Rancho San Miguel was a 6,663-acre (26.96 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Sonoma County, California given in 1840 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to William Marcus West. The grant was located north of present-day Santa Rosa, between Mark West Creek and Santa Rosa Creek, and encompassed present-day Mark West and Mark West Springs.

Mark West is an unincorporated community immediately north of Santa Rosa, California in Sonoma County, California, United States. Mark West is located along Mark West Springs Road adjacent to U.S. Highway 101. The community of Mark West is named for Scottish American pioneer William Marcus West.After the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad was extended to Cloverdale in the 1870s, its trains stopped in Mark West.

Sonoma County Airport station is a Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit train station in Santa Rosa, 1.1 miles (1.8 km) east of Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport. It opened to preview service on July 1, 2017; full commuter service commenced on August 25, 2017. Until Phase 2 is completed, this will be the northern terminus of rail service on the line. Phase 1 was originally to extend only to Santa Rosa North, but in 2013 the MTC approved the addition of the airport station adjacent to the SMART Operations and Maintenance Facility.Commute-hour timed-transfer buses connect commuters from as far north as Cloverdale station twice a day in each direction on Sonoma County Transit Line 56. Line 55 offers timed transfers connecting the train to the Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport and to the town of Windsor eight times daily.The station was closed between October 28 and 31, 2019 due to the loss of power at railway crossings as a result of the 2019 California power shutoffs.

Sonoma Water, formerly known as the Sonoma County Water Agency, maintains a water transmission system that provides naturally filtered Russian River water to more than 600,000 residents in portions of Sonoma County, California and Marin County, California. The Water Agency is a water wholesaler that sells potable water to nine cities and special districts that in turn sell drinking water to their residents. These cities and special districts are: the City of Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Petaluma, Sonoma, the Town of Windsor, Valley of the Moon Water District, Marin Municipal Water District, and North Marin Water District.

Larkfield-Wikiup is a census-designated place unincorporated area in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 8,884 at the 2010 census, up from 7,479 at the 2000 census. It comprises the Mark West area between Santa Rosa (to the south), Windsor (north), Calistoga (east), and Fulton (west). There are at least four schools within the limits of the CDP, including Cardinal Newman High School, John B. Riebli Elementary School, Mark West Elementary, and San Miguel Elementary schools.

The facility is owned and operated by the Luther Burbank Memorial Foundation, a non-profit arts organization established in 1979.

The James H. and Frances E. Laughlin House, in Sonoma County, California, near Windsor, was built around 1876. It has also been known as Shady Farm. The listing includes four contributing buildings and a contributing structure. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.It was designed and built by builder J.T. Ludwig, who had his own lumberyard and manufactured his own bricks.It includes Greek Revival and Italianate elements.

Ursuline High School was a private, Roman Catholic, all-girls college-preparatory high school in Santa Rosa, California, in the Diocese of Santa Rosa. It was owned and operated by the Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union from 1880 to 2011, and was a sister school to Cardinal Newman High School for boys.

Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is a food bank on the North Coast of California which belongs to the Feeding America network. Its mission is to end hunger in its community. Founded in 1987, REFB is Sonoma County's largest hunger-relief organization, serving 133 charitable organizations, including emergency food pantries/closets, shelters and dining rooms, childcare centers/youth programs, group homes, and disaster relief agencies. Seniors, children, and working families come to food distributions seeking supplemental groceries. REFB acquires food and distributes it through a network of charitable agencies and its own food assistance programs and also provides food to Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte Counties through smaller food banks. In addition, the REFB advocates for legislation to provide long-term solutions to hunger in its community.

Cardinal Newman High School is an American Catholic high school located in Santa Rosa, California. The school was originally for boys, but shared some facilities with Ursuline High School for girls; it has been coeducational since Ursuline's closure in 2011. Its colors are Cardinal Red and Gold; its mascot is the cardinal. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa in California. In October 2017, the school was significantly damaged by the Tubbs Fire.

The Northern Sonoma AVA is an American Viticultural Area in Sonoma County, California, United States. The appellation covers most of the county with the notable exceptions of the Los Carneros AVA and Sonoma Valley AVA wine regions, which are located in the southern portion of the county. The creation of this AVA was largely based on the petitioning of the E & J Gallo Winery as part of their expansion of their Gallo of Sonoma brand. The viticultural area incorporates the Alexander Valley AVA, Chalk Hill AVA, Dry Creek Valley AVA, Knights Valley AVA, Russian River Valley AVA, Sonoma Coast AVA, and parts of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA and Rockpile AVA valleys.The majority of the grape varieties grown in Sonoma County are grown in Northern Sonoma AVA, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel. Zinfandel is more commonly grown in the Rockpile and Dry Creek Valleys. Gallo Family Vineyards are known for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay while Rodney Strong Vineyards is known for its Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. Bacigalupi Vineyards, situated in the Russian River Valley, are known for their Chardonnay.

The Pacific Coast Air Museum, in Santa Rosa, California, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving aviation history through the acquisition, restoration, and display of historic aircraft. The museum displays a varied collection of over 30 American military, propeller, and jet aircraft.
