Grays Harbor Biodiesel Plant is the second largest biodiesel production facility in the United States, with an annual capacity of 100 million US gallons (380,000 m3) per year. The facility is sited on a 12-acre (49,000 m2) parcel of land at the Port of Grays Harbor, Washington.The site includes eight main tanks, which can hold 2,000,000 US gallons (7,600 m3) each, and two reserves that can each hold 500,000 US gallons (1,900 m3). The facility is "feedstock agnostic," meaning it can create biodiesel from numerous different feedstocks, even simultaneously. The majority of their oil comes from canola oil and soybean oil grown in Canada and Washington.In 2006, the National Biodiesel Board estimates that more than 250,000,000 US gallons (950,000 m3) of biodiesel were consumed in the U.S., up from 75,000,000 in 2005.Like other biodiesel production facilities around the country, the Imperium plant has been hit hard by the economic downturn and the drastic changes in the cost of petroleum fuels and biodiesel feedstocks. In early 2008 Imperium cut staff from the high of 107; again in March 2009 a further reduction brought the staff to 24. [1] Archived 2009-03-14 at the Wayback Machine. In 2015, the plant was acquired by Renewable Energy Group, at which point the plant had 39 employees. Later that year, Renewable Energy Group added a new decanter and increased its production to 72.3 million US gallons (274,000 m3) in 2016.

Olympic Stadium is a stadium in Hoquiam, Washington which opened in 1938. The City of Hoquiam first got the idea for an all-wood stadium in the early 1930s when it applied for a Civil Works Administration grant. In 1932, the grant was approved. Construction began in early 1938, with the stadium officially opening to the public on November 24, 1938. A renovation grant was awarded through the "Save America's Treasures" program requested by Congressional Representative Norm Dicks in 2005. Dicks also backed the State Historic Preservation Office request to add the stadium to the National Register of Historic Places which was granted in 2006. The physical structure of Olympic Stadium is an old-growth fir heavy-timber frame with cedar shingles siding. Built in a truncated U-shape with angled corners, the open portion of the 2+1⁄2-story grandstand faces east. This orientation was used so that fans and players would be somewhat sheltered from the wind and rain coming off the Pacific Ocean. The all-wooden park appears to be one of the more unusual in the country, with the shingled exterior, the completely covered L-shaped grandstand extending all the way down the line in right and extending into the outfield. The seats are wooden grandstands, which overlook the fields which are in excellent shape.In 2015 the Grays Harbor Gulls of the newly minted Mount Rainier Professional Baseball League opened for business. Prior to that the stadium last hosted professional baseball in the late 1990s when the Grays Harbor Gulls of the independent Western Baseball League called this park home and is now the home of the Grays Harbor Bearcats, a semi-pro football team. With an overflow capacity of 10,000, the stadium hosts baseball and football fields and receives plenty of use from teams such as the Bearcats football team, Hoquiam High School football team, Hoquiam Youth Baseball and Youth Football, the Comcast Outdoor Cinema, the Push Rods event, the Bluegrass festival and Logger's Playday events yearly.

Rennie Island is an island in Grays Harbor, in the U.S. state of Washington. The island has been used as a treatment pond for sulfite effluent waste from local paper mills, and disposal site for dredging spoils. It was 225 acres (91 ha) in extent in the 1970s. The extreme western tip of Rennie Island is a sandy spit, a result of dredging dumps. Today this spit has grown a modest amount of vegetation, and is occasionally visited by boaters and hunters. Some locals know the spit as "Stanley Island." The spit is used as a landing for duck hunters coming ashore on the island, and its not uncommon that these hunters will build small campsites here. However, due to the very low elevation of Stanley Island, tides often wash over the entirety of the spit.

The Port of Grays Harbor is a port authority in Grays Harbor County, in the U.S. state of Washington. The Port owns waterfront facilities in Aberdeen and Hoquiam; Bowerman Airport near Hoquiam, the only jet-capable airport on the Washington coast; and the grounds of the former Satsop Nuclear Power Plant in Satsop, which it bought in 2013 to turn into a business park. The port was established in 1911, in what was then Chehalis County. The deep-draft pier and terminal opened in September 1922 and by 1924, more than one billion board feet of lumber had been shipped. By the 2010s other industries had become more prominent, including imported and exported automobiles transported via roll-on/roll-off ships and a rental car reconditioning facility for cars destined to auction. It is the West Coast's largest automobile export port and the United States' closest deepwater port to Asia. At the time of its construction it was the only deepwater port on the Pacific north of San Francisco, and it remains Washington's only Pacific Coast (vice Puget Sound) deepwater port. The port is served directly by Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad, which connects to the BNSF Railway network, and by U.S. Route 101; and is 45–50 miles (72–80 km) from Interstate 5 via U.S. Route 12 and State Route 8.

