Mount Storm Lake

The Mount Storm Generating Station, located on the west bank of Mount Storm Lake 2 miles (3 km) from Bismarck, West Virginia, United States, is a coal-fired power station owned by Dominion Resources. The facility's three units use around 15,000 tons of coal per day to generate more than 1,600 megawatts of electricity from the coal synfuel for around 2 million people in Northern Virginia.

Stony River Reservoir was constructed on the Stony River in 1888 by Westvaco to supply the source of water for the company's main pulp mill. William Luke's summer residence was located on the lake. The dam suffered from structural weakness and was periodically drained for repairs. The center portion of the dam has since been demolished and the reservoir drained. The majority of the dam still stands on either side of the, now, free flowing river.

Scherr is an unincorporated community in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. The community's name is pronounced like "sheer." Scherr lies to the west of the community of Greenland at the crossroads of West Virginia Route 42, West Virginia Route 93, and U.S. Route 48 (Corridor H). Scherr is home to a rock quarry, asphalt plant, and a small country store. The Scherr Formation is named after this town, and the type locality of the formation is here.The community was named after Arnold C. Scherr, a state official who was instrumental in securing a post office for the town.

Greenland is an unincorporated community between Walker's Ridge and New Creek Mountain on the North Fork Patterson Creek in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. Greenland lies at the western end of Greenland Gap in New Creek Mountain. The community most likely was named for their green land at and around the original town site.

Gormania is an unincorporated community along the North Branch Potomac River in Grant County, West Virginia. Gormania lies on the Northwestern Turnpike (US 50), which crosses the North Branch into Gorman, Maryland via Gormania Bridge. It is named for United States Senator from Maryland, Arthur P. Gorman (March 11, 1839 – June 4, 1906).

Gormania Presbyterian Church, now known as Gormania United Methodist Church, is a historic Presbyterian church on Mabis Avenue, 0.1 miles south of US 50 in Gormania, Grant County, West Virginia. It was built in 1888, and is a single-story ornate wooden structure in a late form of the Gothic Revival style. It features a corner entrance bell tower and tall spire. A rear addition including three Sunday school rooms was built in 1925. It was occupied by a Presbyterian congregation until the 1980s. In 1994, the Gormania United Methodist Church purchased the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Bayard is a town in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 200 at the 2020 census. Bayard was incorporated in 1893 and named in honor of Thomas F. Bayard, Jr., who later became a United States senator from Delaware (1923–1929). Bayard was founded on the West Virginia Central and Pittsburg Railway as a coal mining community. Coal mining has remained the town's chief industry.

Gorman is a census-designated place (CDP) along the North Branch Potomac River in southern Garrett County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, Gorman's population was 106. Gorman lies on Gorman Road (Maryland Route 560) off the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50), which crosses the North Branch into Gormania, West Virginia, via Gormania Bridge. Like Gormania, the town is named for United States Senator from Maryland, Arthur Pue Gorman (March 11, 1839 – June 4, 1906).

The Bayard Bridge is a crossing of the North Branch Potomac River between Grant County, West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland. The bridge takes its name from the town of Bayard at its West Virginia end.

Garrett County () is the westernmost county of the U.S. state of Maryland completely within the Appalachian Mountains. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,806, making it the third-least populous county in Maryland. Its county seat is Oakland. The county was named for John Work Garrett (1820–1884), president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Created from Allegany County in 1872, it was the last county to be formed in the state. The western part of the county, drained by the Youghiogheny River, is the only part of Maryland within the Mississippi River drainage basin. All other parts of the county are in the Chesapeake Bay basin. The National Register of Historic Places listings in Garrett County, Maryland has 20 National Register of Historic Places properties and districts, including Casselman Bridge, National Road a National Historic Landmark. Garrett County is part of Maryland's 6th congressional district. The extreme south of the county lies within the United States National Radio Quiet Zone.

The original county seat of Grant County, Maysville is an unincorporated community on North Fork Lunice Creek in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. The community lies at the eastern approach of Mays Gap in Knobly Mountain along West Virginia Route 42. The community's name is derived from the local Mays or Mayse family.
