Gormania, West Virginia

Gormania Presbyterian Church, now known as Gormania United Methodist Church, is a historic Presbyterian church on Mabis Avenue, 0.1 miles south of US 50 in Gormania, Grant County, West Virginia. It was built in 1888, and is a single-story ornate wooden structure in a late form of the Gothic Revival style. It features a corner entrance bell tower and tall spire. A rear addition including three Sunday school rooms was built in 1925. It was occupied by a Presbyterian congregation until the 1980s. In 1994, the Gormania United Methodist Church purchased the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Gorman is a census-designated place (CDP) along the North Branch Potomac River in southern Garrett County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, Gorman's population was 106. Gorman lies on Gorman Road (Maryland Route 560) off the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50), which crosses the North Branch into Gormania, West Virginia, via Gormania Bridge. Like Gormania, the town is named for United States Senator from Maryland, Arthur Pue Gorman (March 11, 1839 – June 4, 1906).

Garrett County () is the westernmost county of the U.S. state of Maryland completely within the Appalachian Mountains. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,806, making it the third-least populous county in Maryland. Its county seat is Oakland. The county was named for John Work Garrett (1820–1884), president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Created from Allegany County in 1872, it was the last county to be formed in the state. The county is part of the Western Maryland region of the state. Garrett County is bordered by four West Virginia counties and to the north the Maryland–Pennsylvania boundary known as the Mason–Dixon line. The eastern border with Allegany County was defined by the Bauer Report, submitted to Governor Lloyd Lowndes, Jr. on November 9, 1898. The Potomac River and State of West Virginia lie to the south and west. Garrett County lies in the Allegheny Mountains, which here form the western flank of the Appalachian Mountain Range. Hoye-Crest, a summit along Backbone Mountain, is the highest point in Maryland at an elevation of 3,360 feet (1,020 m). The Eastern Continental Divide runs along portions of Backbone Mountain. The western part of the county, drained by the Youghiogheny River, is the only part of Maryland within the Mississippi River drainage basin. All other parts of the county are in the Chesapeake Bay basin. The National Register of Historic Places listings in Garrett County, Maryland has 20 National Register of Historic Places properties and districts, including Casselman Bridge, National Road a National Historic Landmark. Garrett County is part of Maryland's 6th congressional district. The extreme south of the county lies within the United States National Radio Quiet Zone.

Bayard is a town in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 200 at the 2020 census. Bayard was incorporated in 1893 and named in honor of Thomas F. Bayard, Jr., who later became a United States senator from Delaware (1923–1929). Bayard was founded on the West Virginia Central and Pittsburg Railway as a coal mining community. Coal mining has remained the town's chief industry.

The Bayard Bridge is a crossing of the North Branch Potomac River between Grant County, West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland. The bridge takes its name from the town of Bayard at its West Virginia end.

Wilson is an unincorporated community located in both Garrett County, Maryland and Grant County, West Virginia, United States. Wilson is located along the North Branch Potomac River, 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of Bayard. The West Virginia side of Wilson once had a post office, which closed on July 16, 1988. George W. Wilson, an early postmaster, gave the community his name.

Red Oak Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Red Oak Creek was named for the red oak trees which once lined its banks.

Dobbin is an unincorporated community on the North Branch Potomac River in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. Dobbin is located southwest of Bayard on West Virginia Route 90.

Loch Lynn Heights is a town in Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The population was 493 at the 2020 census.

Henry is an unincorporated community on West Virginia Route 90 in northwestern Grant County, West Virginia, United States. Henry lies on Elk Creek shortly before its confluence with the North Branch Potomac River. It is famous for the Henry Bicentennial Chicken Herding Competition. The community was named after Henry G. Davis, a businessman in the mining industry.

Redhouse is an unincorporated community in Garrett County, Maryland, United States, located at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 219 near the West Virginia state line.

Mountain Lake Park Historic District is a national historic district in Mountain Lake Park, Garrett County, Maryland. It consists of a group of 145 buildings lying within the town, which was launched in the 1880s as a summer resort and important as a center of the Chautauqua movement in Maryland. The district still includes many of the houses built by summer residents of town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, built in various interpretations of the "Country Gothic" or Rural Queen Anne styles. Also within the district are several of the educational and recreational buildings constructed by the Mountain Lake Park Association, the Methodist-led group which owned and managed the town for many years after its founding in 1881.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