Newskah Creek is a stream located in Grays Harbor County, Washington. The creek flows south for approximately 9.5 miles (15.4 km) from the hills above Grays Harbor and empties into the Grays Harbor estuary 2 miles west of the community of South Aberdeen. The land within the Newskah Creek watershed is primarily used for commercial forestry. The creek has one named tributary, Falls Creek, which flows into the main stem approximately 3/4 of the distance upstream from the mouth. The origin of the name Newskah is obscure.

The Chehalis River ( shə-HAY-lis) is a river in Washington in the United States. It originates in several forks in southwestern Washington, flows east, then north, then west, in a large curve, before emptying into Grays Harbor, an estuary of the Pacific Ocean. The river is the largest solely contained drainage basin in the state. It was once much larger during the Ice Age when the tongue of the glacial ice sheet covering the Puget Sound terminated near Olympia and glacial runoff formed a large torrent of meltwater. This carved a large oversized valley that is much larger than the current river could have produced. The river's mouth was out near current Westport until rising sea levels at the end of the ice age flooded the broad Chehalis Valley to form a ria, known today as Grays Harbor.

The Hoquiam River is a stream in the U.S. state of Washington. It has three main tributaries, the East Fork, West Fork, and Middle Fork Hoquiam Rivers. The main stem Hoquiam River is formed by the confluence of the West and East Forks. The Middle Fork is a tributary of the West Fork.Most of the river's watershed lies within the Weyerhaeuser Twin Harbors Tree Farm. The City of Hoquiam owns 7,500 acres (30 km2) of the watershed, including reservoirs on Davis Creek and the West Fork Hoquiam River. This reserve system serves as the source to meet Hoquiam's municipal water needs.Along with neighboring watersheds, the Hoquiam River flows through one of the most biomass-productive zones in the world and an important forestry region. Most of the original and second-growth forests have been cut. Douglas-fir plantations have been established through the area.Its name comes from a Native American word meaning "hungry for wood", so named from the great amount of driftwood at the mouth of the river.

The 7th Street Theatre is a theatre in downtown Hoquiam, Washington. It is one of the few remaining examples of an atmospheric theatre in the United States. The not-for-profit 7th Street Theatre Association runs the theatre and coordinates a series of live shows, second-run feature films. The group aims to restore the Theatre as close to original as possible. The theatre was built in 1928 by Olaf T. Taylor, and was designed by Edwin St. John Griffith as a Spanish atmospheric theatre. There are murals on the ceiling in the lobby, along with a fountain. The fountain is not currently in use. Additionally, the auditorium features twinkling lights in the ceiling, and a recently installed sound system. The rigging was replaced in 2008. The seats were restored by McNeil Island Correctional Institute. The ceiling was repaired in 2009. As of 2018, the current board is raising funds to repair the back wall. On March 20, 2008, volunteer staff unloaded a truck delivering the Theatre's original organ. By 1944 theatre organs had fallen out of fashion, and the organ was sold to Parkland's Trinity Lutheran Church by Balcom & Vaughan. Records indicate that three additional ranks were added at this time bringing the instrument up to a 2/7 (minus the toy counter and percussions). In 1960, the instrument was purchased by George Martin of Tacoma. Mr. Martin studied organ with Martha Green and Arnold Leverenz in the Seattle/Tacoma area between 1951 and 1953. He eventually moved the organ to his home in Clute, TX. It was purchased by a donation primarily from Tom Quigg and Pat Oleachea, and moved by truck back to the 7th Street Theatre. Estimates put the organ installation as complete as early as 2012, at a cost of approximately $12,000. The 7th Street was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The 7th Street Theatre was the first building in Hoquiam on the city's historic register in 2008.

The Carnegie Library is a historic building still in use as the Hoquiam Timberland Library in Hoquiam, Washington.

Hoquiam ( HOH-kwee-əm) is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. It borders the city of Aberdeen at Myrtle Street, with Hoquiam to the west. The two cities share a common economic history in lumbering and exporting, but Hoquiam has maintained its independent identity. It shares a long rivalry with its more populated neighbor, especially in high school sports. Hoquiam (Ho'-kwee-um, or Ho-kwim, to natives) was incorporated on May 21, 1890. Its name comes from a Native-American word meaning "hungry for wood", from the great amount of driftwood at the mouth of the Hoquiam River. The population was 8,776 at the 2020 census.

Hotel Morck is a historic hotel building in Aberdeen, Washington. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Kurt Cobain stayed at the hotel when he was 17 and his song "Come as You Are" may have been inspired by its motto. It is at Heron Street and South K Street. Plans to redevelop the hotel building were discussed in 2019. It was designed by Abraham H. Albertson and built in 1924. It was listed on the National Register in 2016.
