Beam Reach

Hornchurch Marshes is an area of the London Borough of Havering, adjacent to the north bank of the River Thames in London, England. Susceptible to flooding from three adjacent rivers, it was the southernmost marshland section of the ancient parish of Hornchurch. It was used for cattle grazing from the 16th to the 19th century and became industrialised by the 20th century. The eastern part of the Ford Dagenham estate extended into the Hornchurch Marshes and it is now an area of regeneration that includes Beam Reach and part of Beam Park. Two of the Dagenham wind turbines are located there and the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence.

The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) is a not-for-profit education and skills organisation at Rainham, London in the London Borough of Havering. The centre was developed as part of the Beam Reach area of the Thames Gateway regeneration, in a partnership between the London Development Agency and the Ford Motor Company. Havering College of Further and Higher Education and Barking and Dagenham College run courses at the site under the name Thames Gateway College. CEME provides green technology retrofitting courses. The CEME site includes conference meeting facilities for up to 300 people. The development site also accommodates 45 start-up companies.

Beam Park railway station is a planned railway station to serve the new community of Beam Park. Intended to serve a redeveloped former industrial area with extremely poor access to public transport, plans for the station have been in development since at least 2002. Beam Park is a large housing development that extends from the London Borough of Havering, where the new station is proposed to be sited, into the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The construction costs of the station have been met by developers in the area and the Greater London Authority. The station received planning permission in February 2019. As of April 2023 the Department for Transport has not authorised the introduction of passenger services at the station and is unwilling to do so until 2024.

Beam Park is a new neighbourhood in the south of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the London Borough of Havering. It is named after the River Beam which forms the boundary between the boroughs. It is part of the London Riverside opportunity area and is designated with neighbouring Rainham as a housing zone by the Greater London Authority. It covers an area of 29 hectares (71.7 acres). It will include a town centre in the Havering part of the development and will be served by Beam Park railway station. Much of the land previously part of the Ford Dagenham site is being redeveloped as a joint venture between London and Quadrant and Countryside Properties. Planning consent for 3,000 homes was issued in February 2019 and construction began in May 2019. The first residents moved into Beam Park in December 2020. Planning permission was given for 947 additional homes in December 2022

Beam Park is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Havering. The ward was first used in the 2022 elections. It returns two councillors to Havering London Borough Council. The ward includes the eastern part of the new neighbourhood of Beam Park, Orchard Village and part of South Hornchurch.

Orchard Village, formerly known as the Mardyke Estate, is a housing development in the South Hornchurch area of London, England. From 2009 to 2017 the site underwent regeneration as part of the London Riverside part of the Thames Gateway. The estate was transferred from Havering London Borough Council to Old Ford Housing Association in March 2008 and redevelopment work started in November 2009. Most of the existing housing, including a number of high rise blocks and flats, were demolished.

Dagenham and Rainham is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Jon Cruddas of the Labour Party since its 2010 creation.

The River Rom, also known as the River Beam below its confluence with the Ravensbourne, is a tributary of the River Thames in England that flows through east London suburbs surrounding the metropolitan centre of Romford, part of it forming a section of the boundary between the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham and Havering. The Rom is culverted for a brief midsection as it passes through the centre of Romford.

The Belvedere Crossing was a proposed River Thames crossing in East and South East London, running between Rainham in the London Borough of Havering and Belvedere in the London Borough of Bexley. Plans for the crossing, as well as the Gallions Reach Crossing further upstream, were dropped when Sadiq Khan became Mayor of London in 2016.

River ward was an electoral ward in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham from 1965 to 2022. It returning four councillors until 1978 and then three councillors to Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council. The boundaries of the ward were revised in 1978 and 2002.

Ford Dagenham is a major automotive factory located in Dagenham, London, operated by the Ford of Britain subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. The plant opened in 1931 and has produced 10,980,368 cars and more than 39,000,000 engines in its history. It covers around 475 acres and has received over £800 million of capital investment since 2000. Vehicle assembly ceased at the plant in 2002, but it continues as a major production site with capacity to assemble 1.4 million engines a year. In 2008, the plant produced around 1,050,000 engines and was the largest producer of Ford diesel engines globally. It was announced in October 2012 that the stamping plant at Dagenham would close in summer 2013 with the loss of 1,000 jobs. Employment at the plant peaked at around 40,000 workers in 1953. Following the change to only building engines it now employs around 2,000 people.

The Dagenham wind turbines are two 85-metre (279 ft) high Enercon E-66 and one E-82 wind turbines located on the Dagenham estate of the Ford Motor Company in East London, England. The first two turbines were completed in April 2004 and the third was installed in 2011. They are landmarks of the skyline and the first wind farm to be built in London.
