Woll, Scottish Borders

Salenside is a village off the A7, on the Ale Water, near Ashkirk, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, in the former Selkirkshire. There was a Salenside Tower house, but nothing remains of it. Salenside Farm and Salenside Cottage exist. The placenames Selkirk and Salenside are related. Other places nearby include Appletreehall, Essenside, Hawick, Lilliesleaf, Philiphaugh, and Woll.

Ashkirk is a small village on the Ale Water, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. It is located just off the A7 road, approximately 6 miles (10 kilometres) each way between Selkirk to the north and Hawick to the south. The Haining is a country house and estate in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. The present house dates from the 1790s, and was a property of the Pringle family. In 2009, the house and grounds were bequeathed to The Haining Charitable Trust which manages the estate for the benefit of the people of Selkirkshire and the wider public. The Haining Charitable Trust is now working on developing the building as a centre for exhibitions and events, highlighting art, culture and history. The House is currently being refurbished and will be let out for various events and functions. The Old Coach House and Stable outbuildings have been refurbished and now offer six brand new artists studios. Holiday apartments, The Ettrick, and The Yarrow, and the two-beroomed, Dairy Cottage, are also now available within the grounds available for booking via Visit Scotland. The "Old Ginger" statue is located in the kennel yard. The house is protected as a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.

Selkirk Town House is a municipal building in the Market Place, Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland. The structure, which is used as a local history museum is a Category A listed building.

Philiphaugh is a rugby union ground in the Royal Burgh of Selkirk, Scotland with a capacity of approximately 6,000. It is the home of Selkirk Rugby Football Club, who currently play in Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership Division One and the Border League. Rugby was first recorded being played in the town of Selkirk in 1877, not far from the ground's current site. However it was Selkirk Cricket Club who first used the current pitch, before moving to larger premises. Selkirk RFC first played at Philiphaugh in September 1926.The Border Reivers professional team played their first game at Philiphaugh in 1999.

County Buildings is a municipal structure in Ettrick Terrace, Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland. The complex, which was the headquarters of Selkirkshire County Council and was also used as a courthouse, is a Category B listed building.

Selkirk railway station served the town of Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland, from 1856 to 1964 on the Selkirk and Galashiels Railway.

Selkirk is a town and historic royal burgh in the Scottish Borders council district of southeastern Scotland. It lies on the Ettrick Water, a tributary of the River Tweed. Selkirk High School is a high school in Selkirk, Scotland, which serves the town and its surrounding area including the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys and the villages of Midlem and Lilliesleaf. The school's motto is 'Trusty and Leal', taken from the common riding song 'Up wi' the Souters'.

Philiphaugh is a village by the Yarrow Water, on the outskirts of Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders. Places nearby include Bowhill, Broadmeadows, the Ettrick Water, Ettrickbridge, Lindean, Salenside, Yarrowford and the Yair Forest. Originally referred to as the land owned as part of Philiphaugh Estate, the name is today more commonly used to describe the most southern parts of Selkirk. Philiphaugh rugby ground is the home of Selkirk Rugby Club. Selkirk Cricket Club is the site of the Battle of Philiphaugh, fought on 13 September 1645 at the height of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The grave of Tibbie Tamson (died 1790), a suicide from Selkirk buried in unconsecrated ground, is located at an isolated spot near Harehead Hill at the boundary between the Philiphaugh and Bowhill estates. The grave is maintained by way of an apology.

The Battle of Philiphaugh was fought on 13 September 1645 during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. The Royalist army of the Marquis of Montrose was destroyed by the Covenanter army of Sir David Leslie, restoring the power of the Committee of Estates.
