London Road (Sheffield)

Velocity Tower is a mixed use development next to the Inner Ring Road in Sheffield City Centre, South Yorkshire, England, overlooking Ecclesall Road. The build is a continuation of a previous design to be built by Cala, titled 'Eclipse'.

The Moorfoot Building is a large office building in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, in the form of a step pyramid. It is located at the foot of The Moor (a pedestrianised shopping street), close to the Sheffield Inner Ring Road. Before its construction, The Moor continued across St Mary's Gate onto London Road. The building opened in July 1981.The building is based around three wings; the East Wing, the West Wing & the North Wing, and floors were originally numbered in the US style with the ground floor as Floor 1 or First Floor. Amongst the facilities originally constructed in the building was a staff restaurant and bar on Floor 2 and a full sized squash court in the basement. As the construction of the building across The Moor effectively severed the traditional access to The Moor from London Road, to satisfy planning conditions, Moorfoot was designed to allow pedestrian access 'through' the building. The pedestrian walkway began with an elevated ramp near the corner of Young Street and South Lane, before proceeding via a tunnel through the building (including a section with a glazed roof as the route crossed the base of an open area in the East Wing. The walkway exited the building above the car park and used sloping ramps to bring the route back to ground level on The Moor near the Entrance to the building. The route was dependent on the completion of a further planned development (where the Premier Inn hotel is currently located) and as this development did not take place, the route was never completed or opened to the public. The building was previously known as the Manpower Services Commission Building and was the headquarters of that agency. It later contained offices belonging to several departments of the British Government, namely: Training Commission Training Agency Department of Employment Department for Children, Schools and Families Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills Department for Work and Pensions Home OfficeThe building was purchased by Sheffield City Council in the late 2000s with the government departments as sitting tenants pending their relocation. In 2010 the British Government vacated the property, and were replaced by the council's Children, Young Peoples and Families Directorate and Central Finance Service. It was planned that the building would eventually be demolished and the site form part of a new business district. However, in the summer of 2011, many departments from Sheffield Town Hall moved into the Moorfoot Building. In January 2013 Henry Boot Construction announced the award of a contract to refurbish a large part of the building for Sheffield City Council. The multimillion-pound project was to deliver vital services upgrades and a refurbishment to the majority of the building in order to provide office space for SCC employees.

The Highfield Cocoa and Coffee House is a building in Sheffield, England. It was built in 1877 by Frederick Thorpe Mappin, a local businessman, and was intended to provide non-alcoholic entertainment to the working classes. It featured a coffee, tea and cocoa bar, a library, billiards room and skittle alley. The Cocoa and Coffee House closed in 1908 and the building was used to house a confectioner's shop. In the 1950s the structure was acquired by the shopfitters George Barlow & Sons and used as a showroom. The firm installed seven Modernist concrete friezes to the façade in 1967. The firm, which had since become Keetons Property, sought to demolish the building in 2022 to construct a block of flats. The demolition was objected to by Hallamshire Historic Buildings (HHB) and the Victorian Society.

The Moore Street electricity substation is an electrical substation in Sheffield, England, designed by Jefferson Sheard in 1968. The substation is an example of Brutalist architecture. Owen Hatherley describes it as "a shocking paroxysm of a building, an explosion in reinforced concrete, a bunker built with an aesthete's attention to detail, a building which is genuinely Brutalist in both senses of the term."The building was illuminated in October 2010. Paul Scriven, then the leader of Sheffield City Council, commented "The newly lit building will be a shining beacon for the city and an iconic landmark on the inner relief road" and described the substation as "an iconic building which has been important in keeping the lights on in Sheffield since the 1960s."The building was granted Grade II listed status by English Heritage in September 2013, with the building being described as a "massive and uncompromising bunker which by its plainness and fully-displayed structure expresses a highly appropriate impression of enormous energy confined and controlled within."

Portland Works is a former cutlery works in the Highfield area of Sheffield in England. Built in 1877, it is now a Grade II* listed building and one of the last remaining working examples of a purpose built metal trades factory. In early 2013, it was bought by nearly five hundred people, through one of the country's largest community share issues. Today Portland works operates a collection of workspaces for traditional and modern craftspeople and is home to more than 30 small businesses.

Taylor's Eye Witness Works is an industrial building on Milton Street in the Devonshire Quarter area of Sheffield city centre, South Yorkshire, England. The works are a Grade II listed building which since their foundation in 1852 have always specialised in producing kitchen and pocket knives along with various associated products. The building is believed to be the only traditional works in Sheffield which still manufactures its original products. It stands next to the Beehive Works another listed cutlery works on Milton Street.

The Beehive Works are a purpose-built cutlery works located on Milton Street in the Devonshire Quarter area of Sheffield city centre. The works were built in stages in the second half of the 19th century and are designated as a Grade II* listed building with English Heritage stating that they are of special architectural and historic interest as an examples of buildings associated with Sheffield's metal manufacturing and metal working trades. The works stand adjacent to the Taylor's Eye Witness Works and together they make Milton Street one of the best places to gain an impression of Sheffield’s former cutlery industry.

Ecclesall Road is a road in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, that runs for about 3.6 miles (5.8 km) south-west from Sheffield's city centre under the number A625. At Banner Cross, where the house numbers reach 1001, the road name changes to Ecclesall Road South and numbering restarts. Ecclesall Road, as a named road, finishes at Whirlow, although the course of the road continues as Hathersage Road.

Corporation, often referred to as Corp by locals, is an independent live music venue and nightclub located in the city centre of Sheffield, England. In addition to hosting live music from touring bands, Corporation hosts club nights which play a variety of alternative, pop and rock music.

The Moor Quarter is one of Sheffield's twelve designated quarters, built around and named for The Moor, a pedestrianised thoroughfare. It is bound by Furnival Gate in the north-east, Eyre Street in the south-east, St Mary's Gate to the south, and Moore Street and Charter Row to the north-west. It is primarily a retail location, with the city's main market now located in the quarter. There are also some offices at Charter Row and Moorfoot. It benefits from a good location, centrally between the Devonshire Quarter, Cultural Industries Quarter, Heart of the City and London Road and Ecclesall Road shops. The monolithic Moorfoot Building is at the south-west end of the Moor. It previously housed central British government departments, but is now used by Sheffield City Council.

Heart of the City II is a mixed-use development under construction in Sheffield city centre, England between the Devonshire Quarter and The Moor Gateway. The project was previously given the marketing name Sevenstone, prior to Hammerson, the developer, being dropped from the project in July 2013 with Sheffield City Council seeking new developers. The first phase, consisting of restaurants, shops and offices opened in 2020. The second phase is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by 2023.
