Lothian is an unincorporated community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States., 12 miles southwest of Annapolis, 24 miles east of Washington and 31 miles south of Baltimore. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 6,643 people. Public Schools: Lothian Elementary, Southern Middle, and Southern Senior. Members of Congress: U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin; U.S. Representative Steny Hoyer (D-Md.-5th District). State Representatives: State Representative Robert A. Oakwood is a historic house at Harwood, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It was built in the 1850s and is a 2+1⁄2-story, frame vernacular farmhouse with Greek Revival influenced details. It is a highly intact, mid-19th-century tobacco plantation dwelling and is associated with Sprigg Harwood, a leader in the failed initiative to have Maryland leave the Union and align with the newly formed Confederate States of America.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Portland Manor is a historic home at Lothian, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2-story, center-passage plan, frame building. The main block was constructed in 1754, with the two wings added and enlarged about 1852. Also on the property are the remains of a large circular ice house and several frame outbuildings. Portland Manor was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Burrages End is a historic home near Lothian, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a small 1+1⁄2-story frame house with gambrel roof. The site is noteworthy for containing a number of buildings from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The house was constructed c. 1780, replacing an earlier house on the site, according to a 1982 study by the Architectural Research Department of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, presumably by Col. John Weems who purchased the property in 1764. Weems was the construction contractor for the 1762-65 St. James' Church 3/4 mile to the south. At Weems' death in 1794, Burrages End was sold to Thomas Sellman and remained in that family's hands until 1946. A Weems-Sellman cemetery is on site. Historic outbuildings include a slave quarter and a tobacco barn. In the late 1700s, Major John Welsh built a hall-and-parlor plan house with a "new hall" addition, both replaced c. 1780. "Although often assigned a late 17th century date, the present dwelling is a later house, built c. 1780." The property was patented in 1665 to John Burrage, who sold it to Welsh in 1668.Burrages End was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Evergreen is a historic home at Owensville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2+1⁄2-story white frame house composed of several sections, the earliest of which was built about 1760, and constructed by George Neall in the Federal style. The house reflects building evolution from the third quarter of the 18th century to the late 19th century.Evergreen was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

James Owens Farm is a historic home and farm at Bristol, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The home was built by successful tobacco farmer James Owens and is a large mid-19th century, two-story brick cross-gable late Greek Revival/Italianate dwelling. Outbuildings are all of frame construction and include an early 19th-century cornhouse, an early 19th-century tobacco barn, a mid-19th-century board-and-batten kitchen, carriage house, and smokehouse, and a late 19th-century chicken house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Christ Church, or Christ Episcopal Church, West River, is an historic Carpenter Gothic style Episcopal church at Owensville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a small, board-and-batten church with a long narrow nave, small deep chancel, and an entrance porch on its south side. The church is reputed to be by the noted church architect, Richard Upjohn and was at least built from his published designs of 1852.Christ Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Owensville Historic District is a national historic district at Owensville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is located around a small crossroads community located at the intersection of Owensville Road (MD 255) and Owensville-Sudley Road. It consists of a concentration of historic buildings leading up to and clustered around the intersecting roads. It consists of 27 buildings, including two church complexes, 16 dwellings with their associated domestic outbuildings, and several agricultural buildings, including tobacco barns. Included in the district is the separately listed Christ Church. Much of the historic building stock dates between 1825 and 1875.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Southern High School is a high school located in Harwood, Maryland, U.S., in Anne Arundel County. The school is operated by Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Southern was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School in 2009. They recently won the 2A State Lacrosse Championship 20–7, tying the record for most goals scored in a state championship game in Maryland state history. Also known as a great unified sports program which seeks participation and inclusion of every one.
