Ghyvelde (Dutch: Gijvelde, West Flemish: Gyvelde) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is located on the Belgian border, and just inland from the North Sea. It is, after Bray-Dunes, the second most northern commune of France. The E40/A16 passes through the commune. On 1 January 2016, the former commune Les Moëres was merged into Ghyvelde.

De Moeren (Dutch) or Les Moëres (French) are a marshy region in the Westhoek, politically divided between the French-Belgian border. At one time the area was inhabited by the Gallic people known as the Morini; they are believed to have lent their name to the territory. For many centuries, beginning around 800, the marshes were completely submerged due to a slight elevation of the nearby sea; beginning in 1617 the area was drained by Wenceslas Cobergher on the orders of Albert VII, Archduke of Austria and his wife, Isabella. The project was finished in 1627, leaving the marshes around 2.5 meters below sea level. With the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, De Moeren were divided between France and the Habsburg monarchy. Today, two communes share the territory and its name: Les Moëres, Nord, which contains a museum of water pumps De Moeren, Veurne, Belgium

Hondschoote (French pronunciation: [ɔ̃(t)skɔt]; from Dutch; Hondschote in the modern Dutch spelling) is a commune of the Nord département, in northern France.

The Battle of Hondschoote took place during the Flanders Campaign of the Campaign of 1793 in the French Revolutionary Wars. It was fought during operations surrounding the siege of Dunkirk between 6 and 8 September 1793 at Hondschoote, Nord, France, and resulted in a French victory under General Jean Nicolas Houchard and General Jean-Baptiste Jourdan against the command of Marshal Freytag, part of the Anglo-Hanoverian corps of the Duke of York.

Hoymille (French pronunciation: [wamil]; from Flemish; Hooimille in modern Dutch spelling) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is situated adjacent to the east of Bergues. The village hosts an annual carnival at the end February. The local church is St Gérard's.
