Howell is the largest city and county seat of Livingston County, Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 10,068. The city is mostly surrounded by Howell Township, but the two are administered autonomously. Howell is part of the South Lyon–Howell–Brighton Urban Area, which is an extension of the larger Detroit–Warren–Dearborn (Metro Detroit) Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The George Louk Farm is a rural farmstead located at 1885 Tooley Road near Howell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Ann Arbor Railway Howell Depot is a railroad depot located at 128 Wetmore Street in Howell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The depot is currently used as the Howell Depot Museum.

The Howell Opera House is an opera house located in Howell, Michigan. The site is listed as historic by The Michigan State Historic Preservation Office. It is also listed on The National Historic Register as part of the Howell Downtown Historic District.

The Livingston County Courthouse is a government building located at 200 East Grand River Avenue in Howell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The John H. and Martha Durfee Galloway House is a single-family home located at 216 Higgins Street in Howell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Howell High School is a coed public secondary school in Howell, Michigan, United States. The school serves grades 9-12 for the Howell Public School District.

Most of Livingston County is served by the Livingston Educational Service Agency, which coordinates the efforts of local boards of education, but has no operating authority over schools. Local school boards in Michigan retain great autonomy over day-to-day operations.

Livingston County ( LIV-ing-stən) is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 193,866. It is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat and most populous city is Howell. The county was platted in 1833, but for three years remained assigned to Shiawassee and Washtenaw counties for revenue, taxation and judicial matters. It was formally organized in 1836. As one of Michigan's "Cabinet counties", a group of ten counties whose names honor members of President Andrew Jackson's Cabinet, it is named after former US Secretary of State Edward Livingston. Livingston County's location in Southeast Michigan offers residents relatively convenient access to the metropolitan centers of Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Flint. Livingston County residents regularly commute to those centers, using the three major expressways which pass through the county: I-96, US 23, and M-59. Although continuing to be composed largely of bedroom communities, the county is experiencing and maintaining significant growth in both the service and industrial economic sectors. Major employers include Tribar, PepsiCo, Citizens Insurance, and ThaiSummit. The Brighton Recreation Area is in the county.

Michigan's 8th congressional district is a United States congressional district in Central Michigan. The district was first created in 1873, after redistricting following the 1870 census. From 2003 to 2013, it consisted of all of Clinton, Ingham, and Livingston counties, and included the southern portion of Shiawassee and the northern portion of Oakland counties. From 2013 to 2023, the district no longer covered Clinton or Shiawassee counties and instead covered more of Oakland County, including Rochester. In 2023, the district was redrawn to be centered on the city of Flint, and includes all of Saginaw and Bay counties, almost all of Genesee County, and portions of Midland and Tuscola counties. The district's current representative is Democrat incumbent Dan Kildee, who defeated Republican Paul Junge in November 2022, and previously represented the old 5th district. According to the Cook Partisan Voting Index, after 2022 redistricting Michigan's 8th is the median district in the country, with 217 districts rated more Democratic and 217 districts rated more Republican.

Howell Township is a civil township of Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,702 at the 2010 census, up from 5,679 at the 2000 census. The township is bordered on the southeast by the city of Howell, but the two are administered autonomously.
