Sutton Wick

The Sutton Wick air crash occurred on 5 March 1957 when a Blackburn Beverley C Mk 1 heavy transport aircraft, serial number XH117, of 53 Squadron Royal Air Force crashed at Sutton Wick, Drayton, Berkshire, England, following a shut-down of one engine and partial loss of power on another. Shortly after take-off, No. 1 engine was shut down as a precautionary measure then whilst on final approach back to RAF Abingdon, No. 2 engine failed to respond to throttle inputs. The aeroplane struck cables and trees 18 minutes after lifting off. Of 17 passengers and five crew aboard, all but four were killed in the accident. Two people on the ground were also killed. An investigation found that a non-return valve in the fuel system had been installed the wrong way round causing two of the engines to be starved of fuel. The technician found responsible for incorrectly fitting the valve was charged under the Air Force Act. Following the accident, the non-return valve was re-designed so it could not be installed incorrectly.Two RAF officers who took part in the rescue after the crash were highly praised for "refusing to give up while there was hope of finding survivors among the wreckage."

Caldecott is a suburb of Abingdon in Oxfordshire, England. Caldecott was formerly part of Sutton Wick but is now part of Abingdon. Unlike northern Abingdon, Caldecott was not built until the late 19th century (then part of Sutton Wick). for this reason, when examining the river bank at the Cast Iron bridge and the roads either side, you can see how the foundation switch from the old mid 18th century foundations to the much more modern ones. Caldecott has, in recent years, grown a reputation for being a haven for the delinquent youth. the growth of council funded households in central Caldecott during the 1980s greatly contributed to such a reputation.

McTimoney College of Chiropractic is a chiropractic college, is part of the College of Health and validated by Ulster University in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. Alongside the University of South Wales and Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, the college is one of only three United Kingdom institutions to offer degrees recognized by the General Chiropractic Council, and the only one to specialize in programmes for those wishing to study while working. They offer an Integrated Undergraduate Master's degree in Chiropractic and two postgraduate Masters programmes in Animal Manipulation, plus a postgraduate Masters in Paediatric Chiropractic. Graduates of the Chiropractic degrees are eligible to register with the General Chiropractic Council, the UK Statutory Regulator. The college was founded as the Oxfordshire School of Chiropractic by John McTimoney. Graduates of the college make up a quarter of the UK's chiropractors. Steventon is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, England, about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Abingdon and a similar distance west of Didcot. It lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Berkshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 1,485.

Steventon railway station was built when the Great Western Railway extended their main line from Reading to the village of Steventon, opening the line on 1 June 1840. Two months later, on 20 July, it was extended to Faringdon Road, and in December of that year, to Swindon.

Shippon is a village in Oxfordshire, England, 1 mile west of Abingdon. It is the largest village in the civil parish of St. Helen Without, in Vale of White Horse District. It was in Berkshire until it was transferred to Oxfordshire in 1974. The Dalton Barracks are located in the village. The name was recorded in the Domesday Book as Scipene, meaning "cattle-shed". It was a manor in the large parish of St Helen's, Abingdon, and was held by Abingdon Abbey until the Dissolution in 1538. It was then acquired by the Duchy of Cornwall, which still owns it. Shippon became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1865. The parish church of St Mary Magdalene was built in 1855 to a design of Gilbert Scott.

Abingdon Rowing Club is a rowing club on the River Thames based on Wilsham Road in Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.The club's home water is the stretch of the upper Thames between the Abingdon and the Culham locks. The total rowable length of this water stretch is approximately 4 km (3900m).The official club colours are teal-green and gold in accordance with the Abingdon coat of arms. The club badge logo features region peculiar Sika deer winged and above the Abingdon bridge arch holding the two lightnings representing Culham and Harwell science campuses, honouring the academics and professionals who largely constituted and contributed to Abingdon Rowing Club.

Milton Park is a 250-acre (1.0 km2) mixed use business and technology park in Oxfordshire, England, operated by MEPC plc. It is just south of the village of Milton, about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Didcot. It is on the site of a former Ministry of Defence depot between the A34 and Didcot power station. Although closer to Didcot, it lies within the Abingdon postcode area.
