Middle Bar is a former mining town on the Mokelumne River in Amador County, California. It is a California Historical Landmark.

Double Springs, California, is a historical site of the former town in Calaveras County, now in Valley Springs, California. The town was built during the California Gold Rush. Double Springs was founded on February 18, 1850, two years after the start of the California Gold Rush. Double Springs grew so quickly that it was the seat of Calaveras County in 1850. The County seat was a coveted honor and a year later, in 1851, Jackson was able to claim the title, but only for a year. In 1852 by popular vote, Mokelumne Hill was able to become the County seat until 1866 when it move to San Andreas. The Double Springs was in what is called the California Mother Lode mining region. The Double Springs old courthouse was built in 1849, and was moved, its original spot is now rural land. A foundation mark was placed at the site of the old courthouse, installed by the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce. The courthouse is now at the Calaveras County Museum Complex in San Andreas. Double Springs received its name from two springs nearby springs that are between the low hills nearby. Alexander R. Wheat built a large house from squared sandstone in 1860, the house is still there. One of the other remains of Double Springs is a family cemetery. Double Springs site is about 3.6 miles east of Valley Springs and is mostly rural land near Youngs Creek. The site of Double Springs is a California Historical Landmark No. 264.

The Big Bar, also called Upper Bar, is a gold mine in Jackson, California, United States. The mine opened in 1848 along the Mokelumne River and is registered as California Historical Landmark #41. The jackpot mine sprung up a town quickly for the prospectors and those who served them. An old inn is all that remains of the town. A Whaleboat ferry ran across the river from 1848 until 1852 when a new bridge was built by Soher & Parrish. A newer bridge is at the spot of the original bridge. In 1856, Dr. L. Soher opened a toll road, now called the Old Toll Road, from the city of Mokelumne Hill to the bridge. A 1862 flood washed away the Soher' bridge, so he opened a new ferry, till a new bridge was built. North of the site is the city of Butte City, Butte Store is a California Historical Landmark No. 39. The Big Bar site today is the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Big Bar Launch Facility, on the Mokelumne River Whitewater Trail. While the Historical listing is in Amador County, the Big Bar site is also in Calaveras County across the river.

Mokelumne Hill Congregational Church, now Mokelumne Hill Community Church, is a historical building in Mokelumne Hill, California in Calaveras County built in 1856. The Congregational Church was founded on August 28, 1853. The first church building built in 1853 was lost in a fire in 1854. Mokelumne Hill Congregational Church is the fifth Congregational Church founded in California. The 1856 building was built by Pastor J. S. Zellie at a cost of $2,700. The funds for the building were donated by miners and fundraising of the women of the congregation. The new church was dedicated on March 8, 1857, by Pastor Joseph Benton of Sacramento. The church has a stone foundation and was built using wood board and batten. The Church's windows were imported by ship from the East Coast of the United States that sailed around the Straits of Magellan of South America. The name of the church changed in 1959 when it was incorporated to the Mokelumne Hill Community Church. The historical building and the church are open and visitors are welcome on Wednesdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 9:30am. The Church is California Historical Landmark No. 261

Mokelumne Hill (Mokelumne, Miwok for "People of the Fish Net") is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calaveras County, California, United States. The population was 646 at the 2010 census, down from 774 at the 2000 census. It is commonly referred to as "Moke Hill" by locals. The town takes its name from the neighboring Mokelumne River, which in turn is Miwok for the "people of Mokel," the likely name of a Native American village in the area.

Chili Gulch (also spelled Chile Gulch) is a gulch in Calaveras County, California. This five-mile gulch was the richest placer mining section in Calaveras County. It received its name from Chileans who worked it in 1848 and 1849, and was the scene of the so-called Chilean War. The largest known quartz crystals were recovered from a mine on the south side of the gulch. Chili Gulch is registered as California Historical Landmark #265.

The Hotel Léger, in Mokelumne Hill, California is one of the oldest hotels still operating in California. The hotel and courthouse building are registered as California Historical Landmark #663, and located in present-day Calaveras County, California.

The I.O.O.F. Hall in Mokelumne Hill, California, which is California Historical Landmark #256, is said to be California's first three-story building to be erected outside the coastal towns. The original building was erected in 1854 as a two-story building. A third story to be used for lodge purposes was added in 1861. According to a local website: "The I.O.O.F. Hall is a grand survivor. Built after the first fire in 1855, the building was sold to the Odd Fellows in 1860. The organization immediately began construction of a third story. The Odd Fellows celebrated their feat—constructing the first three-story stone building in California—with a grand ball. Tickets were $6, plus $1.50 for dinner. Some may have grumbled at the price, but the whole town attended. Little has changed. The I.O.O.F. Hall is still party central. The first floor houses the Hole in the Wall, one of the Foothills' liveliest bars."

The Pioneer Cemetery, formerly known as the North Branch Cemetery, is a defunct cemetery established in c. 1851, and located along California State Route 12 in San Andreas, Calaveras County, California. It is the oldest known cemetery in Calaveras County.The site is listed as a California Historical Landmark (number 271), by the California Office of Historic Preservation since September 3, 1937.

Greasertown is a former gold rush settlement in Calaveras County, 4 miles (6.4 km) west of San Andreas, on the west side of the Calaveras River. It was first mentioned in a newspaper in 1851. When it caught fire the next year, "Spanish incendiaries" were blamed which so angered the locals that they drove out all the Hispanics they could find. However, it survived at least until 1868. It was submerged when the first Hogan Dam on the Calaveras River was built in the late 1920s. Greasertown was not renamed Petersburg; they were separate communities a mile apart. Petersburg was founded in 1858.

Pardee Dam is a 345-foot (105 m)-high structure across the Mokelumne River which marks the boundary between Amador and Calaveras Counties, located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada approximately 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Stockton.

Happy Valley is an unincorporated community in Calaveras County, California. It lies at an elevation of 1509 feet (460 m). Happy Valley was settled by immigrants from France, who engaged in placer gold mining and viticulture, establishing a stone winery. The date of the town's establishment is uncertain; it may predate the 1848 discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill. At its peak there were thousands of residents of many ethnic backgrounds in the vicinity; by 1956 only two buildings remained.
