Behnke Ranch was a 536-acre ranch near Odessa in Pasco County, Florida. The property was purchased in 2013 by Hines, a development company with its U.S. headquarters in Texas. It was zoned for 550 single-family homes, 200 townhouses, and 440 multi-family apartments, as well as officespace and light industry. The Asturia community was developed on the site.

Located north of Florida State Road 52 inland from Hudson, it is within the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The community was first planned in 1983 to include homes and eponymous golf course, which was later expanded. The clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1995. The community continued to grow into the 2000s, partly on land that had once been a cattle ranch, to have eight 'villages'.Meadow Oaks become a CDP (43785) in 2010 and as of the 2010 census its population was 2,442 It had grown to 2,842 by the 2020 census.

The district includes Citrus County and Hernando County, as well as most of Pasco County, including the places of New Port Richey, Dade City, Spring Hill, and Homosassa Springs. It is one of the largest schools in the Pasco County Schools district. The school opened on August 14, 2000.

Wendell Krinn Technical High School is a four-year public technical high school in New Port Richey, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. It is part of the Pasco County Public School System in Pasco County, Florida. The school opened on August 13, 2018, using the campus of the old Ridgewood High School, which closed in May, 2018. It is named for the first principal of Ridgewood High School. The school will operate as a magnet school, drawing students from throughout Pasco County. They may earn college credits and have career training while obtaining their high school diploma. Specialized courses will include cyber security and BioMedical.

Ridgewood High School was a four-year public high school serving residential suburbs in New Port Richey, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, part of the Pasco County Public School System in Pasco County, Florida. The school was founded on August 22, 1978, as a junior high school with the intent of becoming the third high school in western Pasco County. As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,133 students and 73.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.5:1. There were 787 students (69.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 98 (8.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school closed at the end of the 2017–18 school year for conversion to Wendell Krinn Technical High School, a technical high school named after Ridgewood's first principal, Wendell Krinn. The school's closing ceremony took place on May 22, 2018, and was attended by faculty and alumni. The Tampa Bay Times wrote, "The community is losing its traditional high school, with sports teams and bands and the spirit that comes with sending generations to it."
