Helsfyr (station)

Helsfyr (pronunciation ) is a residential and industrial neighborhood in Oslo. It is located in Oslo's East End, in the administrative borough of Gamle Oslo. The neighborhood is named after Helsfyr gård, which name is possibly originating from Low Saxon helschvûr, "Hell-Fire". Helsfyr was sparsely populated until the 1950s, and was further developed in the 1980s.Helsfyr station on the Oslo Metro first opened in 1966. A combined metro/bus terminal opened in 1993, making Helsfyr an important public transportation interchange in Oslo's East End.

Helsfyr-Sinsen was a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway up to January 1, 2004, when it was split and merged into Alna and Gamle Oslo boroughs. It consisted of the neighborhoods Helsfyr, Teisen, Etterstad, Keyserløkka, Lille Tøyen, Valle, Løren, Carl Berners plass, Rosenhoff and Sinsen.

Etterstad (pronunciation ) is a neighborhood in Oslo, located between the river Alna and Strømsveien, north of Vålerenga. It was incorporated into Oslo in 1946, two years before the merger of Oslo and Aker. The area is mainly residential.

Valle Hovin is both a bandy and speed skating rink in cold weather, and an outdoor stadium for concerts in warm weather, in Oslo, Norway. Located in the residential area Valle-Hovin, in amongst trees and a park, one finds Valle Hovin. It is reachable from the Lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 reaching the Helsfyr station of the Oslo T-bane metro system, and additionally via two bus lines as well as substantial parking for automobiles. As a concert venue Valle Hovin can hold at least 40,000 people, many of whom stand on the concrete floor where the rink is laid in winter. Many internationally famous popular music acts have appeared there, the first one being Tina Turner on 20 June 1987. Prior to a June 1995 expansion, the concert capacity was 30,000. As a concert venue it is not always thought of as best, due to lack of seating and limited sightlines once well back in the crowd, but it offers larger capacity than the indoor Oslo Spektrum and is sometimes deemed preferable to Ullevaal Stadion due to having a concrete floor that cannot be damaged by stage and moving equipment as can that football ground's more delicate turf. It was the main arena for the Bandy World Championship 1985.

Valle-Hovin is a neighborhood in Oslo, Norway, best known for the sports and music venue of the same name. It consists of two neighborhoods with unclear boundaries, Valle and Hovin. Valle was a farm under Nonneseter but was bought by private owners in 1765; the farm Hovin was probably under Torshov, then under Oslo Cathedral before the Reformation. It was bought by private owners in 1664. The farms Valle and Hovin were both bought by Oslo Municipality in 1915. The municipality planned to use the area for an airfield in the 1930s, but in the 1960s, it was decided that a sports complex Valle Hovin would be created. It is also used for larger musical shows. In 2001, the indoor arena, mostly used for soccer, Vallhall Arena was opened. In 2017, in Vålerengas, a new stadium, Intility Arena was opened.The area was also built up during the 1950s, mostly with apartment blocks. The area is served by Helsfyr station on the Oslo Metro.

Kværner Station (Norwegian: Kværner stasjon) is a former railway station on the Gjøvik Line, located at Kværner in Oslo, Norway.On Kvaerner station was a small station building, which was sold to the Urskog–Høland Line, and in 1973 relocated to Bingsfoss station.

Intility Arena, also referred to as Vålerenga Stadion, is an association football stadium in Oslo, Norway. The stadium is the home stadium for the Vålerenga Fotball, currently playing in the Eliteserien, and it has a seating capacity of 16,555 people.The stadium plans were accepted by the city council of Oslo in 2014 and by EEA in June 2015. Construction started in August 2015, and the stadium opened in September 2017. The stadium was initially called Vålerenga kultur- og idrettspark.

The Loenga–Alnabru Line (Norwegian: Loenga–Alnabrulinjen) is a 7.3-kilometer (4.5 mi) freight-only railway line in Oslo, Norway. It runs from the classification yard at Loenga(Norway) to Alnabru Freight Terminal, typically serving twenty trains per day. It allows trains to pass from the Østfold Line to Alnabru without passing via Oslo Central Station. It is also used by freight trains from the Sørlandet Line, which run via the Oslo Tunnel and cross over at Bryn Station. It is notorious for the steep hill Brynsbakken which it has to climb, giving it a gradient of 2.6 percent. The line was opened from Bryn to Alnabru Station in 1904, with completion to Loenga on 1 May 1907. The line was electrified in 1928. A new classification yard opened at Alnabru in 1970. The line was the site of the Sjursøya Accident in 2010. In order to bypass Brynsbakken, the Norwegian National Rail Administration has proposed building a tunnel from further south on the Østfold Line, named the Bryn Diagonal.

Vallhall Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena, located in Valle-Hovin, Oslo, Norway. The stadium has a capacity of 5,500 people, during matches. The Tippeligaen club Vålerenga uses the arena for training and friendly matches in the winter off-season. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The arena also serves as an event arena. The arena is also a well-known concert hall, with a capacity of 12,500 people. It's not far away from Valle Hovin, an outdoor concert arena. On 22 April 2001, Irish vocal pop band Westlife held a concert for their Where Dreams Come True Tour supporting their album Coast to Coast.

The Romerike Tunnel (Norwegian: Romeriksporten) is a 14.580-kilometre (9.060 mi) railway tunnel in Norway between Oslo and Lillestrøm. It is the second longest railway tunnel in Norway after the Blix Tunnel opened in 2022, and forms the first section of the Gardermoen Line. It is double track and electrified, permitting speeds of 210 kilometres per hour (130 mph). Construction started in 1994, with plans to open with the rest of the Gardermoen Line and Oslo Airport, Gardermoen on 8 October 1998. Due to serious leakage from Lutvann and several other lakes, it did not open until 22 August 1999. The leaks increased the cost of the tunnel from 0.5 billion kr to NOK 1.8 billion. The main contractor was Scandinavian Rock Group. The tunnel was originally owned by NSB Gardermobanen, then the Norwegian National Rail Administration, and now owned by Bane NOR. The tunnel allows long-distance, regional and Flytoget Airport Express Trains to bypass the old Hoved Line, reducing journey times between Oslo and Lillestrøm from 29 to 12 minutes.

Brynseng is a rapid transit station on the Oslo Metro system located in the Helsfyr borough. The station is shared by three lines, the Østensjø Line (Line 3), the Furuset Line (Line 2) and the Lambertseter Line (Line 1 and 4). The station has four platforms. The two northernmost platforms are for trains on the Østensjø- and Furuset Line. The Lambertseter Line uses the two other platforms before turning south and leaving the other two lines. At Brynseng Station is one of the train yards for the metro operator Oslo T-banedrift.

The Alna River (Norwegian: Alnaelva) is a river that runs through Oslo, Norway, from Alnsjøen to the Oslo Fjord at Bjørvika. It also drains Breisjøen, Steinbruvann, Tokerudbekken, and Østensjøvannet. It runs through the boroughs of Gamle Oslo, Nordstrand, Helsfyr, Østensjø, Alna, and Grorud. Large sections of the river run in culverts and the river is highly polluted, partially because it is used as a sewer drain. The Municipality of Oslo is creating linked walking trails and green spaces along the length of the Alna.
