Maroilles Abbey

Maroilles (French pronunciation: [maʁwal] ; Picard: Marolles, [maʁɔl]; older Dutch: Marolle, [mɑˈrɔlə]) is a commune in the Nord department, northern France.

The Helpe Mineure (French pronunciation: [ɛlp minœʁ], literally Helpe Minor or Little Helpe) is a river in France, which flows thorough the regions of Hauts-de-France. It arises in the municipality of Ohain at the confluence of two source streams. The river drains and flows in a generally north-westerly direction for about 50 kilometres (31 mi) it flows into its confluence as a southern tributary of the Sambre north-west of Maroilles.

Helpe Majeure (French pronunciation: [ɛlp maʒœʁ]) is a river that runs through the Nord department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. It rises in the municipality of Ohain, with about a third of its watershed in Belgium, near the town of Momignies. The river initially marks the Franco-Belgian border as it flows north. Then it turns west and flows for 69 kilometres (43 mi) to its confluence north of Noyelles-sur-Sambre, as a southern tributary of the Sambre.

The Arboretum de l'Étang David (10 hectares), also known as the Arboretum de Preux au Bois and the Arboretum de la Forêt de Mormal, is an arboretum located in the Forêt Domaniale de Mormal on the Route forestière du Pont-Routier southwest of Locquignol, Nord, Hauts-de-France, France. It was established in 1968 and currently contains about 60 species of trees.

The Forêt de Mormal (Forest of Mormal) is a forest in France, near the Franco-Belgian border. It is best known to the British for its role in the retreat from Mons in August 1914. Its perceived lack of passable roads forced I and II Corps of the British army to divide and the two corps did not reunite for some days. However, some units of the British army did pass through the forest. The German army also passed through the forest, taking Haig's II Corps by surprise. It is the largest forest in the Nord area, at around 9000 hectares.

French Hainaut (French: Hainaut français [ɛno fʁɑ̃sɛ]) is one of two areas in France that form the département du Nord, making up its eastern part. It corresponds roughly with the Arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe (east), the Arrondissement of Cambrai (south-west) and the Arrondissement of Valenciennes (north-west).Until the 17th century, it was an integral part of the County of Hainaut, ruled by the House of Valois-Burgundy and later by the House of Habsburg. In a series of wars between France and Spain, this southern part of Hainaut was conquered by France, together with the adjacent Cambrésis, or Bishopric of Cambrai, to its south-west, and southern Flanders, which borders the English Channel, to its west. Together, these formed the French province of Flanders which, following the French Revolution, became the new Nord département.
