Basye is a census-designated place (CDP) in Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,374 at the 2020 census. As of the 2000 census, the CDP was known as Basye-Bryce Mountain.

Bryce Resort is a 400-acre member-owned resort in the northern part of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley that is open to the public. The facility opened in 1965 and is located near the West Virginia border, 11 miles west of Mount Jackson, Virginia. The resort is very popular with residents of the valley, as well as families and tourists from the Washington, D.C. area, some 115 miles (185 km) away. Principal activities include skiing, golf, mountain activities, mountain biking, tennis, fishing, and water sports at Lake Laura and the resort pool. The ski area was opened as a year-round resort by Pete and Julie Brice in 1965, seeking to attract visitors drawn to the nearby Orkney Springs, and has been in operation ever since. In December 2020 Bryce was rated one of the Top 25 family-friendly ski resorts in North America by Yelp. Due to the relatively temperate climate of northwestern Virginia, the resort relies considerably on artificial snowmaking, and was one of the first and only resorts in North America to introduce grass skiing during summer months though that activity is no longer supported. Weather permitted, golf is played year-round. The 18-hole PGA Championship course offers challenges of trees and a creek that meanders throughout. The resort was managed by brothers Horst and Manfred Locher until 1997 and is now managed by Ryan Locher.

Shrine Mont is a retreat and conference center owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia in the town of Orkney Springs, Virginia, United States which is located at the foot of Great North Mountain in the Shenandoah Valley and at the edge of the George Washington National Forest. It includes about 1,100 acres of forest. The church at Shrine Mont is the Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration, an open-air sanctuary consecrated in 1925. Each of its stones was pulled by horse or rolled by local people from the mountain that embraces it. The baptismal font was originally a dugout stone used by Native Americans to grind corn. It also includes The Virginia House (formerly known as the Orkney Springs Hotel) which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was purchased by Shrine Mont in 1979. With its white clapboard structure and tall, green-shuttered windows, The Virginia House is four stories high. The 96,000 square-foot structure was built in 1873 and restored in 1987.

Orkney Springs is a CDP in western Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States. The reason for the name "Orkney" is unknown, but believed to be tied to either the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland or to the Earl of Orkney, since one of the earliest European landowners was Dr. John McDonald, a Scottish physician. The "Springs" part of the name comes from the numerous underground mineral springs in the area. Major Peter Higgins laid out the town in 1808, with a common area surrounded by lots; later archeological research found relics of prior Native American use of the site. In January 1864 Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee's Confederate cavalry and McNeill's Partisan Rangers camped in Orkney Springs.The first public hotel was built in the early 19th century, as tourists arrived to sample the healing waters. Those private hotels on the former common green consolidated into the Orkney Springs Hotel. Most of the original buildings still stand, have been restored, and are in use today. The Orkney Springs Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and its most current restoration finished in 1987. The Virginia House is believed to be the largest wooden structure in Virginia. It dates to the 1870s and is on the National Historical Register. The Maryland House dates to the mid-1850s, but collapsed and was rebuilt after the Civil War. The Orkney Springs Hotel was owned privately until 1979 when it was purchased by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and became part of their retreat center Shrine Mont.The Episcopal Church had offered services in the town since the 19th century, and it had been a favorite retreat of Bishop Robert Atkinson Gibson from 1876 until his death in 1919. Bishop Gibson purchased a cottage in town which he called Tanglewood, and refitted an abandoned schoolhouse as a chapel. They became the heart of Shrine Mont, after his son-in-law, Rev. Edmund Lee Woodward, M.D. (a former medical missionary to China), built another cottage and what became the diocese's Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration and donated them to the diocese. This open-air outdoor worship space, built of native stone, was consecrated on August 6, 1925, by Bishop William Cabell Brown. The retreat center continued to purchase buildings in the town, including the hotel in 1979. Shrine Mont now hosts conferences and retreats, especially from March–November, as well as many family reunions, summer camps for children and teenagers. Multiple worship services are held in the cathedral on Sundays. Shrine Mont also hosts the annual Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, from July until Labor Day.

Orkney Springs Hotel is a historic resort spa complex located at Orkney Springs, Shenandoah County, Virginia. The oldest building, known as Maryland House, was built in 1853, and is a two-story, rectangular stuccoed frame building. It is faced on all sides by double galleries. The main hotel building, known as Virginia House, was built between 1873 and 1876. It is a four-story, stuccoed frame, H-shaped building measuring 100 feet by 165 feet and features a three-story verandah. The hotel contains 175 bedrooms. The remaining contributing resources are the three-story Pennsylvania House (1867), seven identical two-story, six-room, hipped roof cottages, and a small columned pavilion located next to the mineral springs.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is currently owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, which operates it and several surrounding buildings as Shrine Mont, a retreat center which also contains the diocese's Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is the longest running music festival in Virginia. It presents a concert series each summer that takes place mid-July through Labor Day weekend at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia. The Festival started in 1963 as a way of bringing symphonic music to the rural Shenandoah Valley. Symphonic music is still included in the series; other genres including bluegrass, country, folk, pop-rock, roots, and Americana are also presented. Past artists have included Bruce Hornsby, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Home Free, The Temptations, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kenny G, LeAnn Rimes, Ricky Skaggs, Kris Kristofferson, Pure Prairie League, Poco, and The Beach Boys.The Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is a nonprofit organization.Concerts take place in the pavilion of Shrine Mont, formerly the Orkney Springs Hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. The Shenandoah Valley Music Festival has held its concert series each summer since 1963. Despite the Coronavirus epidemic in 2020, the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival still took place with strict public safety measures.

Conicville is a census-designated place in Shenandoah County, in the U.S. state of Virginia, at the intersection of State Route 42 - Senedo Road (also referred to Back Road in earlier times and Censuses) and County Road 703 - Conicville Road. Conicville was formerly known as Cabin Hill, as it was a cluster of approximately 22 homes, Christ Church and several, now closed, businesses, and is located at the northeast end of the Cabin Hill ridge that runs parallel to and just east of Swover Creek and State Route 42, from Hudson Crossroads, at SR 42 and CR 720 - Crooked Run Road. The US Geological Survey notes a Bench Mark elevation of 1256 feet, just south of the SR 42 / CR 703 intersection. Latitude 38.83 and longitude -78.69. Conicville/Cabin Hill was founded by European, primarily Swiss (Mennonites) and Germanic immigrants, who emigrated through Pennsylvania, in the mid-1700s, to what was then Frederick County of Virginia. As population grew, Dunmore County was formed from part of Frederick County and was later renamed Shenandoah County.

Basore is an unincorporated community on Upper Cove Run in Hardy County, West Virginia, United States. Basore lies to the east of Mathias at the eastern approach of a gap in Cove Mountain.

Benjamin Wierman House, also known as the Gorman Lloyd House and Snapp House, is a historic home located near Quicksburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia. It was built in 1859, and is a two-story, frame I-house dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It sits on an English basement. The house features a long set of new wooden steps that lead up to a small front portico and massive cut limestone chimneys. Also on the property are the contributing one-story frame spring house with a loft, a small meat house, a frame chicken house, and a horse barn site.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The Andrew Zirkle Mill is a 1760s era grist mill located in the southern end of Shenandoah County, Virginia. The mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 after being restored by Glenn Hofecker, the owner at the time. The mill is cited as a prime example of the architecture and construction of grist mills and manufacturing facilities of its era.

Forestville is a CDP in Shenandoah County, in the U.S. state of Virginia.The Forestville Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
