Bird Island (Massachusetts)

Bird Island Light is a historic lighthouse at the entrance to Sippican Harbor in Marion, Massachusetts. Built in 1819, its tower is a well-preserved example of an early 19th-century masonry lighthouse. The tower and the island on which it stands were added to the National Register of Historic Places as Bird Island Light on September 28, 1987.

Cleveland East Ledge Light is a historic lighthouse in Falmouth, Massachusetts. It sits on a man-made island in shallow water on the eastern of the two halves of Cleveland Ledge, which is said to have been named for President Grover Cleveland because he owned the nearby Gray Gables estate and used to fish in the area. It marks the east side of the beginning of the dredged channel leading to the Cape Cod Canal and is the first fixed mark when going northbound through the canal. As it is an important mark in an area subject to fog, it has a racon showing the letter "C".

The H.R. Reed House is a historic house at 46 Water Street in Marion, Massachusetts. Built in 1886, it is a good example of a Shingle style summer cottage. In 1890 and 1891, it was rented for the summer season by former United States President Grover Cleveland. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Weweantic River is a 17.0-mile-long (27.4 km) river in southeastern Massachusetts. Its name means "crooked" or "wandering stream" in the Wampanoag language. The river arises in wetlands in Carver, meanders generally south through swampy birch and maple forests in Middleborough and Rochester, and drains into a Buzzards Bay estuary in Wareham near the mouth of the Sippican River. Its watershed covers approximately 18,000 acres (73 km2), with many cranberry bogs in its upper reaches. Although the river has historically abounded in fish and shellfish, it currently has no significant herring population due to dam obstruction below Horseshoe Pond, and is closed to shellfish harvesting due to bacterial contamination.

Marion is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The Wing's Neck Light is a historic lighthouse in the Pocasset village of Bourne, Massachusetts. It is located on Wing's Neck Road at the end of Wing's Neck, a peninsula between Pocasset Harbor and the Hog Island Channel, which provides access to the Cape Cod Canal. The first lighthouse was built in the site in 1849; it was a stone keeper's house with a wood-frame tower above, and was destroyed by fire in 1878.The present lighthouse and keeper's house were built in 1889; it is the only extant wood-frame light and keeper's house connected by a covered way from that period.The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Old Rochester Regional High School (often referred to as ORR, ORRHS, or OR) serves the towns of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester. The school was originally built in 1961 and underwent a major renovation beginning in 2001. This project added the auditorium and combined the high school with the adjacent Old Rochester Regional Junior High School. The student population is approximately 700 students. Although the school is named "Old Rochester", it is not located in the current town of Rochester. Instead, it was built in Mattapoisett, with its fields leaking into Marion, Massachusetts. The name Old Rochester refers to the original town of Rochester which included all three towns served by ORRHS. ORRHS is a part of the Old Rochester Regional School District.

WWTA (88.5 FM) was a high school radio station licensed to Marion, Massachusetts, United States. The station served the New Bedford-Fall River area. WWTA was owned by Tabor Academy. Its license expired April 1, 2014 after Tabor Academy did not renew it.

Tabor Academy is an independent preparatory school located in Marion, Massachusetts, United States. Tabor is known for its marine science courses. Tabor's location on Sippican Harbor, Buzzards Bay, has earned it the name of "The School by the Sea". Tabor participates in the Independent School League (ISL) and is a member of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council .

Scraggy Neck is a peninsula in Buzzards Bay south of the Cape Cod Canal, in Cataumet, Massachusetts, USA. It is south of Wings Neck and southeast of Bassetts Island. As with all land in the area, the ancestral people on and around Scraggy Neck were Wampanoag. In 1637, through means that are not entirely clear, Thomas Dexter acquired the land that is now Scraggy Neck from the Wampanoag. Around 1667, he transferred the land to the Town of Sandwich and it became "parsonage property" of the First Church, Sandwich Massachusetts. On 9 February 1847 the "First Parish in Sandwich County of Barnstable" transferred title to Martin Ellis for $1,350.In 1866, Ellis offered the property for sale, advertising in the Yarmouth Register "Scraggy Neck for Sale." The ad copy declared "The estate lying in Pocasset (Sandwich)... consisting of 384 acres, principally woodland, cut off in 1846, but with pasture for cattle and sheep, and unrivalled privileges for shell and other fisheries. There are on the premises a dwelling house for a small family, a good barn, and other out-buildings. Also, a thrifty young orchard of apple, pear and quince trees. Making this a very desirable place for farming, sheep raising, or shore fishing. The present proprietor is obliged to give it up on account of ill health. Price $2,000. For further particulars apply to JOSHUA HANDY, near the premises. MARTIN ELLIS" On 3 March 1870, Joshua Handy, on behalf of Ellis, sold the land for $1,000 to Charles W. Parker and George P. Ellis. They subsequently, on 13 May 1870, sold to Washington Allen for $1,600.On 21 April 1892, through a series of transactions between Allen, Francis H. Learned, and Edith H. Eustis, William Ellery Channing ("W.E.C.") Eustis "bought the entire three-hundred-acre, flounder-shaped peninsula" and began developing property on the neck. The total purchase price of the land seems to have been $50,000.In 1937, Edward C. Johnson II and his wife Elsie L. Johnson bought a house on the neck and began a long family association with the area. The Johnson and Eustis families converted the central 75 acres of the island to a protected forest. Current residents of the neck are members of the Scraggy Neck Recreation Association
