The canton of Mantes-la-Jolie is an administrative division of the Yvelines department, northern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The University Institute of Technology of Mantes en Yvelines (UIT of Mantes en Yvelines, French: Institut universitaire de technologie de Mantes en Yvelines) is one of the French University Institutes of Technology.It is part of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University and located at Mantes-la-Jolie. It trains technicians in two or three years after the Baccalaureate. It allows the preparation of a two-year undergraduate technical diploma called a Diplôme universitaire de technologie (DUT) (Associate of Science) and a three-year undergraduate technical diploma called a Licence professionnelle (professional Bachelor).

It is located in the western suburbs of Paris 48.6 km (30.2 mi) from the center. Mantes-la-Ville is located at the confluence of the Seine and the Vaucouleurs. The Paris–Rouen rail line separates Mantes-la-Ville from the larger commune of Mantes-la-Jolie. The A13 autoroute to Normandy also passes through Mantes-la-Ville.

The medieval Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Mantes, (French: Collégiale Notre-Dame de Mantes-la-Jolie), is a large and historically important Catholic church constructed between c.1155 and 1350 in the small town of Mantes-la-Jolie, about 50 km (30 mi) west of Paris. Although not a cathedral it was built on a cathedral-like scale. Its grandeur, its quirky design and its strong associations with the Capetian dynasty make the church particularly interesting to architectural historians.

It was one of the thirty communes in the Communauté d'agglomération de Mantes-en-Yvelines, merged into the Communauté urbaine Grand Paris Seine et Oise in 2016.

On 13 June 2016, a police officer and his partner, a police secretary, were stabbed to death in their home in Magnanville, France, located about 55 km (34 mi) west of Paris, by a man convicted in 2013 of associating with a group planning terrorist acts. Amaq News Agency, an online outlet said to be sponsored by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), said that a source had claimed that ISIL was behind the attack, an assertion that was later validated.Prosecutor François Molins said the attacker, Larossi Abballa, appeared to be acting on a recent general order from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to "kill miscreants at home with their families" during the month of Ramadan. On 18 June, prosecutors charged two men, on suspicion that Aballa was not acting alone. One of them was released seven months later, in January 2017, under court-supervised parole.
