Schönau-Berzdorf (German pronunciation: [ˈʃøːnaʊ ˈbɛʁtsˌdɔʁf]) is a municipality in the district Görlitz, in Saxony, Germany.

Markersdorf (Upper Sorbian: Markoćicy) is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony, Germany. Markersdorf is also the former German name of Markocice, a small township in Poland which lies about 25 kilometres directly to the south, near Bogatynia (ex-Reichenau in Saxony).

The Landeskrone (German name; named Sedło in Upper Sorbian) is a hill in Upper Lusatia that is known as the Hausberg or "local hill" of the town of Görlitz. It is situated in eastern Saxony, Germany, close to the eastern border with Poland. On its western side is the municipality of Markersdorf. With a height of 419 metres (1,375 ft) above sea level, the Landeskrone is located southwest of the town of Görlitz and is an excursion destination for overlooking Görlitz and the surrounding area, as well as the Jizera Mountains and Giant Mountains. The Landeskrone was formed as an individually-located volcano in the edge of the Lusatian volcanic field, which is associated with the lowering of the Eger Graben. Human settlement on the hill can be traced back to the later Bronze Age, as evidenced by findings from the Bronze- and Iron-Age Lusatian culture in the area of the 3,000m² so-called upper castle wall. In the time of Slavic settlement, probably around or soon after 900 AD, another semi-circular defence was built on the southern slope of the Landeskrone, in addition to a fortification between the hill's two peaks. The hill was first mentioned in print in 1268, as the "castrum landischkrone". The medieval castle on the Landeskrone was demolished in the 15th century. The oldest part of the current development is an observation tower from 1796.

Lake Berzdorf is located at the southern city limits of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia. It consists of the residual hole of the former Berzdorf open-cast lignite mine, which was flooded from 2002 to the beginning of 2013. The lake forms the southeastern corner of the Lusatian Lake District. With its volume of about 330 million cubic meters and a water depth of max. 72 meters on an area of 960 hectares, it is one of the largest lakes in Saxony. Its name derives from the small village Berzdorf, which was devastated in 1969/70.

The Pließnitz is a river of Saxony, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Lusatian Neisse, which it joins near Görlitz.

The Smědá (Czech pronunciation: [ˈsmɲɛdaː], German: Wittig, Polish: Witka) is a river of the Czech Republic and Poland. A right tributary of the Neisse River with a length of 51.9 km (5.9 km within Poland) and basin area 331 km2 (60 km2 in Poland).The river flows out of the three streams in the Jizera Mountains: Bílá Smědá, Černá Smědá, and Hnědá Smědá, in the Czech Republic. The main of those is considered Bílá Smědá emerging from the peat bogs between Smědavská and Jizera mountains. From the village of Ostróżno to the mouth of the stream Boreczek it is a border river, flows through Niedów Lake (Witka Lake), and escapes to the Neisse River next to the palace in the village Radomierzyce. The final section of the river within the limits of the Czech Republic creates a nature reserve Smědé Meanders (Witka Meanders) to protect the natural landscape of the river valley, rich vegetation and wetland meanders riparian forests. In Poland the name Witka was officially introduced in 1951, replacing the German name Wittig.
