables, a parlor mantel, and rope molding on the stairs. In 1912, Bradley descendants sold the property to the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company, which flooded much of the farmland for a reservoir and leased the house to Franklin Hubbell (d. 1996), one of its employees. In 1998, the house was donated to the Easton Historical Society, which is restoring it.Two occupants have left memoirs of their life in the house. The first was John Dimon Bradley, son of Aljah and Elizabeth, who described life on what was mainly a subsistence farm in the 19th century. The second was Patricia Hubbell, daughter of Franklin Hubbell, who wrote about her life while she lived in the house between about 1932 and 1954.On April 18, 2003, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The house overlooks the Aspectuck Reservoir.The house is located on Black Rock Turnpike, on which the British marched to Danbury, Connecticut during the American Revolutionary War. However, the house had not yet been constructed at that time.

The Aspetuck River is a 17.0-mile-long (27.4 km) river in the U.S. state of Connecticut. The river rises in the hills located in Huntington State Park in Bethel, with a watershed of approximately 430 acres (170 ha). The river flows generally southerly through Redding, Connecticut, to the Aspetuck Reservoir, and finally into the Saugatuck River in Westport, Connecticut and then into the Long Island Sound. It flows through the village of Aspetuck at an average depth of 2.5 feet (0.76 m). The word Aspetuck can be translated as "river originating at the high place" in an Algonquian language.The Aspetuck Reservoir is fed water diverted from the Saugatuck Reservoir via an underground aqueduct. Water from the Aspetuck Reservoir is also diverted into the Hemlock Reservoir in Easton and Fairfield, which then flows into the Mill River.

Aspetuck is a village, which in Connecticut is an unincorporated community on the Aspetuck River, in Fairfield County, Connecticut, mostly in the town of Easton but extending also into Weston. It is significant for being the location of the Aspectuck Historic District, a well-preserved collection of houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. The area was settled in the 17th century. It was a long-time home of Helen Keller. According to a New York Times real estate section article, "The district gets its name from the Aspetuck Indians, who lived along the river. In 1670, they sold the land to English settlers for cloth, winter wheat and maize valued at $.36." Weston was incorporated in 1787, and Easton was split out and incorporated in 1845.

Trout Brook Valley State Park Reserve is a 300-acre (120 ha) parcel owned by the state of Connecticut that is part of the larger Trout Brook Valley Preserve (also known as the Trout Brook Valley Conservation Area), located in Easton, Connecticut. The full conservation area covers 1,009 acres (408 ha) and comprises several contiguous parcels in the towns of Easton and Weston, bordering the southeast corner of the Saugatuck Reservoir. It is managed by the Aspetuck Land Trust. The state park portion of the preserve offers opportunities for hiking and hunting.

Easton is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 7,605 at the time of the 2020 census. Easton contains the historic district of Aspetuck and the Plattsville census-designated place. Part of the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region, which is in turn a part of the New York metropolitan statistical area, it is bordered by the towns of Fairfield, Connecticut to the south, Redding to the north, Weston to the west, and Monroe and Trumbull to the east. In March 2023, Easton established a sister city relationship with Sviatohirsk, Donetsk, Ukraine.

The Hemlock Reservoir is a reservoir in Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. Its completion was marked by the creation of the Hemlock Reservoir Dam, which was completed in 1914, and provides water to Fairfield, Bridgeport, and several other nearby towns. In 2020, Aquarion Water Co., owner of the reservoir and dam, submitted an application to transfer up to 14.2 million gallons per day of water from the Greater Bridgeport System, primarily including the Hemlock Reservoir system, to the Southwest Fairfield County Region. Critics worry that this would impact the water quality from the reservoir.Largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and rainbow trout are commonly found in the reservoir, but fishing is prohibited.

Union Cemetery is a cemetery located near Stepney Road in Easton, Connecticut. The site dates back to the 1700s. According to ghost hunters, it is one of the "most haunted" cemeteries in the entire United States. Connecticut demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren have written a book about the cemetery entitled Graveyard.

The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary in the Greenfield Hill area of Fairfield, Connecticut. Constructed in 1971, the center features classrooms for environmental education programs, live animals on display, natural history exhibits, a nature library, a solar greenhouse and a gift shop. Outside there is a compound with non-releasable rescued birds of prey, including owls, hawks, peregrine falcons, a turkey vulture and other raptors. The center maintains the 152-acre (0.62 km2) Roy and Margot Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary with 7 miles (11 km) of trails, including the Chiboucas Wheelchair-accessible Trail for the Disabled, a pond observation platform and interpretive signs. The trail habitats include woods, marsh, stream, pond and meadow. Environmental programs are offered for youth, school groups, Scout troops and other organizations, as well as summer camp and after school classes. Issues relating to birds, their habits and related environmental topics are a special focus. The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield is one of five nature centers and 19 wildlife sanctuaries operated by the Connecticut Audubon Society, which is separate from the National Audubon Society. The building is closed on Sundays.

The Saugatuck Reservoir is a reservoir in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, that straddles the border between the towns of Redding, Weston, and Easton. Its completion is marked by the creation of the Samuel P. Senior dam of the Saugatuck River in January 1942, and provides water to several of the nearby towns. The reservoir is surrounded by the Centennial Watershed State Forest and a small section of the Trout Brook Valley State Park Reserve on the southeast end of the reservoir. The Saugatuck Reservoir utilizes an uncontrolled spillway adjacent to the Samuel P. Senior dam that effectively limits the maximum water level. There is also a concrete levee positioned on the southeastern side of the reservoir that prevents water from flooding Trout Brook Valley. Bridgeport Hydraulic Company Holdings (now owned by Aquarion) flooded the Saugatuck River Valley after 1938, removing the villages of Hull and Valley Forge to create the Saugatuck Reservoir.Aquarion Water Co., owner of the reservoir and dam, allows tailrace fishing in one area at the Weston end of the reservoir, where it has constructed a handicapped-access area. However, anglers must obtain a permit from Aquarion before fishing in the Saugatuck.The Saugatuck is the largest of the eight reservoirs that make up Aquarion’s greater Bridgeport water system. The Bradley Edge Tool Company Historic District encompasses the surviving remnants of a historic 19th-century industrial village in Weston, Connecticut. Extending along Lyons Plain Road near White Birch Road and the Saugatuck River, the area was home to the Bradley Edge Tool Company, which flourished here between 1834 and 1870. The principal surviving elements are residences which were built for the owners and workers of the company; the factory itself burned in 1911. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Murray is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the northern part of Fairfield, with Burr Street running north–south through the center of the CDP. The Merritt Parkway crosses the CDP from east to west, with access from Exit 44 (CT 58, Black Rock Turnpike) at the eastern edge of the community. Murray was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Centennial Watershed State Forest is a Connecticut state forest of more than 15,000 acres with larger parcels located in the towns of Easton, Newtown, Redding, and Weston. Dozens of other properties are strung throughout much of Southwestern part of the state. In 2002, the lands were acquired from the Aquarion Water Company by the state in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. Those three entities continue to manage the property by committee. The forest was named in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the state forest system.
