The village is located 6.5 miles (10 km) northwest of Hanford, at an elevation of 249 feet (76 m).Hardwick is in the San Joaquin Valley on Excelsior Avenue between 14th and 15th Avenues. The Kings River runs 1.2 miles (1.9 km) north of the community. Its ZIP Code is 93230 and the community is inside area code 559. The Kings County Fire Department operates a fire station in Hardwick. The community is located in the Kings River-Hardwick School District.

The community is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west-northwest of Hanford, at an elevation of 249 feet (76 m).A post office operated at Grangeville from 1874 to 1920.Grangeville was founded in 1874 by James A. Hackett and Peter Kanawyer. It is the oldest existing community in Kings County. When the Southern Pacific Railroad bypassed Grangeville in 1876, the thriving new community dwindled in size and importance.

The Hanford Joint Union High School District (HJUHSD) serves the northwestern portion of Kings County, California. The schools are located in Hanford, the county seat. HJUHSD in Hanford consists of a total of 3,522 students from Hanford High School, Hanford West High School, Earl F. Johnson Continuation School, and Hanford Adult School. A arts high school, Sierra Pacific High School, opened on August 13, 2009 with 217 freshman. Hanford High School and Hanford West High School each serve approximately 1,700 students. Earl F. Johnson High School serves about 250 students. Hanford Adult School serves a wide variety of students through its many and varied programs. HJUHSD students attend Hanford High School, Hanford West High School or Sierra Pacific High School based on their home address. These attendance areas were created with input from parents and other community members to create neighborhood schools and to balance student population between the schools.

Rancho Laguna de Tache was a Mexican land grant in present day Tulare County, Fresno County and Kings County, California claimed to have been given in 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Joseph Yves Limantour. The grant extended along the (left) south bank of the Kings River and was bounded on the south Cross Creek, on the east by the Sierra Nevada, and on the west by Tulare Lake. The land claim was rejected. This grant is separate from the grant of the same name on the North side of Kings River later given to Manuel Castro.

The Imperial Dynasty restaurant was a gourmet restaurant in Hanford, California. The restaurant was founded in 1883 in Hanford's Chinatown, and was run by the same family for four generations, having started as a simple noodle house in the 19th century.Richard Wing combined French and Chinese cooking in the 1960s to create one of the first fusion cuisines. The restaurant closed in early 2006 due to the declining health of the owner, who died in 2010 at the age of 89.

Hanford station is a train station in Hanford, California served by Amtrak. The station also services the larger city of Visalia, California, 20 miles (32 km) to the east.

The Kings County Courthouse was erected after Kings County, California was formed; it opened in 1896. Constructed in an eclectic mix of styles in a park in the center of Hanford, it was expanded in 1914. The building served as the county's courthouse until 1976 when it was replaced by the new Kings County Government Center on West Lacey Boulevard. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The old courthouse was remodeled in the early 1980s and now houses offices, small shops and restaurants.
