Union Street (Boston)

Union Oyster House, open to diners since 1826, is amongst the oldest operating restaurants in the United States of America, and the oldest known that has been continuously operating since being opened. The building was listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 27, 2003.

Marshall Street is located in the Blackstone Block Historic District of Boston, Massachusetts. Named for Thomas Marshall, one of the city's settlers, it was first recorded (as Marshall's Lane) in 1652, 27 years after the city was settled. The Freedom Trail runs along the street, which is around 200 feet (61 m) long, running from Hanover Street in the north to Union Street in the south, near their intersection. In 1652, Marshall, who owned a home and garden on Hanover Street, offered to the city a thoroughfare across his land "to shorten the distance to the drawbridge, which stood where Blackstone Street now crosses Hanover Street," wrote Edward Griffin Porter in 1887. Points of interest on the street (all on its eastern side) include one of the oldest brick buildings in the city, the Ebenezer Hancock House, as well as the Boston Stone, the Green Dragon Tavern and part of Union Oyster House. Marshall House formerly stood on the street (not to be confused with an early business in the Ebenezer Hancock House). The building containing the Bell in Hand Tavern occupies the western side of the street.

The Ebenezer Hancock House is a building at 10 Marshall Street in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Located in the city's Blackstone Block Historic District, at the corner of Marshall Street and Creek Lane, the building was erected in 1767 as a home for John Hancock.

The Blackstone Block Historic District encompasses what was once a waterfront business area in Boston, Massachusetts. Due to the infill of land it is now slightly inland from the waterfront. The district is bounded by Union, Hanover, Blackstone, and North Streets, not far from Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. It includes the Union Oyster House, a National Historic Landmark building erected in the 1710s, and a collection of commercial buildings dating from the late 18th and 19th centuries. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It also includes the c. 1770s Ebenezer Hancock House (10 Marshall Street), a Federal-style wood-frame house that is the only building left in the city which was known to be owned by John Hancock. The building was designated a Boston Landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 1978 for its notable exterior and interiors. In 1983, the surrounding ca. 1676 Blackstone Block Street Network was also designated by the Boston Landmarks Commission.

Bell in Hand Tavern is a bar located in Boston. It is one of the oldest bars in the United States of America.

The New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston, Massachusetts, is dedicated to the Jewish people who were murdered by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust.

The Green Dragon Tavern was a public house located on Union Street (then known as Green Dragon Lane) in Boston's North End. A popular meeting place for both the Freemasons and the Sons of Liberty, it was demolished in 1832.

The Boston Stone is a stone in Boston, Massachusetts. Near —but not on— the Freedom Trail, it is a minor tourist attraction. The stone, a flattened sphere about 2 feet (0.61 m) in diameter, hollowed out on one side, is embedded in the foundation of a building on Marshall Street (a narrow alley named for Thomas Marshall, captain of a ferry to Charlestown in the late 17th century) in the Blackstone Block Historic District. Below the stone is a plinth inscribed "Boston Stone 1737". There is no plaque and no further elucidation, and the Boston Stone has no official status.

Haymarket in Boston is an open-air market on Blackstone, Hanover, and North Streets, next to the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway between the North End and Government Center. The market is operated by the Haymarket Pushcart Association. The association traces its history to 1820, and formally organized in 1974 to negotiate with the city on issues such as waste removal and traffic. The roughly 50: 42  Haymarket vendors sell fruit, vegetables, and seafood at very low prices.: 26  The market offers "produce its vendors obtain from wholesale distribution terminals north of Boston,": 6  primarily the New England Produce Center in Chelsea.: 34  Prices are low because the wholesale markets need to make room for new shipments arriving over the weekend.: 45 The market is open from 6AM to 7PM every Friday and Saturday.: 32  On Saturday nights nearing the 7 pm closing deadline, vendors often liquidate any remaining inventory selling whatever they have left for pennies on the dollar. The market's location and days of operation were established by a 1952 state law and by a 1978 city ordinance. Vendors are licensed: 41  by the City of Boston Inspectional Services Department.The market is adjacent to the Haymarket MBTA station, which is served by two subway lines and many bus routes. Inexpensive validated parking for Haymarket shoppers is available at the Parcel 7 Garage. The discount was created as a "mitigation" measure for the impact of the Big Dig highway project on Haymarket.: 9 A study conducted for the Boston Redevelopment Authority in 2009 by the Project for Public Spaces found that "Haymarket attracts one of the most diverse populations of any market we have worked on. ... Customers include almost every imaginable ethnic group and income level. Haymarket is the primary place where most of its shoppers buy produce and it serves a vital role in the Boston food distribution system.": 21  In 2015, two Johns Hopkins University graduate students proposed the creation in Baltimore of a market modeled after Haymarket, to address the problems of food going to waste and the lack of access to fresh produce in low-income communities.

Two statues of James Michael Curley (sometimes called James Michael Curley, Jr.) are installed at the intersection of Congress and North streets, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The bronze double portrait was created by Lloyd Lillie during 1979–1980, and dedicated on September 18, 1980. The standing figure measures approximately 77 x 30 x 80 in., and the seated statue measures approximately 55 x 38 x 43 in. The memorial was surveyed by the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in 1993.

A 10-foot (3.0 m) bronze statue of Kevin White by Pablo Eduardo is installed in Boston's Faneuil Hall, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The sculpture was installed in 2006.

Dock Square in downtown Boston, Massachusetts is a public square adjacent to Faneuil Hall, bounded by Congress Street, North Street, and the steps of the 60 State Street office tower. Its name derives from its original (17th-century) location at the waterfront. From the 1630s through the early 19th century, it served boats in the Boston Harbor as "the common landing place, at Bendell's Cove," later called Town Dock. "Around the dock was transacted the chief mercantile business of the town." After the waterfront was filled in during the early 19th century, Dock Square continued as a center of commerce for some years. The addition in the 1960s of Government Center changed the scale and character of the square from a hub of city life, to a place one merely passes through. As of the 1950s the square has become largely a tourist spot, with the Freedom Trail running through it.
