Villars-sur-Glâne (French: [vilaʁ syʁ ɡlɑn]; Arpitan: Velârs-sur-Gllânna [vəˈlɑ ʃy ˈjɑ̃na] (listen)) is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Villars-sur-Glâne railway station (French: Gare de Villars-sur-Glâne, German: Bahnhof Villars-sur-Glâne) is a railway station in the municipality of Villars-sur-Glâne, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Lausanne–Bern line of Swiss Federal Railways.

The Smart Living Lab is an academic research and development center dedicated to contribute to the future of the built environment. Located in Fribourg in the Bluefactory innovation district, it is affiliated with the Switzerland Innovation Park Network West EPFL. This living lab focuses its research activities on human comfort and well-being in indoor spaces, environmental performance of buildings, and the digital transformation of the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.

Cardinal is a Swiss brand of beer and a former brewery founded in 1788 by François Piller, located in Fribourg. The brewery was acquired by Feldschlösschen in 1991, which itself was acquired by the Carlsberg Group in 2000. The brewery in Fribourg was closed in 2011, and today Cardinal is brewed at the Feldschlösschen brewery in Rheinfelden, Aargau.The flagship beer of the Cardinal brand is Cardinal Blonde, a pale lager, which is heavily promoted in the country.

Hauterive (French pronunciation: [otʁiv] (listen); Arpitan: Hôtariva) is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was created from the union in 2001 of the villages of Posieux (French: [pɔzjø]; Arpitan: Posiôls [pɔˈʒy] (listen)) and Ecuvillens (French: [ekyvijɑ̃s]; Arpitan: Ecuvilyens [ekyviˈjɛ̃] (listen)).

The Fribourg State Archives (French Archives de l'État de Fribourg or AEF) is the cantonal archives of the Canton of Fribourg, in Switzerland. It oversees the composition of historical archives concerning the cantonal administration and authorities, ensuring their conservation and facilitating their consultation.The archives conserved by the AEF are registered as a cultural property of national significance in Switzerland.

Located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss Plateau, it is a major economic, administrative and educational centre on the cultural border between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. Its Old City, one of the best-maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine. In 2018, it had a population of 38,365.

Hauterive Abbey (French: Abbaye d’Hauterive) is a Cistercian abbey in the Swiss municipality of Hauterive in the canton of Fribourg. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. The entire Hauterive area is part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.

Agroscope is the Swiss Confederation's center of excellence for agricultural research and is affiliated with the Federal Office for Agriculture, which is subordinate to the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research. Agroscope attempts to contribute to a sustainable agriculture and food sector, and maintain an intact environment. Since 1 January 2017, Agroscope consists of three competence divisions for Research Technology and Knowledge Exchange, as well as seven strategic research divisions and the Resources Unit. Sites are Avenches (Swiss National Stud Farm SNSF), Breitenhof, Cadenazzo, Changins, Conthey, Güttingen (Fruit Growing Pilot Plant), Liebefeld, Posieux, Pully, Reckenholz, Tänikon and Wädenswil. The implementation of the new site strategy has begun: in the future, Agroscope will consist of a central research campus in Posieux (canton of Fribourg), a research centre in Changins (canton of Vaud) and Reckenholz (canton of Zurich), and peripheral experimental stations.

Observatory Robert A. Naef (French: Observatoire Robert-A. Naef) is an astronomical observatory located at Épendes, Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland at 7.13938 degrees east of Greenwich and 46.76236 degrees north latitude. Its parallax constants are : ρ sin φ' = 0.68632 (Earth radii from the rotation axis) and ρ cos φ' = +0.72501 (Earth radii from the equatorial plane). The observatory was named in memory of Robert Adolf Naef (1907–1975). The minor planet 1906 Naef was named in his honour.

The Adolphe Merkle Institute (AMI) is a research center in Fribourg, Switzerland focused on nanoscience. The institute is named after the Swiss entrepreneur Adolphe Merkle who created the foundation that partially funded the institute.
