Farranfore (Irish: An Fearann Fuar, meaning 'the cold land') is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. It lies on the N22 road approximately midway between Tralee (10 miles or 17 km) and Killarney (9 miles or 15 km) and on the railway line connecting the two towns. Farranfore came into existence as a turnpike; a gate at the cross-roads in the village marked the boundary of the lands of the Earls of Kenmare.

Passenger services are operated by Ryanair and more recently French airline Chalair . In 2022, Kerry Airport handled 355,043 passengers; a decrease of 4% since 2019.

The nearest church is a further mile in Clogher, where there is also a National School.

Edenburn House, formerly 'Magh House' or 'Rockfield', is a house and demesne in the parish of Ballymacelligott, County Kerry, in Ireland. Built in the late 18th century, it is situated between Tralee and Castleisland. Formerly the home of the Hussey family, from 1937 to 1968, the house was used as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. Later becoming known as Edenburn Hospital, from 1968 until its closure in 1988 the building was a convalescent home and hospital, catering mostly for orthopaedic patients and elderly patients.

Firies ( officially Firies; Irish: Na Foidhrí) is a village in County Kerry, Ireland in the barony of Magunihy. It is situated midway between the hub towns of Killarney (14.5 km), Tralee (16 km), Castleisland (16 km) and Killorglin (13 km). It is on the R561 road between Farranfore and Castlemaine. The population at the 2016 census was 558. There are two principal rivers, namely the Maine and its chief tributary, the Brown Flesk.

Lackabaun (Irish: An Leaca Bhán, meaning 'the white hillside') is a townland 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Castleisland in the parish of Castleisland, County Kerry, in the southwest of Ireland. It covers 608 acres (2.46 km2; 0.95 sq mi) acres of hilly upland. There is a national school.

Castleisland (Irish: Oileán Ciarraí) is a town and commercial centre in County Kerry in south west Ireland. The town is known for the width of its main street. As of the 2016 census, Castleisland had a population of 2,486.Castleisland was described by one of its citizens, journalist Con Houlihan, as "not so much a town as a street between two fields".

Castleisland Desmonds are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland. The club won its first County Championship in 1950. They won others in 1981, 1982 and 1984. They won the Munster Club Championship and All-Ireland Club Championship in 1985.

Dooneen (Irish: An Dúinín) is a townland approximately two miles north of Castleisland, County Kerry on the N21 road to Limerick. Dooneen Wood and Castleisland golf course are situated in the area. Journalist Con Houlihan was born in Dooneen.Dooneen is also the name of Dooneen Point, also in County Kerry, and two townlands in County Clare.
