Waldringfield

Newbourne is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. It lies on the peninsula between the River Orwell and the River Deben, to the east of Ipswich and south of Woodbridge.

Newbourne Springs is a 15.7-hectare (39-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Newbourne in Suffolk. It is owned by Anglian Water and managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.Most of this site is a narrow valley with a fast-flowing stream with alder carr and fen. Drier and more acidic soils have grassland, woodland, scrub and bracken heath. The site is actively managed, producing diverse flora and many breeding and migratory birds such as treecreepers, nuthatches and sedge warblers.There is access from Woodbridge Road, which goes through the site.

Hemley is a village and a civil parish in the East Suffolk district, in the English county of Suffolk. It is located near the River Deben. Nearby settlements include the large town of Ipswich and the villages of Waldringfield and Newbourne. In 2001 the population of the civil parish of Hemley was 66. At the 2011 Census the population of the village remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Newbourne All Saints' parish church dates from the 14th century and is a Grade II* listed building.

Waldringfield Pit is a 0.8-hectare (2.0-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Martlesham Heath and Waldringfield in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site exposes a sequence of Pleistocene deposits, with the early Red Crag overlain by Waldringfield Gravels, the lowest unit of the Kesgrave Sands and Gravels, which were deposits on the bed of the River Thames before it was diverted south by the Anglian Glaciation around 450,000 years ago. Waldringfield Pit is the type site for the Waldringfield Gravels.The site is private land with no public access.

Deben Estuary is a 981.1-hectare (2,424-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) covering the River Deben and its banks 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) from its mouth north of Felixstowe to Woodbridge in Suffolk. It is a Ramsar internationally important wetland site and a Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds. It is also in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It partly overlaps two geological SSSIs, Ferry Cliff, Sutton and Ramsholt Cliff.The site has been designated an SSSI for its overwintering waders and wildfowl, and for its diverse saltmarshes. It has internationally important overwintering redshanks and nationally important numbers of dark-bellied brent geese, shelducks and black-tailed godwits. The estuary also has three nationally rare plants and a nationally rare mollusc.

Ramsholt Cliff is a 2.1-hectare (5.2-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Ramsholt in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and it is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This site is very important historically because it was the basis for the distinction of the Pliocene Coralline Crag Formation as a new stratigraphical division by the nineteenth-century geologist, Edward Charlesworth. The well preserved fossils include several unusual species.Most of this steeply sloping site on the bank of the River Deben is inaccessible, but a footpath runs along the top and a track leads to a small area of bank.

Bucklesham Mill River – sometimes referred to simply as Mill River – is a tributary of the River Deben in Suffolk, England. It is 11.3 km (7.0 mi) long and with the Newbourne Stream which flows into it at Newbourne it constitutes the Bucklesham Mill River Water Body with a catchment area of 46.298 km2 (17.876 sq mi). The river gets its name from the Bucklesham watermill, located on Watermill Road where it crosses the river leading to Newbourne. The river rises at a number of locations on the outskirts of Ipswich and after flowing through diverse varieties of landscape it reaches the River Deben at Kirton Creek: The river acts as a natural wildlife corridor linking several County Wildlife Sites: The Mount Brightwell Gazing Meadows Valley Farm Meadow

Martlesham Wilds is a nature reserve of Suffolk Wildlife Trust, a rewilding site on the banks of the River Deben near Martlesham in Suffolk, England. It is designated a Ramsar site, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Rockhall Wood Pit, Sutton is a 5.3-hectare (13-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Shottisham in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site both for its quaternary and neogene deposits.This site has excellent exposures of the Pliocene Coralline Crag Formation, with a vertical sequence of diagenetic changes and rich fossil fauna. It is described by Natural England as probably the most important Pliocene site in Britain.This site is private land, but part has been converted by Geo Suffolk into a 'Pliocene Forest', with trees similar to ones which would have grown in Suffolk four million years ago.

The River Fynn is a waterway in Suffolk which joins the River Deben. Its source is at Witnesham and it joins the Deben at Woodbridge.

Ferry Cliff, Sutton is a 2.8-hectare (6.9-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and it is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This site exposes rocks dating to the Paleocene, around 60 million years ago. It has the oldest British fossils of rodents, and ungulates, both even and odd toed. It also has early hyracotheriums.A public footpath runs through this very steep site.

Woodbridge Tide Mill in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England is a rare example of a tide mill whose water wheel still turns and is capable of grinding a wholemeal flour. The mill is a Grade I listed building. It is a three-storey building constructed from wood; externally it is clad in white Suffolk boarding and has a Gambrel roof. Its machinery reflects the skills and achievements of the early Industrial Revolution. It has been preserved and is open to the public. The reservoir constructed for demonstration purposes is roughly half an acre in extent, the original 7-acre (28,000 m2) one is now a marina.
