Grand Crossing, Florida is a railway junction located in Florida. The site was so named in 1899 when two railroads crossed the Waycross–Jacksonville line of the Savannah, Florida & Western (Plant System) at almost the same location near Jacksonville, Florida. One was the Atlantic, Valdosta & Western and the other the Jacksonville & Southwestern Railroad. The AV&W extended from Valdosta, Georgia, to a terminal on East Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville. The J&SW was owned by the Cummer Lumber Company, and extended from its mills on the St. Johns River north of the then-city limits of Jacksonville to Newberry, Florida. The J&SW built a spur paralleling the AV&W to a terminal adjacent to its on East Bay Street.

On August 26, 2023, three people were fatally shot by a gunman in a mass shooting that took place at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida. Authorities identified Ryan Christopher Palmeter as the gunman, described as a 21-year-old White male. Palmeter shot and killed himself after he barricaded himself in an office. The incident has been described as a terrorist attack, was racially motivated, and is currently under investigation as a hate crime.

The Murray Hill Theatre is a Christian music venue located in Jacksonville, Florida. It is an independent, 501(c) non-profit charitable organization that is not affiliated with any church or denomination.It first opened as a west side movie theater in 1949 until becoming a Christian music venue in 1995. It is the longest-running live music venue and nightclub in Jacksonville.

WJNJ (1320 AM) is a commercial radio station in Jacksonville, Florida. It is owned by Norsan Media, and airs a Spanish AC radio format. WJNJ broadcasts with 16,000 watts by day using a non-directional antenna. At night, to avoid interfering with other stations on AM 1320, it drops its power to 80 watts and uses a directional antenna. It uses a non-directional antenna at all times. Listeners can also hear WJNJ’s programming on 103.7 MHz via FM translator station W279AG in Atlantic Beach, Florida.

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church was a Roman Catholic parish located in the Lackawanna neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. The church was built in 1915 and closed in 2002. It remained abandoned for a few years, until being renovated to serve as a community center and now an event venue renamed as Riverside North.

Edward Waters University is a private Christian historically Black university in Jacksonville, Florida. It was founded in 1866 by members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) as a school to educate freedmen and their children. It was the first independent institution of higher education and the first historically black college in the State of Florida. It continues to be affiliated with the AME Church and is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.

William Marion Raines Senior High School is a historically black high school in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. The school is located off Moncrief Road in Jacksonville, Florida's northside at the corner Raines Avenue in northwest Jacksonville. Raines serves approximately 1000 students. The school is 97 percent African-American, 1 percent Hispanic, 1 percent Mixed and 1 percent Caucasian. The campus was improved in 1990 & 2002 to include a new science wing, field house and administrative wing. The school was named in honor of William Marion Raines, a prominent black educator in Jacksonville and principal at Matthew Gilbert High School from 1938 until his death in 1950.

Riverside High School is a four-year secondary institution in Jacksonville, Florida. It was originally named after Confederate States of America general Robert E. Lee. Located in the Riverside and Avondale neighborhood, it is the second oldest high school in Jacksonville operating at its original location, after its traditional rival, Andrew Jackson High School. The name was changed to Riverside High School in 2021. Riverside is part of the Duval County magnet school program. Eligible students at the school can earn concurrent credit through the Jacksonville Early College High School program. They receive high school credits from the school and college credit from Florida State College at Jacksonville (F.S.C.J) for the same courses. Riverside students can also specialize in courses through the Engineering Academy or the Math and Science Magnet Program. In addition, there is a Liberal Arts curriculum. The Early College, Engineering, Math and Science, plus Liberal Arts courses of study are known as the school's four learning communities.Riverside is one of 20 high schools in the Duval County Public Schools. Riverside, like all other district schools, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Lime Street fire refers to both a deadly 1990 conflagration at a residence in Jacksonville, Florida, and to the resultant investigation that restaged a similar fire in a nearby building. Six people, including two women (one who was pregnant) and four young children, were trapped inside the house and killed. Gerald Lewis, who escaped the fire with his three-year-old son, was initially charged with arson, manslaughter, and six counts of first-degree murder, the last of which could have garnered a death sentence. After a large-scale recreation was staged in an abandoned house near the original site, it was proven that accelerant was not necessary to create long-believed classic signs of arson such as pour patterns. The charges against Lewis were dropped, and the Lime Street fire has since become a seminal case in contemporary fire investigation. The podcast Criminal produced an episode about the fire and subsequent investigation, "527 Lime Street."

The Lewis Mausoleum is a historic mausoleum in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located in Memorial Cemetery, at the junction of Edgewood Avenue and Moncreif Road. On October 24, 1997, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The mausoleum is the resting place of Abraham Lincoln Lewis (1865-1947), a Florida pioneer and prominent businessman in the African-American community. Lewis was co-founder of Afro-American Life, an early provider of insurance services to African-Americans. He also responded to segregation by opening a country club, a golf course and an oceanfront recreational area that welcomed a non-white clientele. He assisted Booker T. Washington in the creation of the national Negro Business League, and supported historically black colleges. He is interred with his first wife, Mary Sammis Lewis (1865-1923).

The Riverside Baptist Church (RBC) is a historic church in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at 2650 Park Street in the Riverside neighborhood. Designed by architect Addison Mizner and completed in 1926, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1972. On April 18, 2012, the American Institute of Architects's Florida Chapter placed the building on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.
