Montemezzo (Comasco: Montemezz [mũteˈmɛts]) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Milan and about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northeast of Como. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 270 and an area of 9.1 km2.Montemezzo borders the following municipalities: Gera Lario, Samolaco, Sorico, Trezzone, Vercana.

The Valchiavenna (Italian: [valkjaˈvɛnna]; Lombard: Valciàvena [ʋaltʃaˈʋɛna]) is an alpine valley in the province of Sondrio, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It lies to the north of Lake Como, and is traversed by the rivers Mera and Liro. It can be divided into three parts which branch from the confluence of these rivers near Chiavenna, the principal town of the region. The lower part, the Bassa Valchiavenna, follows the course of the Mera downstream through the Piano di Chiavenna to Lago di Mezzola, and continues across the Pian di Spagna to the Trivio di Fuentes near Colico. Its territitory lies within the comuni of Mese, Prata Camportaccio, Gordona, Samolaco, Novate Mezzola and Verceia. The northern part consists of the Valle Spluga, the valley of the Liro river which leads up to the Splügen Pass on the border with Switzerland and includes the comuni of San Giacomo Filippo, Madesimo, and Campodolcino. The third subdivision of Valchiavenna is the Italian part (comuni of Villa di Chiavenna and Piuro) of the Val Bregaglia, which is the upper valley of the Mera and rises eastward towards the Passo del Maloja. The Comunità Montana della Valchiavenna, which coincides approximately with the Valchiavenna, includes the thirteen comuni of Campodolcino, Chiavenna, Gordona, Madesimo, Menarola, Mese, Novate Mezzola, Piuro, Prata Camportaccio, Samolaco, San Giacomo Filippo, Verceia and Villa di Chiavenna. The Riserva Naturale Pian di Spagna e Lago di Mezzola lies partly within it.

Sorico (Comasco: Suregh [ˈsuːrek]) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Milan and about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northeast of Como. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,188 and an area of 23.3 square kilometres (9.0 sq mi).The municipality of Sorico contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Albonico, Bugiallo, and Dascio. Sorico borders the following municipalities: Dubino, Gera Lario, Montemezzo, Novate Mezzola, Samolaco, Verceia.

The Mera (Lombard: Maira) is a river in Switzerland and Italy. Its source is near the Piz Mungiroi, in the Grisons, Switzerland. First, it flows east in the direction to Maloja Pass, then turns west through the Val Bregaglia (German: Bergell) and crosses the border to Italy in Castasegna (Dogana). It is joined by the Acquafraggia close to Piuro, and then turns south at Chiavenna, just before it receives the river Liro from the right at Prata Camportaccio. The Mera ends in Lake Como, near Sorico in the Province of Como.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 942 and an area of 6.7 km².Gera Lario borders the following municipalities: Colico, Dubino, Montemezzo, Piantedo, Sorico, Trezzone, Vercana.

The Tempietto di San Fedelino', also known as the Oratorio di San Fedele, is a 10th to 11th-century small, Roman Catholic sanctuary or church, located in a remote rural site Via San Fedelino near Novate Mezzola, at the south shore of the River Mera where it feeds Lake Mezzola, province of Sondrio, region of Lombardy, Italy. The small church is made of local stone and has a rounded apse. It still retains some 11th-century frescoes. The frescoes resemble those from the apse of the church of San Vincenzo in Galliano (circa 1004–1007).46°12′53″N 9°26′23″E

The Riserva Naturale Pian di Spagna e Lago di Mezzola is a nature reserve in Lombardy, in northern Italy. The reserve consists of the Lago di Mezzola and the Pian di Spagna, the wetland area which separates it from Lake Como. It includes parts of the comuni of Sorico and Gera Lario in the province of Como, and of the comuni of Dubino, Verceia and Novate Mezzola in the province of Sondrio. It was established by Deliberazione del Consiglio Regionale III/1913, dated 6 February 1985, and has the EUAP reference code EUAP0326.

The Lago di Mezzola is a small lake in the Italian region of Lombardy, measuring 5.9 km2 (2.3 sq mi).

Samolaco (Lombard: Samolegh or Samolagh) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Sondrio in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of the regional capital Milan and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Sondrio. As of 31 December 2005, it had a population of 2,913 and an area of 44.5 square kilometres (17.2 sq mi). The territory of the comune, mostly mountainous, includes of a number of small centres of population, notably Casenda, Era, Giumello, San Pietro and Somaggia. All of these lie in the valley known as the Piano di Chiavenna, just to the north of the small lake Lago di Mezzola, which itself lies to the north of Lake Como. There is no centre called Samolaco, although the community centre, a grocery store, a bank, two bars, a farm supply store and an artisan honey producer lie in the Samolaco area. Samolaco borders the following municipalities: Gordona, Livo, Montemezzo, Novate Mezzola, Prata Camportaccio, Sorico, Vercana.
