Rhydycroesau

Llawnt is a village in Shropshire, England. The name comes from Middle Welsh, borrowing from the English 'lawn'. The meaning in this case is 'green' (named after a piece of green land in the centre of the village). The village is located about a mile from the border between Shropshire and Powys, near Rhydycroesau, and approximately four miles west of Oswestry. Its location and its Welsh name shows that this was at one time part of Powys. This changed with the 16th-century Acts of Union, when the Lordship of Oswestry was given to Shropshire. The River Morda flows past the village.

The Oswestry Uplands are a small natural region in the English county of Shropshire on the border with Wales. The Oswestry Uplands have been designated as Natural Area No. 41 and National Character Area No. 63 by Natural England and its predecessor bodies. The area is much more closely linked by culture and language to Wales than other parts of Shropshire. The Uplands are characterized by an undulating landscape of Carboniferous Limestone hills with calcareous grasslands and rocky outcrops with steep wooded valleys; marshes and fens occupying the valley bottoms. The Uplands have a total area of 9,981 hectares and occupy a salient running from Pant to Chirk on the Anglo-Welsh border which takes in the town of Oswestry and village of Gobowen. The highest elevations lie on the western boundary of the NCA bordering the Berwyn Hills of Wales and the highest point is on Selattyn Hill (372 metres (1,220 ft)).

Trefonen is a small village located approximately three miles (4.8 km) south-west of Oswestry, and three miles east of the England-Wales border, in Shropshire, England. The name translates into "village of the ash trees" in English. In 2001, the total population was 1,798, but there has been considerable housing development since that time. The village currently comprises over 700 households, a village hall with playing fields and play area, a parish church, one public house—the Barley Mow, one shop, pre school, and a primary school. At the 2011 Census the population details are listed under Oswestry Rural. The eighth century earthwork Offa's Dyke ran through the village and it is still visible today, in small sections, running adjacent to Chapel Lane. The Offa's Dyke Path, tracing the route of the structure, also runs directly through the village. Each summer the more contemporary Trefonen Hill Walk is organised by local residents to raise money for charitable causes.

Selattyn (Welsh: Sylatyn) is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Selattyn and Gobowen, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. It is on the England–Wales border, close to Oswestry. In 1961 the parish had a population of 1830. On 1 April 1967 the parish was abolished to form "Selattyn and Gobowen", part also went to Whittington.The village is near Offa's Dyke, which bounds the parish on the west. The parish includes the townships of Upper and Lower Porkington (which was adapted into Welsh as Brogyntyn), and also the hamlet of Hengoed (Welsh for 'old forest'). The topography is undulating and well timbered, with soils of various qualities; the substratum abounds with limestone. There are quarries of good building-stone. Close to Selattyn lies the ruined Castle Brogyntyn dating to the 12th century. The area only became confirmed as part of Shropshire and therefore also a part of England in the 16th century. E. G. Ravenstein's look at the geographical extent of the Welsh language in 1878, from a lecture he gave in that year, reported Welsh services and Welsh being spoken in Selattyn and the surrounding area.

Selattyn and Gobowen is a civil parish in Shropshire, England. The civil parish population at the 2011 census was 4,016.

St Silin's Church is a parish church in Llansilin, Powys, Wales. The present building, which has parts dating back to the 13th century, is a Grade I listed building. It stands on a site that has been used by Christian communities since the Dark Ages. The church is dedicated to Saint Silin, now better known as Saint Sulien, the 6th-century founder-abbot of a monastery at Luxulyan in Cornwall. St Silin was the only parish in the Welsh Marches on the England–Wales border that voted to leave the Church of England under provisions of the Welsh Church Act 1914 that led to the creation of the Church in Wales.

Llansilin (Welsh pronunciation) is a village and local government community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales, 5 miles (8 km) west of Oswestry. The community, which includes Llansilin village, a large rural area and the hamlets of Moelfre and Rhiwlas as well as the remote parish of Llangadwaladr, had a population of 648 at the 2001 census, increasing to 698 at the 2011 Census. There is also an electoral ward including the nearby village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant with a population of 2,295.

Treflach is a small village near Oswestry in Shropshire, England. It is in the Oswestry Rural parish and lies between two other villages Trefonen and Nantmawr. Together these three villages have a village design statement.

Brogyntyn is a mansion in the parish of Selatyn to the north-west of Oswestry in Shropshire, England. Brogyntyn Hall was the home of the Ormsby-Gore family from 1815, and had previously been the estate of their ancestors the Maurices and Owens since the sixteenth century. It was abandoned and uninhabited from around 1985.

Brogyntyn Castle is a ruin of a native Welsh castle found close to Selattyn, Shropshire, England, on the Anglo-Welsh border. It is thought the castle was built, or at least owned, by Owain Brogyntyn, a 12th Century prince of the kingdom of Powys. Very little of the castle now remains. The antiquarian resource book Earthwork of England, prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, Danish, Norman and medieval (1908) states: "Brogyntyn Castle, near Oswestry, is a perfectly round moated site, the external diameter 290 feet, the internal 160 feet, and the fosse having a width of 65 feet." Castle Brogyntyn formerly belonged to Owain Brogyntyn, the natural son of Prince Madog ab Meredydd.

Nantmawr is a village in Shropshire, England. It is located about 5 miles south west of Oswestry and close to the Welsh border. The Offa's Dyke Path runs through the village. Like many of the towns in the Welsh Marches, the area was formerly Welsh speaking, and its name means "big stream". The village also forms the terminus of the surviving stub of the former Potteries, Shrewsbury & North Wales Railway, better known as the 'Potts Line', which is currently being re-opened as a heritage railway by the Tanat Valley Light Railway Company. Nantmawr has a nature reserve known as "Jones' Rough" managed by Shropshire Wildlife Trust. It is a breeding place for the pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly.
