Les Moëres, Nord

De Moeren (Dutch) or Les Moëres (French) are a marshy region in the Westhoek, politically divided between the French-Belgian border. At one time the area was inhabited by the Gallic people known as the Morini; they are believed to have lent their name to the territory. For many centuries, beginning around 800, the marshes were completely submerged due to a slight elevation of the nearby sea; beginning in 1617 the area was drained by Wenceslas Cobergher on the orders of Albert VII, Archduke of Austria and his wife, Isabella. The project was finished in 1627, leaving the marshes around 2.5 meters below sea level. With the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, De Moeren were divided between France and the Habsburg monarchy. Today, two communes share the territory and its name: Les Moëres, Nord, which contains a museum of water pumps De Moeren, Veurne, Belgium

Ghyvelde (Dutch: Gijvelde, West Flemish: Gyvelde) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is located on the Belgian border, and just inland from the North Sea. It is, after Bray-Dunes, the second most northern commune of France. The E40/A16 passes through the commune. On 1 January 2016, the former commune Les Moëres was merged into Ghyvelde.

Houtem is a village in the municipality of Veurne in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The village is located near the French border. Until 1977, Houtem was an independent municipality. During World War I, it was home to the Headquarters of the Belgian Army.

Bray-Dunes (French pronunciation: ​[bʁɛ dyn]; West Flemish: Bray-Duunn) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is situated on the Belgian border, with Adinkerke being the closest Belgian town. It is the northernmost commune and the northernmost point in all of France (mainland and overseas territories). Bray-Dunes was the site of many casualties during World War II as a result of the Dunkirk evacuation.

Uxem (French pronunciation: [yksɛm]; from Flemish; Uksem in modern Dutch spelling) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Dunkirk.

Adinkerke (French: Adinkerque) is a village in the municipality of De Panne in western Belgium close to the French border. It forms a conurbation with the coastal town of De Panne, which in turn is part of the west Belgian coastal conurbation. Adinkerke railway station is also the western terminus of the Belgian coast tram line to De Panne; Nieuwpoort, Ostend and beyond. Near the city is Plopsaland, formerly Meli Park. The 'kerke' suffix is common in west Flanders as an area surrounding a church (similar to kirk in Scotland and North East England). The closest French towns are Ghyvelde and Bray-Dunes, which can be accessed via the E40 (A16) motorway, N39 (N1) main road, or N386 (D 60) minor road in addition to a canal. The roads names in brackets employ French nomenclature once crossing the border. There are regular NMBS trains to Brussels. Access by train to Dunkirk is via Gare de Lille Flandres which is in France. The line across the border is out of use. Dk' bus run buses from the station forecourt to Gare de Dunkerque. A campaign group called Trekhaak-73 is seeking to re-open the railway line.

Francis Dominic Casey, (3 August 1890 – 11 August 1917) was an Irish flying ace of the Royal Naval Air Service during the First World War, credited with nine aerial victories. He received the Distinguished Service Cross before his death during a test flight in 1917.

Adinkerke Military Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) burial ground for the dead of the Western Front of the First and Second World War. It is located near Adinkerke in the municipality of De Panne in western Belgium, close to the French border. The cemetery is surrounded by farmland and can only be reached via a 50-metre grassed path which is not suitable for vehicles.

Zuydcoote [zɥitkot] (West Flemish and Dutch: Zuidkote) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.

Plopsaland De Panne is a theme park located in Adinkerke, Belgium - part of the municipality De Panne - owned and operated by Plopsa. The park reopened on 20 April 2000, before that the park was known as Meli Park from 1935 until 1999.

Second Lieutenant Arthur Rex Hurden Noss (22 January 1897 – 15 September 1917) was a British World War I flying ace credited with nine aerial victories. He won a Military Cross as Keith Park's gunner, and was killed in a flying accident shortly thereafter.

Leisele is a small Belgian town in Alveringem near the French border with about 750 inhabitants.
